Download or read book Behind the Overseas School Administrator s Desk written by Dr. Lance Starr and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overview By Dr. Lance Starr This novel, though a work of fiction, includes many reality based anecdotes about what happens behind the scenes in an overseas administrators office. Many actual interactions are included with the people, the city, the school and even the country name changed. The various travel vacation sections are accurate to the time the trips happened. The in-school anecdotes that at first might seem most far- fetched, are based on or closely related to actual happenings in these schools. Tips or advice about choosing contracts in certain countries are accurate, as of the beginning of the 21st Century. Take “the pressure cooker” to your office with you, you’ll be glad you did. In cross cultural positions, this could provide support. To help you judge the real from fantasy, don’t forget the high standards of behavior that are expected of school Directors stateside and around the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So You Want To Be a Principal relates many of the experiences Mr. Bowen encountered while working in public and international schools. It suggests that many of the circumstances are difficult and unusual, necessitating the development of a skill set that is not available prior to ones appointment as an administrator and which must therefore be learned. Death, crime, alcohol and drug abuse, parental confrontation, cultural differences, terrorism, and school board politics are some of the areas which he describes in vivid detail.

Download or read book International Handbook of Educational Leadership and Administration written by Kenneth A. Leithwood and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: EDITORS This introduction to the International Handbook of Educational Lead ership and Administration describes some of the motivation for devel oping the book and several assumptions on which is based much of the work represented in its 31 chapters. A synopsis of the contents of those chapters is also provided. SOME KEY ASSUMPTIONS It is sometimes suggested that the search for an adequate understanding of leadership is doomed to fail. After all, there is little evidence of agreement about the concept in spite of prodigious efforts dating back hundreds if not thousands of years. Such a view is captured, for exam ple, in Bennis' observation that: Of all the hazy and confounding areas in social psychology, leadership theory undoubtedly contends for top nomination. Probably more has been written and less is known about lead ership than any other topic in the behavioural sciences. (1959, page 259) We do not find this state of affairs discouraging (nor entirely accurate) and, of course, it did not prevent Bennis from proceeding either. One reason for our desire to continue in the face of such discouraging words is that a great deal of leadership research aspires to develop a general theory, a theory which applies to all or most domains of organized human activity. This aspiration inevitably produces decontextualized and, therefore, abstract categories of practice. Howard Gardner's (1995) depiction of leadership as story telling is a case in point.
Download or read book BIA and DOD schools student achievement and other characteristics often differ from public schools written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal government has direct responsibility for two school systems serving elementary and secondary students the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) school systems. Unlike public schools, where federal funding constitutes a small portion of total resources, the BIA and DOD school systems depend almost entirely on federal funds. Although the two school systems have this feature in common, their histories and settings are quite different. Because these school systems are a federal responsibility, the Congress is interested in ensuring that children attending BIA and DOD schools are receiving a quality education.

Download or read book Second International Handbook of Educational Leadership and Administration written by Kenneth A. Leithwood and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first International Handbook of Educational Leadership and Administration (Leithwood et al.) was published in 1996 and quickly became something of a best seller for reference works within education. Such success, we suggest, was at least partly due to the unprecedented global waves of concern for improving schools launched in the mid 1980's, combined with a widespread belief in leadership as the single most powerful contribution to such improvement. The roots of this belief can be found in evidence produced by the early "effective schools" research, although there is a "romance" with leadership! as an explanation for success in many non-school enterprises, as well. During the two-year period during which this current handbook was being written, activity in the realms of school leadership, school improvement, and leadership development gained further momentum. The English government created its new National College of School Leadership, and several Asian nations announced new initiatives in leadership selection, preparation, and development.

Download or read book International and Comparative Public Administration Education written by William Hatcher and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the issue of international and comparative public administration and its role in the (Master of Public Administration) MPA program. The contents provide guidance for readers on how to effectively incorporate the perspectives into the classroom. Public administration is becoming an increasingly global field. Not only are scholars working across borders, but public service organizations that MPA graduates are extended to leave are increasingly required to work across multiple countries and cultures. A growing demographic within all MPA programs in the United States is that of international student, many of whom intend to return to their countries and become public servants after graduation. Historically, however, MPA programs have taken a national perspective to their curriculum, predominately focusing on administration within their own country. The national perspective has led to challenges for students as they begin their careers, particularly for students interested in working for the federal government, international nonprofits, and governments outside of the home countries. An international perspective increases cultural competency in our organizations and overall appreciation of diversity. This edited volume will be of great interest to upper-level students, academics, and researchers in public administration, public policy and education. The chapters in this book were originally published in Journal of Public Affairs Education.
