Download or read book Iron Cross Iron Curtain Iron Will written by Christopher J. Falvai and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iron Cross, Iron Curtain, Iron Will is a biographical novel that tells the story of Miklos, born in the village of Csekut, Hungary, at the outbreak of World War II. The tale chronicles his family's struggles to survive the German occupation and the rise of Hungarian Fascism through the Arrow Cross Party, the ensuing anti-Semitism, and their eventual isolation behind the Iron Curtain. Not long before Miklos' home becomes occupied by German officers, Jewish friends and their families arrive, seeking refuge from the sweeps taking place in Budapest. With military patrols arriving in the village soon after, the families are smuggled out to avoid discovery. The village must adapt to war and occupation, struggling through the hardship brought by conflict. Eventually the German army must retreat, driven out by the Soviet military. The would-be liberators remain to occupy Eastern Europe, bringing the peoples of the region under hard-line Communist rule. Years later, citizens rise up against the occupiers, weary from their living conditions and lack of freedom. Miklos enlists help from friends at university, the young men embarking on a delivery of supplies to aid people cutoff by the fighting, only to become unwitting accomplices to the revolution, caught up in the battle for Budapest. Surviving, Miklos returns home with his friend and neighbor to discover that the authorities are aware of their involvement, seeking their arrest. As wanted men they have no choice but to make a hasty escape west across the border.

Book Where the Iron Crosses Grow

Download or read book Where the Iron Crosses Grow written by Robert Forczyk and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-20 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crimean Peninsula was the setting for the destruction of a number of armies in World War II, both Soviet and German. When the Soviets fortified Sevastopol in 1941 it heralded the beginning of a period of intense fighting over the Crimea. In this remarkable work, acclaimed author Robert Forcyzk assembles new research to investigate the intense and barbaric fighting for the region in World War II, where first Soviet and then German armies were surrounded and totally obliterated. Forcyzk's unique account provides a definitive analysis of the many unique characteristics of the conflict, exploring the historical context as it uncovers one of the most pivotal theaters of the Eastern Front during World War II.

Book Justice Behind the Iron Curtain

Download or read book Justice Behind the Iron Curtain written by Gabriel N. Finder and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Justice behind the Iron Curtain, Gabriel N. Finder and Alexander V. Prusin examine Poland's role in prosecuting Nazi German criminals during the first decade and a half of the postwar era. Finder and Prusin contend that the Polish trials of Nazi war criminals were a pragmatic political response to postwar Polish society and Poles' cravings for vengeance against German Nazis. Although characterized by numerous inconsistencies, Poland's prosecutions of Nazis exhibited a fair degree of due process and resembled similar proceedings in Western democratic counties. The authors examine reactions to the trials among Poles and Jews. Although Polish-Jewish relations were uneasy in the wake of the extremely brutal German wartime occupation of Poland, postwar Polish prosecutions of German Nazis placed emphasis on the fate of Jews during the Holocaust. Justice behind the Iron Curtain is the first work to approach communist Poland's judicial postwar confrontation with the legacy of the Nazi occupation.

  • Author : John Mosier
  • Publisher : Henry Holt and Company

Download or read book Cross of Iron written by John Mosier and published by Henry Holt and Company. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A riveting account of the origins and development of the German army that breaks through the distortions of conventional military history Acclaimed for his revisionist history of the German Army in World War I, John Mosier continues his pioneering work in Cross of Iron, offering an intimate portrait of the twentieth-century German army from its inception, through World War I and the interwar years, to World War II and its climax in 1945. World War I has inspired a vast mythology of bravery and carnage, told largely by the victors, that has fascinated readers for decades. Many have come to believe that the fast ascendancy of the Allied army, matched by the failure of a German army shackled by its rigidity, led to the war's outcome. Mosier demystifies the strategic and tactical realities to explain that it was Germany's military culture that provided it with the advantage in the first war. Likewise, Cross of Iron offers stunning revelations regarding the weapons of World War II, forcing a reevaluation of the reasons behind the French withdrawal, the Russian contribution, and Hitler as military thinker. Mosier lays to rest the notion that the army, as opposed to the SS, fought a clean and traditional war. Finally, he demonstrates how the German war machine succeeded against more powerful Allied armies until, in both wars, it was crushed by U.S. intervention. The result of thirty years of primary research, Cross of Iron is a powerful and authoritative reinterpretation of Germany at war.

Book Hitler s Cross

  • Author : Erwin W. Lutzer
  • Publisher : Moody Publishers
  • Release : 2015-12-15

Download or read book Hitler s Cross written by Erwin W. Lutzer and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Nazi Germany is one of conflict between two saviors and two crosses. “Deine Reich komme,” Hitler prayed publicly—“Thy Kingdom come.” But to whose kingdom was he referring? When Germany truly needed a savior, Adolf Hitler falsely assumed the role. He directed his countrymen to a cross, but he bent and hammered the true cross into a horrific substitute: a swastika. Where was the church through all of this? With a few exceptions, the German church looked away while Hitler inflicted his “Final Solution” upon the Jews. Hitler’s Cross is a chilling historical account of what happens when evil meets a silent, shrinking church, and an intriguing and convicting exposé of modern America’s own hidden crosses. Erwin W. Lutzer extracts a number of lessons from this dark chapter in world history, such as: The dangers of confusing church and state The role of God in human tragedy The parameters of Satan's freedom Hitler's Cross is the story of a nation whose church forgot its call and discovered its failure way too late. It is a cautionary tale for every church and Christian to remember who the true King is.
