Book Markets in Profile

Download or read book Markets in Profile written by James F. Dalton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-01-11 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Markets in Profile explores the confluence of three disparate philosophical frameworks: the Market Profile, behavioral finance, and neuroeconomics in order to present a unified theory of how markets work. The Market Profile is an ever-evolving, multidimensional graphic that gives visual form to the market's continuing auction process, revealing the myriad underlying dynamics that influence market activity. Behavioral finance posits that investors are driven more by emotional factors and the subjective interpretation of minutia than by "rationality" when making investment decisions. And neuroeconomics is the study of how investor psychology permeates and affects the financial markets. Mr. Dalton explicates the ways in which irrational human behavior influences the market's natural auction process, creating frequently predictable market structure, which results in opportunities for investors to ameliorate risk. The book will improve investors ability to interpret change in markets, enabling better, more confident investment decisions.

Book Fragilities in the U S Treasury Market

Download or read book Fragilities in the U S Treasury Market written by Antoine Bouveret and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in the structure of the U.S. Treasury market over recent years may have increased risks to financial stability. Traditional market makers have changed their liquidity provision by increasingly switching from risk warehousing to risk distribution, and a new breed of market maker has emerged with the rise of electronic trading. The “flash rally” of October 15, 2014 provides a clear example of how those risks can materialize. Based on an in-depth analysis of the event—complementing the authorities’ work—we suggest i) providing incentives for liquidity provision, ii) improving market safeguards, and iii) enhancing the regulation of the Treasury market.

Book Putting Auction Theory to Work

Download or read book Putting Auction Theory to Work written by Paul Milgrom and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-01-12 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to modern auction theory and its important new applications. It is written by a leading economic theorist whose suggestions guided the creation of the new spectrum auction designs. Aimed at graduate students and professionals in economics, the book gives the most up-to-date treatments of both traditional theories of 'optimal auctions' and newer theories of multi-unit auctions and package auctions, and shows by example how these theories are used. The analysis explores the limitations of prominent older designs, such as the Vickrey auction design, and evaluates the practical responses to those limitations. It explores the tension between the traditional theory of auctions with a fixed set of bidders, in which the seller seeks to squeeze as much revenue as possible from the fixed set, and the theory of auctions with endogenous entry, in which bidder profits must be respected to encourage participation.

Book Large Scale Asset Purchases by the Federal Reserve

Download or read book Large Scale Asset Purchases by the Federal Reserve written by Joseph Gagnon and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Dec. 2008, the Fed. Reserve¿s traditional policy instrument, the target federal funds rate, has been near zero. In order to further ease the stance of monetary policy as the economic outlook deteriorated, the Fed. Reserve purchased substantial quantities of assets with medium and long maturities. This paper explains how these purchases were implemented and discusses how they can affect the economy. The purchases led to meaningful and long-lasting reductions in longer-term interest rates (IR) on a range of securities, incl. securities that were not included in the purchase programs. These reductions in IR primarily reflect lower risk premiums, including term premiums, rather than lower expectations of future short-term IR. Tables.

Book Auctions

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Klemperer
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2018-06-05
  • ISBN : 0691186294
  • Pages : 263 pages

Download or read book Auctions written by Paul Klemperer and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments use them to sell everything from oilfields to pollution permits, and to privatize companies; consumers rely on them to buy baseball tickets and hotel rooms, and economic theorists employ them to explain booms and busts. Auctions make up many of the world's most important markets; and this book describes how auction theory has also become an invaluable tool for understanding economics. Auctions: Theory and Practice provides a non-technical introduction to auction theory, and emphasises its practical application. Although there are many extremely successful auction markets, there have also been some notable fiascos, and Klemperer provides many examples. He discusses the successes and failures of the one-hundred-billion dollar "third-generation" mobile-phone license auctions; he, jointly with Ken Binmore, designed the first of these. Klemperer also demonstrates the surprising power of auction theory to explain seemingly unconnected issues such as the intensity of different forms of industrial competition, the costs of litigation, and even stock trading 'frenzies' and financial crashes. Engagingly written, the book makes the subject exciting not only to economics students but to anyone interested in auctions and their role in economics.
