Book Ask a Manager

Download or read book Ask a Manager written by Alison Green and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Book Before Boy Meets Girl and After

Download or read book Before Boy Meets Girl and After written by Natacha Sarthou Kalicharan and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who said love and money do not mix? Usually a man pursues a woman with love and romance, which typically turns the fire on. However, sooner or later, money matters could extinguish this fire...if he does not know how to keep it burning. This book challenges men of all ages, married and unmarried, regardless of their economic backgrounds, to become men of success, equipped to adequately be the head of their homes. "Marriage is obviously a very important subject and in light of the high divorce rate in our culture, help must come from several different angles. Without "bashing" men or denying women the right to work if they choose to, this book by Natacha Kalicharan approaches the subject from a different perspective, while at the same time acknowledging that the western culture primarily made up of two income families. This book provides a strong look in the mirror so that men and women can see how they measure up before they get married." William Ray, Associate Pastor Natacha Sarthou Kalicharan, a high-achieving individual, left a well-paid professional career to become a mother and homemaker. She says, "The homemaking position is highly valuable and fulfilling as well as rewarding. I have heard of women who regretted not having been there to see their children grow because of their job or career, but I have not heard of women regretting not having gone to work." Today she is also the co-founder of World For Christ International Ministries, Inc., author of "Married but Still a Virgin," and a fund-raiser to build homes for the poor. Some of her achievements include modeling, commercials, being named 1990 Miami Orange Bowl Princess, preached alongside her husband on Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), and has ministered at numerous churches through liturgical dance and by teaching God's Word.

Book Before In and After Hollywood

Download or read book Before In and After Hollywood written by Joseph Henabery and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1914, a young midwesterner quit his railroad job to crack the Hollywood motion picture boom. Impressed by his energy and honesty in his role as Lincoln, D.W. Griffith made him his assistant for Intolerance. Griffith then made Joe a director. He swiftly progressed to a preeminent position in the industry, directing some of the biggest Hollywood stars of the 1920's including Douglas Fairbanks, Fatty Arbuckle, and Rudolph Valentino. Versatility played an important role in Joe's rich creative life inside the studios. His understanding of the mechanics of motion-picture film led him to develop and be granted a patent for teaching speech to the deaf by visualizing sound. He pioneered sound short-subjects for the Vitaphone Studios in Brooklyn and later directed WWII training films for the Army Signal Corps in Astoria. Henabery contributed, not only as a director, but also as a researcher, writer, make-up artist/actor, architect, scenic designer, and special-effects innovator. His autobiography, Before, In and After Hollywood was completed in 1975 shortly before his death. Contains 24 black and white photographs.

Book Before and After the Project Starts

Download or read book Before and After the Project Starts written by MBA PMP Charles E. Moone and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complex world surrounds the project team. Led by a project manager and judged by the board of directors, executives, customers, and employees, it would be tempting to ask why anyone would choose to work within such an environment, let alone encourage and lead the organization on a potentially perilous road. The answer is simple - there is great joy in working with the talented and able participants engaged in a project while pursuing and satisfying the organization's needs. Prescribed procedures are part of project management. It is these procedures that provide stepping stones from where we are today and what we want and expect to be tomorrow. Many procedures and best practices are based on A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge and ISO 21500, Guidance on Project Management. These guides provide best practices and international standards as well as frameworks that are coupled with steps that should be followed to effectively implement the best practices. However, neither guide discusses how to ensure that people will welcome the results of a project with open arms and embrace wholeheartedly the impact that has been imposed on them. Since people are involved in these projects, their behavior and well-being must be provided for - especially when environmental and procedural changes are being made. Ignoring the psychological and emotional impact on people may result in project failure. It is the project manager's responsibility to examine, understand, and implement best practices, determine the level at which a best practice is used, and accommodate the physical and mental needs of people affected by the projects.

The programme's overarching goal is to retrieve the person behind the injury by helping survivors master the consequences of their brain injury. The approach combines CBT principles that develop awareness and recognition of mental events with CBT techniques that are instrumental in achieving behaviour change. The manual focuses on the three aspects of acquired brain injury that are integral to achieving gains through rehabilitation: 1) Change-awareness: develops awareness of the changes that are consequent upon brain injury. 2) Change-investigation: helps understand why these changes occur; how we interpret them and how we cope with them. 3) Change-mastery: helps gain mastery over these changes by developing and mobilising adaptive capability. Including extensive resources for practitioners, clients and support workers, this comprehensive manual provides everything you need in order to run the most effective brain injury rehabilitation groups in one place.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive guide for preparing for—and recovering from—cancer treatment. A twelve-year cancer survivor and oncology rehabilitation specialist, Dr. Julie K. Silver wrote After Cancer Treatment to help others recover from the exhaustion and physical devastation that often follow treatment. This new edition of the book, retitled Before and After Cancer Treatment, describes improved therapies, better delivery of care, holistic care options, and energetics. In covering the benefits of prehabilitation strategies, which improve physical and emotional strength before beginning therapy, the book adds another dimension to the experience of cancer treatment. Dr. Silver fills this survivor-oriented book with exercise and diet recommendations as well as step-by-step instructions for fighting fatigue, monitoring mood, and overcoming setbacks. Readers are encouraged to set balanced goals, take time to heal, and consult both conventional and alternative medicine. Most people will live for many years after their initial cancer diagnosis—often cured or in remission. Some will live with cancer as a chronic condition. The goal is always to live life to the fullest, which means feeling as strong as possible—physically and emotionally. Dr. Silver recommends daring to dream again and preparing for the future. Wherever they are in their own journey with cancer, readers will find here a personal, practical, and powerful guide to recovery.

Book The Effect of Physical Conditioning on an Individual Before and After Suffering a Myocardial Infarction

Download or read book The Effect of Physical Conditioning on an Individual Before and After Suffering a Myocardial Infarction written by John Naughton and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Personnel engaged in aviation activities are not exempted from the development of coronary heart disease: a 54 year old white male suffered an acute inferoseptal myocardial infarction after he had voluntarily taken part in a regular exercise program designed to improve the conditions of existing hypertension, over-weight and hypercholesterolemia. The post-infarct recuperation was uncomplicated. Four weeks later physical activities were slowly increased from day to day. A remarkable progress in restoring cardio-respiratory efficiency was observed when the training was switched from dull types of exercises to simply competitive ball games. The training response was similar to that observed in normal individuals. Twenty and 23 weeks post-infarct this individual was normotensive, had a normal serum cholesterol concentration and a near-normal body weight. In addition, his capacity for making cardio-respiratory adjustments to high metabolic demands exceeded the originally established level. (Author).

Book Before and After Darwin

Download or read book Before and After Darwin written by M.J.S. Hodge and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of a pair of volumes by Jonathan Hodge, collecting all his most innovative, revisionist and influential papers on Charles Darwin and on the longer run of theories about origins and species from ancient times to the present. The focus in this volume is on the diversity of theories among such pre-Darwinian authors as Lamarck and Whewell, and on developments in the theory of natural selection since Darwin. Plato's Timaeus, the Biblical Genesis and any current textbook of evolutionary biology are all, it may well seem, on this same enduring topic: origins and species. However, even among classical authors, there were fundamental disagreements: the ontology and cosmogony of the Greek atomists were deeply opposed to Plato's; and, in the millennia since, the ontological and cosmogonical contexts for theories about origins and species have never settled into any unifying consensus. While the structure of Darwinian theory may be today broadly what it was in Darwin's own argumentation, controversy continues over the old issues about order, chance, necessity and purpose in the living world and the wider universe as a whole. The historical and philosophical papers collected in this volume, and in the companion volume devoted to Darwin's theorising, seek to clarify the major continuities and discontinuities in the long run of thinking about origins and species.

Book Race and Arab Americans Before and After 9 11

Download or read book Race and Arab Americans Before and After 9 11 written by Amaney Jamal and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2008-02-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing the rich terrain of Arab American histories to bear on conceptualizations of race in the United States, this groundbreaking volume fills a critical gap in the field of U.S. racial and ethnic studies. The articles collected here highlight emergent discourses on the distinct ways that race matters to the study of Arab American histories and experiences and asks essential questions. What is the relationship between U.S. imperialism in Arab homelands and anti-Arab racism in the United States? In what ways have the axes of nation, religion, class, and gender intersected with Arab American racial formations? What is the significance of whiteness studies to Arab American studies? Transcending multiculturalist discourses that have simply added on the category “Arab-American” to the landscape of U.S. racial and ethnic studies after the attacks of September 11, 2001, this volume locates September 11 as a turning point, rather than as a beginning, in Arab Americans’
