Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jebediah Rufus is a hilarious illustrated story celebrating American folklore, good old-fashioned storytelling, and life in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Take a trip with our hero-the narrator-deep into the wilderness where the legendary figure JEBEDIAH RUFUS lives and chases off trespassers . . . and you won't believe the surprise he has waiting on them! Crafted by graphic artist Joshua Gibson and illustrator Steve McAllister, Jebediah is a feast for the eyes and ears and is sure to bring belly laughs to all who read it.___________ Author Joshua Gibson originally wrote this fantasy story at age 12, before the world required he portray a more "mature" front. Now in his 40's, he decided it was high time to let the silly back out. Until now, Jebediah Rufus has mainly been an oral storytelling performance, from campfire hangs with friends to a full summer of recitation at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. Now finally developed into a graphic storybook, you and your kids can read it any time and share in the fun! Jebediah Rufus: An Appalachian Tall Tale is written and illustrated as a new folk tale, a modern day take on southern and Appalachian folklore. But there is an unexpected developments in this story, and trust us...it's the kind of plot twist you will never forget! Stay tuned after the story for some (ahem) educational content and more laughs. If you love American folklore, traditional stories, adventure, tall tales, and old-timey American and Appalachian culture, you will love this fun children's book. ***PARENTAL WARNING: Be sure to preview the content prior to reading: story contains potty humor, very mild language and a main character's untimely death (But hey, it wouldn't be an American folk tale without some dark topics!)

Book PIG IRON

Download or read book PIG IRON written by Matthew C. McGuire and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of Appalachia, of the land and the people. The land comes first, because it is a place where the environment so heavily informs the attitudes and behaviors of its occupants. Appalachia is a land that was settled by escaped slaves, convicts, and other societal outcasts. These were rough and unlearned frontiersman and their families who scraped a meager living from a harsh world and were grateful because it meant being free from a society that did not want or value them. That rebel spirit survives in these stories. In my fiction I've attempted to synthesize the essentials of this unique terrain and the people who call it home. These characters are ugly and flawed. Morality is a luxury they cannot afford to indulge. My stories deal with many themes common to literary fiction-death, violence, loss, shame, and pride-but it focuses these themes through an Appalachian lens.

Yet a century ago, working mothers were in the minority, excluded altogether from many occupations, whilst their wage-earning was widely perceived as a social ill. In Double Lives, Helen McCarthy accounts for this remarkable transformation and the momentous consequences it has had for Britain. Recovering the everyday worlds of working mothers, this groundbreaking history forces us not only to re-evaluate the past, but to ask anew how current attitudes towards mothers in the workplace have developed and how far we have to go. Book Barksdale Family History and Genealogy

Download or read book Barksdale Family History and Genealogy written by John Augustus Barksdale and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Barksdale Family History and Genealogy: With Collateral Lines Six years ago, while visiting my brother, I came across an old copy Of the pamphlet on the Barksdale Family by Miss Hubert. With the idea of revising and bringing down to date my own line, principally for the benefit of my three young nieces, I began the necessary re? Search. My investigations soon became so involved with other lines that it was necessary to extend the scope of the work originally planned, and several members of the family prevailed upon me to endeavor to compile the complete history and genealogy of the entire family. The compilation Of a complete genealogy of a family of ten, or more, generations, including therein all of the female lines, is almost a lifetime work for a single individual and would require many volumes to encompass it. The within work is by no means a complete genealogy in this sense, nor is it claimed to be. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
