Book Spells Like Teen Spirit

Download or read book Spells Like Teen Spirit written by Kate M. Williams and published by Delacorte Press. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The final installment in the hilarious, action-packed Babysitters Coven series that Refinery29 calls "candy for 90's girls and Gen Z'ers alike," featuring a coven of witchy babysitters sworn to protect the innocent and defend the world from an onslaught of evil--all before bedtime. Ever since Esme met Cassandra Heaven and discovered the truth about their shared legacy--that they're Sitters, supernaturally gifted teens tasked with protecting the innocent from evil--her life has been moving at 90 mph. During the day, she chases wild toddlers, and at night, she employs a different skill set for a different kind of demon. Like, literal ones. And sometimes it's almost fun. Her spells are getting better, her telekinesis is on point, and now that Esme's dad and her best friend Janis know the truth, she's no longer lying to the people she loves. She's also learned that there's a way to undo her mother's curse, and with the Synod out of the picture, she might even have a chance to do it. If she could just figure out how. But she can't, and even with her mom living at home again, Esme can't shake the feeling that she's failing. Throw in the fact that Pig is still gone, Esme's crush is MIA, and it's cold, slushy February, and she's in bummer city. Esme needs a serious pick-me-up, and Janis has a plan: a Galentine's stay-cation, with the Sitter friends Esme and Cassandra made at the Summit. Except things are getting weird in Spring River again. Esme and Cassandra just discovered a new band, and not in a good way: these guys reek of Red Magic, and their music sucks. Trouble is brewing, and if Esme's not careful, this show might be her last--and no one likes a one-hit wonder.

What if your dreams were really a reality, an old life, or an alternate path based on a technicality? Her eyes, the eyes of a tiger, burned into the back of Devin’s mind after waking from that same nightmare, but the question upon waking is who is she and why is this happening? Who is this mystery woman? Devin is your average college student, with dreams of seeing the world with her camera and her two best friends. Her past isn’t the most pleasant, but she grew up surrounded by love and compassion and won’t let anything stand in the way of her goals, and that includes dating. Women are a distraction, and honestly, Devin didn’t know she needed one until she “bumped” into Amirah. Confusion sets in when friendship turns to feelings and Amirah being in a long-term relationship, but the confusion was overshadowed by anger and frustration as it turns out Devin and Amirah have a complicated history. As the truth slowly comes out, Devin learns she’s not who, or even what, she thinks she is and there’s more to her story. She must embark on a journey of love, betrayal, and discovery in order to understand that she is the key to changing everything around her. Primal instincts set in when she discovers whom those eyes belong to and wrongs must be righted, but what would you expect if you found the woman of your dreams?

Book The Seven Stages of an Enlightened Teacher

Download or read book The Seven Stages of an Enlightened Teacher written by Christine Jax and published by R&L Education. This book was released on 2011-07-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Seven Stages of an Enlightened Teacher, Dr. Christine Jax presents a path to great teaching that shows how and why teaching is 'a calling' in the true sense of the words. The book is grounded in the theory that the education of another person is a spiritual endeavor that improves as the inner life of the teacher improves. While avoiding the perils of dogma, doctrine, and politics, Jax has found a way for teachers to understand the role of God and spirituality in the classroom. She does this by focusing on the teacher's strengths and commitment rather than on the student or the subject matter content. Through inspirational stories, concrete instructional strategies, and spiritual practices, this book helps teachers go through stages of enlightenment in order to become energized, fulfilled, and successful at increasing student growth and learning. The Seven Stages of an Enlightened Teacher demonstrates how the individual teacher's gifts and beliefs are the primary elements of great teaching.

Book Sufism in America

  • Author : Julianne Hazen
  • Publisher : Lexington Books
  • Release : 2016-12-13
  • ISBN : 1498533876
  • Pages : 263 pages

Download or read book Sufism in America written by Julianne Hazen and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sufism in America sheds light on spiritual, mystical Islam in America. The Sufi path focuses on developing a personal relationship with God, doing what is beautiful in the sight of God, and struggling against the lower self to reach loving submission. Up to this point, very little has been written about the Sufi orders in America and those who participate in them. This study focuses on the Alami Tariqa in Waterport, New York, which was started in the 1970s by a shaykh from the Balkans. The Alami Tariqa strives to uphold sharia while adapting to the Western setting. Its membership is diverse, consisting mostly of American-born participants from Christian and Jewish backgrounds, in addition to a few Muslim immigrants from South Asia. This study explores how this order has acculturated to the American setting, why individuals choose to join the tariqa, and what it means to pursue spiritual goals in a modern, Western society. Conclusions are drawn from interviews, a survey, and observations of teachings, plus the author’s experience working with this community for over ten years. The book interweaves personal stories and insider views with academic insight to provide a compelling and detailed picture of Sufism as a living and dynamic tradition in America.

Book excerpt: DIV DIVDIVExplore the third of the great literatures in Judaism/divDIV /div/divDIVWhile many readers may have heard of Kabbalah in recent years, how many understand the origins and unique perspective of this collection of Jewish mystical beliefs? Handed down in the oral tradition for thousands of years and transcribed in fourteenth-century Spain, the Kabbalah is the classical expression of Jewish mysticism. This collection draws from the main work of Kabbalah—Sepher ha-Zohar, or The Book of Splendor—and offers insight into the great body of Hebrew literature that sprang up and grew parallel to the traditional writings of rabbinical literature. Written in the dialectic style as a commentary to the Torah, the Kabbalah examines man’s mystical union with God in thoughts of wisdom and deeds of kindness through a symbol-laden examination of the God before creation. A mix of ethics and mysticism, Kabbalah’s wisdom is frequently imparted through gematria, or a symbolic language based in numbers that correspond with the letters of the Hebrew alphabet./divDIV /divDIVThis ebook features a new introduction, image gallery, and index of the Hebrew alphabet./div /div

Book excerpt: Veronica Mars meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this clever, action-packed sequel to the Babysitters Coven about a coven of witchy babysitters who realize their calling to protect the innocent and save the world from an onslaught of evil. Esme Pearl's life used to be all about bumming rides and babysitting. Sure, it wasn't glamorous, but it was predictable. All that changed when Cassandra Heaven came to town, and they discovered their complicated, and connected, legacy: Esme and Cassandra are Sitters, supernaturally gifted teens armed with an ever-changing grimoire of Sitter witchcraft to help them protect the innocent and keep evil demons at bay. You know, typical teenage stuff. But just as Esme is starting to adjust to--and maybe even like--her new normal, life lobs another glitter bomb her way. The Synod--the Sitterhood's governing circle--has called a Summit, a once-in-a-generation gathering that promises training, education, and a lot of ice-breakers. Esme should be excited--a Summit might mean she can finally get the answers she desperately wants--but she can't shake a building sense of panic. Especially since Cassandra's not acting like herself; Esme's dad is MIA; Pig is out of dog food; Janis is scared to be alone; and there's a guy who seems too good to be true, again. Worst of all, there's no one watching the kids. It's obvious the Summit is a haute mess, but will it be a deadly one, too?
