Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I came out of the womb already on fire from the homophobic hell of the Southern Baptist Church. Their Savior said 'Love Your Neighbor' yet they hated me for expressing my love? My childhood was how sinful I am, what pills to swallow, how ashamed I made my father. My honorable judge father lol, he beat me, belittled me, sent me to Gay-to-Straight Christian Conversion Camps where I was mole...whoa, we're just meeting each other, sorry.Senior year daddy dearest said "stop being queer, attend my Alma Mater, join my frat or be homeless!" Deeply desiring a family, I caved. Yeah, I still hate me for it too. I entered the University of Alabama as the role my father cast but no amount of beer bongs turned off my inner truth so I turned to Jesus. The more I learned the more I wanted to heal the sick, feed the poor, embody his message. So on my 21st instead of beers with bros, I drove home to give Dad my truth. I thought since Jesus inspired me he'd understand instead he strangled me, said if I come back he'd finish the job. I still hear mom screaming 'look what you made him do...'WTF am I doing? You don't care about me. You only care about getting retweets and subscribers on fucking Youtube. You don't care that I was locked in a mental institution for no reason and break out to find my partner cheating, my job firing me, and becoming homeless. You don't care about the trauma beat into my childhood. You don't care about what's keeping you from embodying your deepest truth. Fuck, I'm sorry, you're not supposed too. That's my job. That's why I wrote this. The Bisexual Christian Suburban Failure Enlightening Bipolar Blues is me confronting my trauma and changing it so I can embody who I am so I can help change this fucking stupid disconnected beautiful world!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Likes to Play with Dolls is a children’s book about acceptance, kindness, and unconditional love. Its important message is that children’s toys should be for everyone, and that a child’s gender shouldn’t determine what toys they must play with. The story was inspired by the author’s nephew David, and his childhood joy of playing with his sister Caroline’s dolls. As a bright-eyed, joyful little boy, in his heart all he wanted was to be accepted by others. Playing with dolls made him happy, because he simply didn’t like the “boy toys,” consisting of cars and trucks. One day David’s sister can’t find her Gypsy Fairy Queen doll. Caroline looks in every room in the house, only to find that David has been playing with her dolls and toys. She becomes very upset with him, until she realizes that her brother should be able to play with any toys he enjoys.

Book excerpt: Gain an in-depth understanding of the unique struggles of the bisexual community! “To me the gay and straight worlds are exactly the same; equally limited, judgmental, and bourgeois . . . just mirror images of each other. I truly like and overlap with some of the gay world, but my roots refuse to take hold there and grow. Unfortunately, my well-established roots in the straight world are simultaneously shriveling and dying too, leaving me feeling extremely unstable.” —“Cool,” a bisexual woman involved in a support group There are at least five million bisexual people in America, generally invisible to straight society, the gay community, and even to each other. While the vast majority of these five million live within the straight or gay world, there are a few who have formed a community of their own. Bi America: Myths, Truths, and Struggles of an Invisible Community offers an inside look at the American bisexual community and gives an understanding of the special circumstances unique to being bisexual. The book takes the reader to bi community events from picnics, to conferences, to support groups, to performances in order to expose the everyday trials of the bisexual community. Bi America includes very personal stories that let the voice of everyday bisexuals be heard through interviews, the “Bisexual History Project,” in which ten bisexual people tell their life stories, and the “Online Support Group,” a group of about 75 people who meet in cyberspace to talk about their lives and challenges. The book also includes the findings of a 2002 survey of about 300 bisexual people conducted via the Internet, an appendix that offers a concise list of resources for further study and personal enrichment, and an unabridged transcript of the “Bisexual History Project.” Get the answers to these questions in Bi America: What is bisexuality? Is there a bisexual community? What is the culture of the bisexual community? What are commonalities and differences between the experiences of bi men and bi women? What is the special relationship between the bisexual and the transgender community? How have bisexuals and the bi community been affected by HIV/AIDS? What is the future of bisexual activism, if any? and many more! Bi America is a fascinating resource that exposes the challenges, struggles, and triumphs of bisexuals in America. Bisexuals, especially those newly coming out, can use this book to help understand their identity, and family members and friends seeking some insight into the unique circumstances faced by their loved ones will also find it helpful. This book will interest those concerned with the sociology of deviance or with subcultures in general. It is also appropriate for undergraduate sociology and cultural anthropology, as well as feminist studies and LGBT studies classes. This book offers one of the few accessible, nonacademic looks at this unique and interesting community. Visit the book's Web site at http://www.bi101.org

Book The Long Field

Download or read book The Long Field written by Pamela Petro and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For readers of H Is for Hawk, an intimate memoir of belonging and loss and a mesmerizing travelogue through the landscapes and language of Wales Hiraeth is a Welsh word that's famously hard to translate. Literally, it can mean "long field" but generally translates into English, inadequately, as "homesickness." At heart, hiraeth suggests something like a bone-deep longing for an irretrievable place, person, or time—an acute awareness of the presence of absence. In The Long Field, Pamela Petro braids essential hiraeth stories of Wales with tales from her own life—as an American who found an ancient home in Wales, as a gay woman, as the survivor of a terrible AMTRAK train crash, and as the daughter of a parent with dementia. Through the pull and tangle of these stories and her travels throughout Wales, hiraeth takes on radical new meanings. There is traditional hiraeth of place and home, but also queer hiraeth; and hiraeth triggered by technology, immigration, ecological crises, and our new divisive politics. On this journey, the notion begins to morph from a uniquely Welsh experience to a universal human condition, from deep longing to the creative responses to loss that Petro sees as the genius of Welsh culture. It becomes a tool to understand ourselves in our time. A finalist for the Wales Book of the Year Award and named to the Telegraph's and Financial Times's Top 10 lists for travel writing, The Long Field is an unforgettable exploration of “the hidden contours of the human heart.”

Book Bisexual and Gay Husbands

Download or read book Bisexual and Gay Husbands written by Fritz Klein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when married men face their gay/bisexual needs? This astonishing volume offers an intimate look into the lives and thoughts of bisexual men. Already married to women, these men are undeniably attracted to other men. Their struggle with conflicting needs, desires, and loyalties is not filtered through theories or evoked in brief interviews. It comes straight from their own keyboards. The stories told in Bisexual and Gay Husbands are taken from an Internet mailing list, which allows people to speak freely and in anonymity, yet also encourages the development of a tightly knit community. Men at all stages of the coming-out process share their experiences, their secrets, their pain, shame, anger, and hope. One man writes, “I have found the answer to my bisexual needs and am afraid to embrace it. I need help and advice to know what to do. What you people have done in your lives may hold the key to helping me decide on a course of action. I am either going to create a dream come true or hell on earth as I destroy my marriage. I can’t tell which, and of course you can’t either. But you CAN tell me how you are handling the problems I am facing.”Bisexual and Gay Husbands includes advice and information on the issues that touch these men most deeply, including: how do I tell my wife and kids? what does it mean to self-identify as bisexual or gay? what kinds of relationships do I want with men? can triads work? how do I deal with my children’s reaction? do I have to leave my wife? The insight, intelligence, and honesty revealed in Bisexual and Gay Husbands make it a riveting read, but it also has great clinical and historic value for therapists, sex theorists, and bisexual men and their families.

Book Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Identities and Youth

Download or read book Lesbian Gay and Bisexual Identities and Youth written by Anthony R. D'Augelli and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-05-03 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in biological processes, relationships, and community interactions influence the emergence of sexuality in all young people. The process is more complex and difficult for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) teenagers. Fortunately, the cultural changes that have allowed LGB youths to become more open about themselves at earlier ages have also allowed social and behavioral scientists the opportunity to study them. The essays in this volume explore the psychological dimensions of LGB identities from puberty to adulthood. The essays focus on three general areas: theoretical frameworks that are important in understanding the development of sexual orientation in adolescence, challenges faced by LGB youth, and issues related to interventions and services for LGB youths in community settings. This volume presents authoritative, research-based reviews of this ever-increasing area of study and social concern.
