Book excerpt: If his hangover doesn't kill him the undead just might. At 20,000 words this is the first novella in the Metropolitan Zombie Survivors series. The ending completes the story of Boston but there is always a tomorrow... Pat-O is unemployed and out of shape with a face that makes even his mother wonder what happened to him. At least according to the girl he spent last night with. He feels bad about not remembering her name, but when he tries to turn her anger and the future of his lucky T-shirt into a meet cute on the sidewalk of Beacon Street things start to get ugly. Zombies have besieged the city of Boston and in order to survive Pat-O has to put his fate in the hands of his friend Tucker who may be insane, and the information Tucker’s gathered through the less than reliable network of contacts he has as a follower of a local sports blog. Pat-O needs to get across town before the government will allegedly drop nuclear weapons to stem the tide of undead. Protecting himself with armor made from drained wine boxes and duct tape while using a broken souvenir hockey stick as a weapon Pat-O walks, jogs and sweats his way to Tucker in Cleveland Circle. Their buddy ‘Cupcake’ has stolen a Humvee from the National Guard and will pick them up there before getting out of town - ASAP. Metropolitan Zombie Survivors are courageous, creative and lucky. Pat-O and his friends are not trained for survival and have little to no experience with guns. They survive by banding together and balancing their instincts with scrappiness and a hint of intellect.

In the style of First Marathons and Becoming an Ironman, these stories give the personal experience of participating in the sport, either for the first time, or as a lifestyle. Plus many tips for better performance. OCR is the new series of events for people who have become bored with chasing down mile after mile in a marathon, or doing a triathlon, or, say, completing Army boot camp. OCR involves a constantly changing combination of such challenges as: crawling under barbed wire, jumping over fire, spear throwing, wall scaling, enduring electric shocks, plunging into ice-water baths—all while running a course that may be anywhere from 3 to 10 miles, or more. Participation numbers for OCR are booming. Just as marathons and 10Ks saw a huge national running boom, we are now at the dawn of the OCR Boom. Get Muddy will appeal to everyone from the mildly curious to the wildly committed. So go get muddy! “Doing an OCR will make you feel alive again. We are naturally wired to run, sweat, and struggle a bit. Get outside and get the juices flowing. You’ll feel great!” —Joe DeSena, founder, Spartan Race Series “OCR lets you play like a kid and experience life unedited.” —Margaret Schlachter, author of Obstacle Race Training: How to Beat Any Course, Compete Like a Champion and Change Your Life and the first professional female obstacle course racer

Book Mets by the Numbers

Download or read book Mets by the Numbers written by Jon Springer and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first team history of the New York Mets—or any other team—to be told through a lighthearted analysis of uniform numbers. Ordinary club histories proceed year by year to give the big picture. Mets by the Numbers uses jersey numbers to tell the little stories—the ones the fans love—of the team and its players. This newly revised edition is a catalog of the more than 700 Mets who have played since 1962, but it is far from just a list of No. 18s and 41s. Mets by the Numbers celebrates the team’s greatest players, critiques numbers that have failed to attract talent, and singles out particularly productive numbers, and numbers that had really big nights. With coverage of superstitions, prolific jersey-wearers, the ever-changing Mets uniform, and significant Mets numbers not associated with uniforms, this book is a fascinating alternative history of the Amazin’s. Book I Do It with the Lights On

Download or read book I Do It with the Lights On written by Whitney Way Thore and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the star of TLC’s My Big Fat Fabulous Life and the YouTube sensation “A Fat Girl Dancing” comes an empowering memoir about letting go of your limitations and living the life you deserve. Right now. Whitney Way Thore stands five feet two inches tall and weighs well over three hundred pounds, and she is totally, completely, and truly . . . happy. But she wasn’t always the vivacious, confident woman you see on TV. Growing up as a dancer, Whitney felt the pressure to be thin, a desire that grew into an obsession as she got older. From developing an eating disorder as a teenager, to extreme weight gain in college, to her ongoing struggle with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), Whitney reveals her fight to overcome the darkest moments in her life. She holds nothing back, opening up about the depths of her depression as well as her resilience in the face of constant harassment and mistreatment. Now Whitney is on top of the world and taking no BS (Body Shame, of course). And she’s sharing the steps she took to get there and the powerful message behind her successful No Body Shame campaign. She even reveals her favorite “F” word (it’s probably not what you think), the thrill of doing it with the lights on, and the story behind the “Fat Girl Dancing” video that started it all. Exuberant and utterly honest, I Do It with the Lights On is the inspiring story of how Whitney finally discovered her fabulousness when she stepped off the scale and into her life, embracing herself unconditionally—body, heart, and soul. Advance praise for I Do It with the Lights On “Whitney’s story is one of radical vulnerability. She is a vibrant example of what it means to choose confidence when insecurity beckons from every corner. She is cool, funny, and shameless—in the best possible way.”—Kelsey Miller, author of Big Girl: How I Gave Up Dieting & Got a Life “Soaring above expectations, I Do It with the Lights On delves into the complicated relationship between a woman and her body. With her trademark charisma, Whitney emerges triumphant, plucking from the mire some of the most important realizations one can hope to have. If you have a body, this memoir is a must-read.”—Linda Bacon, PhD
