Book The Greenhouse Gas Balance of Italy

Download or read book The Greenhouse Gas Balance of Italy written by Riccardo Valentini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-29 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses in a comprehensive way the full greenhouse gases budget of the Italian landscape, focusing on land use and terrestrial ecosystems. In recent years there has been a growing interest in the role of terrestrial ecosystems with regard to the carbon cycle and only recently a regional approach has been considered for its specificity in terms of new methodologies for observations and models and its relevance for national policies on mitigation and adaptation to climate changes. In terms of methods this book describes the role of flux networks and data-driven models, airborne regional measurements of fluxes and specific sectoral approaches related to important components of the human and natural landscapes. There is also a growing need on the part of institutions, agencies and policy stakeholders for new data and analyses enabling them to improve their national inventories of greenhouse gases and their compliance with the UNFCCC process. In this respect the data presented is a basis for a full carbon accounting and available to relevant stakeholders for improvements and/or verification of national inventories. The wealth of research information is the result of a national project, CARBOITALY, which involved 15 Italian institutions and several researchers to provide new data and analyses in the framework of climate policies.

Book Love and Monsters

    Book Details:
  • Author : Miles Booy
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2012-03-29
  • ISBN : 0857736442
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Love and Monsters written by Miles Booy and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholar and Who fan Miles Booy has written the first historical account of the public interpretation of Doctor Who. Love and Monsters begins in 1979 with the publication of 'Doctor Who Weekly', the magazine that would start a chain of events that would see creative fans taking control of the merchandise and even of the programme's massively successful twenty-first century reboot. From the twilight of Tom Baker's years to the newest Doctor, Matt Smith, Miles Booy explores the shifting meaning of Doctor Who across the years - from the Third Doctor's suggestion that we should read the Bible, via costumed fans on television, up to the 2010 general election in Britain. This is also the story of how the ambitious producer John Nathan-Turner, assigned to the programme in 1979, produced a visually-excessive programme for a tele-literate fanbase, and how this style changed the ways in which Doctor Who could be read. The Doctor's world has never been bigger, inside or out!

Book An Evacuee s Story a North Yorkshire Family in Wartime

Download or read book An Evacuee s Story a North Yorkshire Family in Wartime written by John T. Wright and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-09-12 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poignantly written and graphically described story of the pleasure and pain endured as an evacuee during World War Two. Like so many of his young friends and relatives, John Wright was required to leave the love and care of his parents in Middlesbrough at a very young age to escape the attention of the Luftwaffe and to be evacuated into the hands of a crowded and unloving home in Haxby, a quaint village north of the great city of York. The book eloquently describes his voyage of childhood discovery in the beautiful countryside coupled with the cruel attentions of a foster mother whose motivation was not to lavish love and support to her unfortunate foster children, but to hurt and belittle them. It is a bittersweet story of innocent interludes and mean realities for an evacuee child set amidst the horrors and melancholy of that devastating conflict.
