Book Bean Anthracnose

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sachin Gupta
  • Publisher : LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
  • Release : 2012
  • ISBN : 9783659269752
  • Pages : 100 pages

Download or read book Bean Anthracnose written by Sachin Gupta and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Present studies on anthracnose of french bean caused by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc. and Magn.) Bri. and Cav. conducted during 2003 and 2004 revealed that maximum disease incidence and severity was present in Poonch district followed by Rajouri and Doda. Minimum disease was recorded in Jammu district. Disease recurrence occurred through infected seeds and moderate temperatures (up to 300C) coupled with high relative humidity (>70%) favored the vertical and horizontal spread of disease. Gompertz model provided better fit and linearization of disease progress curves than logistic model. Twelve races were identified from different bean growing areas on the basis of reaction type on CIAT differentials. The races were designated as 11, 65, 73, 83, 279, 371, 395, 553, 563, 639, 741 and 935. Of these 11, 279, 371, 555, 563 and 741 were reported for the first time. In vitro studies revealed that Trichoderma viride 2 isolate, leaf extract of neem and among fungicides carbendazim and carboxin were found most effective in inhibiting mycelial growth of C. lindemuthianum

Book Integrated Management of Common Bean Anthracnose

Download or read book Integrated Management of Common Bean Anthracnose written by Amin Mohammed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bean anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum is an important disease affecting common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). In Ethiopia, this disease is one of the most destructive biotic constraints to common bean production. Information on yield losses and management options addressing both seed and soil-borne inoculum sources of this disease is lacking in Hararghe highlands which produces common bean in large areas. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of integrated management of bean anthracnose through soil solarization and fungicides applications on epidemics of the disease, and to determine the effect of integrated management of bean anthracnose on seed health as well as crop yield and yield components of common bean. Field experiments were conducted at the Haramaya University Main Campus and Hirna Research Sub-Station in 2010 main cropping season. Soil solarization was integrated with mancozeb and carbendazim seed treatments and with foliar sprays of carbendazim at the rate of 0.5 kg/ha at 10 and 20 days intervals. The experiment was arranged in 2 x 3 x 3 split-split plot design with three replications. A total of 18 treatments were evaluated.

Book Diseases of Fruits and Vegetables

Download or read book Diseases of Fruits and Vegetables written by S.A.M.H. Naqvi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the Horticultural Crops, Fruits and Vegetables (FV) are of primary - portance as the key source of essential components in an adequate and balanced human diet. FV have supported largely the daily food requirement of mankind since ages and even before man learned to grow cereal crops systematically. Over the years, growing FV has been the mainstay of rural economy and has emerged as an indispensable part of agriculture world over, offering farmers a wide range of crops in varied topography and climate. In certain parts of the world, FV are the major dietary staple. Apart from being a rich source of vitamins and minerals, this sector also contributes significantly in economy of the region or the nation. The increased income from per unit area of FV is far ahead and can not be compared with that of cereal crops. A recent survey by the Economist revealed that the world population has - creased by 90 % in the past 40 years while food production has increased only by 25 % per head. With an additional 1. 5 billion mouth to feed by 2020, farmers worldwide have to produce 39 % more. Looking at the load of the future food requirement, the global increased production of FV during last few years has absorbed the additional food requirement and accordingly the eating habits are also changing and shifting - wards more consumption of these commodities worldwide.
