Book Beam Instrumentation and Diagnostics

Download or read book Beam Instrumentation and Diagnostics written by Peter Strehl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-18 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the experience of many years of teamwork with my group, the beam diagnostics group of GSI. For a long time the group was also responsible for operating the machines and application programming. In my opinion, this connection was very e?cient: ?rst, because a beam diagnostic system has to place powerful tools at the operators’ disposal; second, because data evaluation and presentation of results for machine operation demand application programs which can be handled not only by skilled experts. On the other hand, accelerator developments and improvements as well as commissioning of new machines by specialists require more complex measu- ments than those for routine machine operation. A modern beam diagnostic system, including the software tools, has to cover these demands, too. Therefore, this book should motivate physicists, constructors, electronic engineers, and computer experts to work together during the design and daily use of a beam diagnostic system. This book aims to give them ideas and tools for their work. I would not have been able to write this book without a good education in physics and many discussions with competent leaders, mentors, and c- leagues. After working about 40 years in teams on accelerators, there are so many people I have to thank that it is impossible to mention them all by name here.

Book Hands On Accelerator Physics Using MATLAB

Download or read book Hands On Accelerator Physics Using MATLAB written by Volker Ziemann and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-29 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awarded one of BookAuthority's best new Particle Physics books in 2019! Hands-On Accelerator Physics Using MATLAB® provides an introduction into the design and operational issues of a wide range of particle accelerators, from ion-implanters to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Many aspects from the design of beam optical systems and magnets, to the subsystems for acceleration, beam diagnostics, and vacuum are covered. Beam dynamics topics ranging from the beam-beam interaction to free-electron lasers are discussed. Theoretical concepts and the design of key components are explained with the help of MATLAB® code. Practical topics, such as beam size measurements, magnet construction and measurements, and radio-frequency measurements are explored in student labs without requiring access to an accelerator. This unique approach provides a look at what goes on 'under the hood' inside modern accelerators and presents readers with the tools to perform their independent investigations on the computer or in student labs. This book will be of interest to graduate students, postgraduate researchers studying accelerator physics, as well as engineers entering the field. Features: Provides insights into both synchrotron light sources and colliders Discusses technical subsystems, including magnets, radio-frequency engineering, instrumentation and diagnostics, correction of imperfections, control, and cryogenics Accompanied by MATLAB® code, including a 3D-modeler to visualize the accelerators, and additional appendices which are available on the CRC Press website MATLAB live-scripts to accompany the book can be found here: https://ziemann.web.cern.ch/ziemann/mybooks/mlx/

Book A Practical Introduction to Beam Physics and Particle Accelerators

Download or read book A Practical Introduction to Beam Physics and Particle Accelerators written by Santiago Bernal and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a brief exposition of the principles of beam physics and particle accelerators with emphasis on numerical examples employing readily available computer tools. Avoiding detailed derivations, we invite the reader to use general high-end languages such as Mathcad and Matlab, as well as specialized particle accelerator codes (e.g. MAD, WinAgile, Elegant, and others) to explore the principles presented. This approach allows the student to readily identify relevant design parameters and their scaling and easily adapt computer input files to other related situations.
