Book Beam Combining by Phase Transition Nonlinear Media

Download or read book Beam Combining by Phase Transition Nonlinear Media written by Glenn Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the work carried out to develop a high response nonlinear material suitable for use with high power lasers. The objective of this program was to demonstrate the use of a gas or liquid near a phase transition as an efficient phase conjugation material. We have attempted to explore this enhancement for both static equilibrium conditions near the critical point and for nonequilibrium conditions created by sudden expansion in a nozzle. The achievement of such a high response nonlinear material would make practical the application of nonlinear phase conjugate techniques to the beam combining of multiple lasers with a coherence characteristic of a single laser. Laser materials; Laser components; Laser beams; Laser resonators; Phase transition. (edc).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Coherent Control of Four-Wave Mixing" discusses the frequency, temporal and spatial domain interplays of four-wave mixing (FWM) processes induced by atomic coherence in multi-level atomic systems. It covers topics in five major areas: the ultrafast FWM polarization beats due to interactions between multi-color laser beams and multi-level media; coexisting Raman-Rayleigh-Brillouin-enhanced polarization beats due to color-locking noisy field correlations; FWM processes with different kinds of dual-dressed schemes in ultra-thin, micrometer and long atomic cells; temporal and spatial interference between FWM and six-wave mixing (SWM) signals in multi-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) media; spatial displacements and splitting of the probe and generated FWM beams, as well as the observations of gap soliton trains, vortex solitons, and stable multicomponent vector solitons in the FWM signals. The book is intended for scientists, researchers, advanced undergraduate and graduate students in Nonlinear Optics. Dr. Yanpeng Zhang is a professor and Zhiqiang Nie is a Ph. D. student at the Key Laboratory for Physical Electronics and Devices of the Ministry of Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. Dr. Min Xiao is a professor of physics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, U.S.A.

Book Coherent Laser Beam Combining

Download or read book Coherent Laser Beam Combining written by Arnaud Brignon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-11-13 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser beam combining techniques allow increasing the power of lasers far beyond what it is possible to obtain from a single conventional laser. One step further, coherent beam combining (CBC) also helps to maintain the very unique properties of the laser emission with respect to its spectral and spatial properties. Such lasers are of major interest for many applications, including industrial, environmental, defense, and scientific applications. Recently, significant progress has beenmade in coherent beam combining lasers, with a total output power of 100 kW already achieved. Scaling analysis indicates that further increase of output power with excellent beam quality is feasible by using existing state-of-the-art lasers. Thus, the knowledge of coherent beam combining techniques will become crucial for the design of next-generation highpower lasers. The purpose of this book is to present the more recent concepts of coherent beam combining by world leader teams in the field.

Book Photorefractive Materials and Their Applications II

Download or read book Photorefractive Materials and Their Applications II written by Peter Günter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-27 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of two volumes that review, for the first time, all major aspects of photorefractive effects and their applications. Photorefractive effects in electro-optic crystals are based on optically induced space-charge fields which ultimately alter the refractive indices by the electro-optic Pockels effect. The fundamental phenomena leading to photoinduced changes of refractive index, the materials requirements and experimental results on a variety of photorefractive materials are discussed and the most recent theoretical models describing these phenomena are presented. Interest in photorefractive materials has increased in recent years mainly because of their potential for nonlinear optical devices and for optical signals processing applications. Most of these applications are reviewed in this volume. The contributions to the two volumes are written by experts on each topic and are intended for scientists and engineers active in the field and for researchers and graduate students entering the field. Over 300 references to original papers on photorefractive and associated phenomena are cited. Volume 1 appeared as Volume 61 of Topics in Applied Physics.
