Book The David Story A Translation with Commentary of 1 and 2 Samuel

Download or read book The David Story A Translation with Commentary of 1 and 2 Samuel written by Robert Alter and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2009-10-21 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A masterpiece of contemporary Bible translation and commentary."—Los Angeles Times Book Review, Best Books of 1999 Acclaimed for its masterful new translation and insightful commentary, The David Story is a fresh, vivid rendition of one of the great works in Western literature. Robert Alter's brilliant translation gives us David, the beautiful, musical hero who slays Goliath and, through his struggles with Saul, advances to the kingship of Israel. But this David is also fully human: an ambitious, calculating man who navigates his life's course with a flawed moral vision. The consequences for him, his family, and his nation are tragic and bloody. Historical personage and full-blooded imagining, David is the creation of a literary artist comparable to the Shakespeare of the history plays.

Book Restoring Your Shield of Faith

Download or read book Restoring Your Shield of Faith written by Chuck D. Pierce and published by Gospel Light Publications. This book was released on 2003-12-08 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This message from Chuck Pierce and Robert Heidler likens our spiritual defense to that of the children of Israel while in battle. Within the ranks there were those who carried huge shields to protect the bulk of the army. And just as we fight spiritual battles today, there is a mighty shield we can carry to protect us. This shield of faith is one of the main ways we can resist our enemy's attacks. We are fully capable of resisting the enemy's attacks, but we must first be able to recognize how Satan fights. His main weapons are to create fear and doubt in us and to tempt us to become complainers and murmurers. If we succumb, our faith is weakened. The keys to increasing our faith are found in knowing the Word of God, which engenders praise, thankfulness, trust and obedience.

Book Restoring the Fallen Tent

Download or read book Restoring the Fallen Tent written by Riaan Engelbrecht and published by XinXii. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been a while since the Lord spoke about restoring the tent of meeting. To understand this, we need to understand that before church, there was the Temple, and before the Temple, there was the tent of meeting in the days of Moses. The tabernacle of meeting evolved in the physical Temple built by Solomon, which evolved among the Gentiles to be mostly church buildings. With the stages of development, especially among Gentiles, the very essence of the tabernacle of meeting as in the days of Moses got lost among the sand of time. The tabernacle in the wilderness was about God meeting with man, and where man could enjoy the presence of the Lord. By the shed Blood of the Lamb, God’s presence is now not contained within a physical structure, for God now makes His home within man by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, as believers, we have BECOME the tabernacle of meeting. Through our interpretation of church, the tabernacle today sadly remains a physical structure instead a spiritual one. The church of today has evolved away from the foundational concept of divine interaction, relationship and Covenant participation, which forms the spiritual tabernacle (house) in service to God. It is time to rediscover God’s true intent and purpose for the Tabernacle, and how we are to restore what has fallen and become lost over the centuries.

Book The Restoration of the Kingdom

Download or read book The Restoration of the Kingdom written by Mark Allfree and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-05-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last nine chapters of the prophecy of Ezekiel present some interesting challenges to the Bible student. Whilst there is general agreement that the temple described in detail by the prophet has never been built, there is disagreement amongst expositors about when it will be constructed, if ever. The author of this book believes there is no doubt that Ezekiel sees in vision a representation of the temple and its services that will form the basis of the future Kingdom of God. He explains how an understanding of Ezekiel's visions depends upon an acceptance that the Kingdom of God will be a restoration of the Kingdom of Israel. The laws that will be instituted will be based upon the Law of Moses, with certain amendments and additions. The temple ritual will serve to educate the subjects of the Kingdom in Divine ways, and lead them to an acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah, and an appreciation of the work that he has already accomplished in laying down his life as a sacrifice for sin.
