Book Naked Swans

Download or read book Naked Swans written by Carol Webster and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-08-19 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Naked Swans is a bittersweet anthology filled with poetry and fantasy short stories showcasing women's lives.During the writing of Naked Swans, I shared the work in progress with friends and critics. The following are two of my favorite responses. The strongest response was from a fellow worker. The night he read the manuscript he placed it on my desk, then started to leave. He said he was going to beat up my companion for me. I caught him as he was going out the door. Whoa I put an end to his actions immediately. Later, I found a friend from Florida crying after having read the first handwritten draft. She had identified so closely with what she had read that she was convinced that I had written about the events in her life. The story of the Naked Swans is about life maybe yours.

Book A Day in the Death of Intolerance

Download or read book A Day in the Death of Intolerance written by Marvel J. Warren, Sr. and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-04-17 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry in Marvel‘s point of view gives a person's mind a place to heal without incident - a place to be, an escape from life's daily entanglements and disappointments, culminating to that of “a lost soul begging for a bite or a hit or a taste or swig of something to make it through another moment.” In other words, if there is a definitive cure for misery and boredom, the “awe and wonder” found in poetry is the foundation on which it stands. The encapsulation of this idea is the driving force behind the series of poems called "A Day in the Death of Intolerance." The unique design, construction and intention of each poem combine with the others aim to create a sobriety so ever intoxicating it measures up to the listening of a person’s favorite songs. In this book, you will experience words capturing and reflecting life’s sounds, sights and feelings lifting off of printed pages to form perfectly shaped expressions to unravel the heaviness of a heart still grasping at words to communicate, per chance to be heard. In this book, you will also find lyrics crafted into phases promoting humility and harmony thus humanizing the conflicts caused by concepts that strain relationships. There is guidance throughout the book, generated by an extremely long “selection and placement” process to turn this series of poems into what can be considered an amazing poetic journey through time and space. These are poems that support mindfulness at the level of compassion that is required to remove personal disharmony and nourish the behavior behind effective communication. This book is a collection of 63 poems written in a variety of formats. The reader will, though requiring patience and a good-faith effort, start to appreciate and gain a fresh understanding of the difference between poetry and prose; this realization automatically inspires readers to witness the beauty of poetry that sits outside the "box" and purpose of prose – a box in which the mind is limited by a design to proliferate concepts for which we find our lives fixed or stuck. As a person progresses through this book, they will find themselves participating in a new, soft, awaking of their imagination. Such an awaking can tame the emotions springing forth from the annoyance of disappointment and distraction, thus leaving a person in the best of positions/attitudes to elicit from her or his environments the kind of support in which she or he has been searching. This book’s intention is to assist readers with being their own composers, their own groups/ bands/ orchestras and “iPhone-type-vendors” for tunes they enjoy. Poetry (reading and writing) is more than words borrowed from concepts to make a person think; it reaches beyond the borders between whatever purgatory one has to endure in this life and whatever heaven, there might be for each reader /writer – it is the finding of that missing thing, which enables continuous adventure, intrigue and joy as she or he learns to bathe “in the still quiet and forever waiting.”

Book Till Death Do Us Part

    Book Details:
  • Author : Salvatore G. Cilella
  • Publisher : University of Oklahoma Press
  • Release : 2020-05-07
  • ISBN : 0806166738
  • Pages : 348 pages

Download or read book Till Death Do Us Part written by Salvatore G. Cilella and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major General Emory Upton (1839–1881) served in all three branches of the U.S. military during the American Civil War. Lauded as a war hero, he later earned acclaim for his influence on military reforms, which lasted well beyond his lifetime. An account of Upton’s life is not complete, however, without a look into his brief, yet passionate, marriage to Emily Norwood Martin (1846–1870). This edition of Emory and Emily’s letters unveils the private life of a brilliant Civil War personality. It also introduces readers to the devout young woman who earned the general’s fanatic devotion before her untimely death from tuberculosis. Until now, only a few of the couple’s intimate letters have been published. During the years he spent editing and publishing Emory Upton’s correspondence, Salvatore G. Cilella Jr. deliberately set aside the general’s voluminous letters to his wife. Unfortunately, as Cilella explains in his editorial notes, Emily’s letters to Emory did not survive, but he was able to draw on the rich trove of letters Emily wrote to her mother and father while on her honeymoon and during her stays in Key West, Nassau, and Atlanta. Together, both sets of letters form a poignant narrative of the general’s tender love for his new wife and her reciprocal affection as they attempted to create a normal life together despite her declining health. The life of an army wife could be grueling, and despite her declining health, Emily longed to perform the role expected of her. It was not meant to be. Unwittingly, she and Emory chose the worst places for her to recover—Key West and Nassau—where the high humidity and heat must have exacerbated her difficulty breathing. She died in Nassau, far away from her husband. Eleven years later, racked by a sinus tumor and likely still grieving from his lost love, Upton committed suicide at the age of forty-one. Till Death Do Us Part offers a powerful—and poignant—tale of two star-crossed lovers against the backdrop of post–Civil War America. In addition, the volume gives readers a fascinating glimpse into gender roles and marital relations in the nineteenth century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspiration is like ice cream. There are many different flavors, but just one flavor is sometimes not enough to make you happy. Over the years, I have experienced seeing people become separated because of the dysfunctional circumstances created because of this odious word cheating. My firsthand account of cheating was with my dad, God bless his soul. He had cheated in perpetuation since I was seven years old and living with my stepmother. This beautiful woman never deserved to be cheated on. But what did I know? I grew up thinking only men cheat. I was wrong. You see, I loved my stepmom. She took good care of me because I never knew my real mom. All that I knew was that she died when I was two and a half years old. My stepmom was the love of my life. She was of the Catholic religion, and she could sing like a canary bird. My dad was so handsome that people called him Precious, a ladies man. He didnt think there was anything wrong with seeing other women because he was sowing his royal oats. In those days, men were treated like gods. They had the power. One day I said to myself, When I grow up, I want to be like my dad, in charge of my castle. My dads friend also had a beautiful wife. She resembled an East Indian with long straight hair. They were our neighbors, but she never worked, and he worked day and night. As a very hardworking man, he gave her the best of everything. I decided when I became a man I was going to be more like my dads friend.
