Book excerpt: A spy uncovers a political plot in 18tn century Vienna in this sequel to the acclaimed historical thriller Secretum—“another tour-de-force of derring do” (Historical Novel Society). Vienna, 1711. Atto Melani, a spy in the service of Louis XIV, arranges for his faithful helper to relocate from a Roman slum to the imperial court in Vienna. There, Atto enlists his help in a secret mission to bring about the end of the war between France and Austria. Meanwhile, a Turkish delegation has arrived in Vienna for talks with Emperor Joseph I—despite the fact that Austria is supposed to be at peace with the Ottoman Empire. When the emperor suddenly falls ill with smallpox and students are targeted by a serial killer, some fear that a centuries-old power struggle has been reignited. Can Atto and his helper prevent Europe from descending into all-out conflict? An unfinished palace known as the Place with No Name, an exotic menagerie and a fantastical Flying Ship are just some of the ingredients of this baroque spy novel.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louisiana Landmarks Society's Gateway to New Orleans: Bayou St. John, 1708-2018 traces the history and architecture of the historic Faubourg St. John in New Orleans, from pre-colonial days through its evolution from a glorious semi-rural village into a popular suburban neighborhood. Published to commemorate the tricentennial anniversary of the founding of New Orleans, this trek began years ago with editor Mary Louise Christovich's inaugural research and prescient vision of recording the history and architecture of this, the future city's first European settlement. Through rich narratives, scholarly research, and gripping historical accounts, the book transcends a mere architectural survey of the neighborhood. The boundaries of the historic Faubourg St. John set the parameters for coverage from the north side of Orleans to the south side of Esplanade Avenue and from the west side of North Broad to both banks of Moss Street. Personalities, as well as geographical and economic factors and architectural trends, are explored along the way, utilizing Orleans Parish's richly abundant and unique archival resources. Exquisite full-color photographs by Robert and Jan Brantley provide contemporary views of the neighborhood, supplementing the text and pairing with notarial drawings, historical photographs, and paintings to yield a visual understanding of the landscape of this bayou neighborhood and its influence on the establishment of the city. Without it, New Orleans would not exist where it does today.

Book Progress in Chemometrics Research

Download or read book Progress in Chemometrics Research written by Alexey L. Pomerantsev and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemometrics is the chemical discipline that uses mathematical, statistical and other methods employing formal logic: to design or select optimal measurement procedures and experiments, and -- to provide maximum relevant chemical information by analysing chemical data. Being conceived as a branch of analytical chemistry, chemometrics now is a general approach. It extracts relevant information out of measured data, regardless of their origin: chemical, physical, biological, etc. Chemometrics has been applied in different areas, and most successfully in multivariate calibration, pattern recognition, classification and discriminant analysis, multivariate modelling, and monitoring of processes. The main chemometric principle is a concept of hidden data structures that can be found using methods of multivariate data analysis. These are the well-known statistic tools such as partial least squares (PLS), soft independent modelling of class analogy (SIMCA), principal-component regression (PCR), wavelet analysis, and many others. Current activities of chemometricians fall into two main categories: (1) development of new methods for manipulating multivariate data and (2) new applications of the known chemometric techniques in different areas such as environment control, food industry, agriculture, medicine, and engineering.

Book MicroRNAs Cardiovacular Disease

Download or read book MicroRNAs Cardiovacular Disease written by Zhiguo Wang and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2010 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are known to play an important role in gene expression regulation. Owing to their ever-increasing implications in the control of various biological and pathological processes, miRNAs have now been considered novel biomarkers of various human diseases including, cancer, viral disease, cardiovascular disorders, metabolic disturbances, etc. Unique expression profiles have been associated with specific pathological states.Cardiovascular disease is among the main causes of mortality in developed countries. The pathological process of the heart is associated with altered expression profile of genes that are important for cardiac function. The implications of miRNAs in the pathological process of the cardiovascular system have recently been recognized, and the research on miRNAs in relation to cardiovascular disease is now in rapid progress. The aim of this ebook is to present updated research on the subject with analyses from published reports. Micro RNAs and Cardiovascular Disease caters to the growing interest and information needs of cardiac clinicians and gene expression researchers
