This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micromanufacturing and Nanotechnology is an emerging technological infrastructure and process that involves manufacturing of products and systems at the micro and nano scale levels. Development of micro and nano scale products and systems are underway due to the reason that they are faster, accurate and less expensive. Moreover, the basic functional units of such systems possesses remarkable mechanical, electronic and chemical properties compared to the macro-scale counterparts. Since this infrastructure has already become the prefered choice for the design and development of next generation products and systems it is now necessary to disseminate the conceptual and practical phenomenological know-how in a broader context. This book incorporates a selection of research and development papers. Its scope is the history and background, underlynig design methodology, application domains and recent developments.

Download or read book Out Here written by Tomasz Basiuk and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03-26 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out Here originates from a series of queer studies conferences which took place in Poland between 2002 and 2004, and includes essays, an autobiographical account, and two short stories. Their authors are of eight nationalities: Canadian, Belgian, Flemish, German, Hungarian, Polish, Spanish, Ukrainian, and U.S. American. The academic papers represent a wide range of disciplines: philosophy, literature, ethnography, cultural and gender studies. Some combine theoretical insights and critical analysis with suggestions for activism. The short stories explore the formative moments of a queer adolescence in Anglophone Canada. The eclecticism of Out Here reflects the cauldron-like mix of concerns taken up locally in places considered peripheral in relation to the centers of queer theory in British and American academia. It is out here (or back then), often within the context of rampant homophobia, that queer methodologies prove especially productive. Out here, queer theory is alive and kicking. Whether the authors write about sexual awakenings in Sri Lanka and Canada, or heterosexism in contemporary Ukraine, Hungary, Belgian parks, and 1970s Britain, or racial exclusion in American gay bars, or the veiled homophobia of Polish textbooks, what connects them is the commitment to questioning the limitations placed on queer desire.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of caged carbon structures, in 1985, established a whole new field of carbon chemistry. Unlike graphite and diamond, these structures known as fullerenes are finite in structure and are relevant to a wide variety of fields including supramolecular assemblies, nanostructures, optoelectronic devices and a whole range of biological activities. Fullerenes: Principles and Applications discusses all aspects of this exciting field. Sections include: the basic principles for the chemical reactivity of fullerenes, electrochemistry, light induced processes, fullerenes for material sciences, fullerenes and solar cells, biological applications and multifunctional carbon nanotube materials. Written by leading experts in the field the book summarises the basic principles of fullerene chemistry but also highlights some of the most remarkable advances that have occurred in recent years. Fullerenes: Principles and Applications will appeal to researchers in both academia and industry.

Book Ukraine

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sharon L. Wolchik
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 2000
  • ISBN : 9780847693467
  • Pages : 342 pages

Download or read book Ukraine written by Sharon L. Wolchik and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2000 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive book focuses on the challenges facing Ukraine as a newly emerged state after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Like all countries with no recent history of independence, Ukraine had to invent or recreate effective political institutions, reintroduce a market economy, and reorient its foreign policy. These tasks were impossible to accomplish without resolving the question of national identity. In this balanced and clear-eyed assessment, a team of U.S. and Ukrainian specialists explores the external and internal dimensions of national identity and statehood, providing a wealth of information previously unavailable to Western scholars. Arguing that the search for national identity is a multidimensional process, the authors show that it reflects the realities of the dawning twenty-first century. Paradoxically, this quest must cope with the both the weakening of state boundaries caused by globalization and the strengthening of the national model as new countries emerge from the disintegration of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. After providing the historical context of Ukraine's international debut, the book analyzes the complexities of constructing a national identity. The authors explore questions of ethnic relations and regionalism, the development of political values and attitudes, mass-elite relations, the cultural background of economic strategies, gender issues, and the threat of organized crime to emergent civil society.

Book Reading Literature and Theory at the Intersections of Queer and Class

Download or read book Reading Literature and Theory at the Intersections of Queer and Class written by Maria Alexopoulos and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-30 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading Literature and Theory at the Intersections of Queer and Class focuses on the crossover of queer and class, examining a range of texts across languages and genres and spanning nearly a century. This collection of chapters considers the intersection of queer and class in relation to literary aesthetics, a locus in which the interaction between sexuality and class is rendered with lucidity. Each chapter puts forward class and its manifestations as central to queer analysis of literary and cultural texts in historical and contemporary contexts. The readings adopt Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectional paradigm by pointing to its activist as well as literary precedents and elaborations. These chapters emerged from a long-standing collaboration among three Central European universities whose faculty and graduate students established a joint queer literature and theory research seminar. They are supplemented by a roundtable discussion in which the contributing authors and their colleagues discuss how the concepts of queer and class in theory and (academic) practice have informed their current and previous work. Reading Literature and Theory at the Intersections of Queer and Class is intended for scholars in gender and queer studies.
