Book Modest Beginnings High Aspirations A memoir of Skill Self development and Community Empowerment

Download or read book Modest Beginnings High Aspirations A memoir of Skill Self development and Community Empowerment written by Albert O. Ebo Richardson PHD and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2024-08-27 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acquiring skills and nurturing talents are attributes that must be inculcated and embraced in homes, schools, work, and play by children, young, and older adults alike everywhere in the world. The title of the book, Acquiring Skills and Nurturing Talent, chronicles my life story. It presents the details of my family experiences, education, work, and community engagement. I have worked and traveled extensively in America, Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Liberia), Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia (Singapore, China), and other parts of the world. The book illustrates the important role that acquiring skills and nurturing talents, such as technical skills, artistic skills, sports skills, language skills, and entrepreneurial skills, play in instilling self-development. They also facilitate community empowerment and contribute immensely toward the complex and difficult enterprise of nation building. Chapters 1 through 7 is the autobiographical narrative. In the remaining chapters 7 through 15, the book provides a group of lectures, presentations, and some prior publications, whose contents vividly and fully describe my activities. They offer tremendous insight into how I went about putting into practice my strong belief in the value of acquiring skills for the purpose of self-development, community empowerment, and nation building. Chapter 16 is a photo gallery of a portion of my larger extended family. They are spread around the world. It is said that "a picture is worth a thousand words." So I have included lots of pictures to bring the narratives to life.

Book Autism Spectrum Disorders in Adolescents and Adults

Download or read book Autism Spectrum Disorders in Adolescents and Adults written by Matt Tincani and published by Guilford Publications. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together leading experts, this book presents effective practices for helping people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) to thrive in adulthood. As individuals with ASD mature, their needs change as well. The book reviews the growing research base and describes ways to support adolescents and adults in succeeding in higher education and work, living independently, enjoying leisure activities, navigating meaningful personal relationships, and more. Specific behavioral and instructional interventions--such as functional communication training, positive behavior support, and applied behavior analysis--are discussed. Case examples illustrate practical aspects of applying the strategies in real-world school and community settings.

Book Educating Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Download or read book Educating Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders written by Dianne Zager and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Similar to a handbook in its comprehensive description of the theory and research supporting current practices in the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, this interdisciplinary text shows how the existing knowledge base can be used to explore promising new possibilities related to the field’s many unanswered questions. Key features include the following: Comprehensive – This is the first book to consider the history and current state of autism as a field in transition, to cover its varied approaches and philosophies, and to describe the interventions used throughout the developmental cycle. Cross Disciplinary – Serving students with autism necessitates communication and collaboration among professionals from several disciplines as well as family members. The editors have, therefore, brought together divergent perspectives, theories and philosophies in order to demonstrate that scientific evidence, rather than educational orientation, must determine which practices should be selected for use in particular situations. Research Based – Whereas many existing texts advocate a particular type of treatment, this one recognizes that interventions must be selected and evaluated based on the scientific evidence of their effectiveness. Integrated Methodology –Chapter authors consider findings from studies that employed single-subject designs, experimental large-scale studies, and qualitative methodology. The inter-relatedness of therapies and disciplines will be highlighted throughout. Expertise – The volume editors are all highly visible researchers in autism and developmental disabilities. Likewise, each chapter is directed by a senior, highly accomplished author who is nationally recognized for his/her work in the topic being addressed. This book is appropriate for practicing professionals in education and psychology and for speech/language therapists and other clinicians. It is also suitable as a graduate level text in these fields.
