  • Author : Hermann Haken
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06

Download or read book Laser Theory written by Hermann Haken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written by one of the pioneers of laser theory, is now considered a classic by many laser physicists. Originally published in the prestigious Encyclopedia of Physics series, it is now being republished in paperback to make it available not only to professors and scientists, but also to students. It presents a thorough treatment of the theory of laser resonators, the quantum theory of coherence, and the quantization of electromagnetic fields. Especial emphasis is placed on the quantum-mechanical treatment of laser light by means of quantum-mechanical Langevin equations, the density matrix equation, and the Fokker-Planck equation. The semiclassical approach and the rate equa tion approach are also presented. The principles underlying these approaches are used to derive the relevant equations, from which, in turn, the various properties of laser light are derived. Preface. The concept of the laser came into existence more than a decade ago when SCHAWLOW and TOWNES showed that the maser principle could be extended to the optical region. Since then this field has developed at an incredible pace which hardly anybody could have foreseen. The laser turned out to be a meeting place for such different disciplines as optics (e. g. spectroscopy). optical pumping, radio engineering, solid state physics, gas discharge physics and many other fields. The underlying structure of the laser theory is rather simple.

Book Basics of Laser Physics

Download or read book Basics of Laser Physics written by Karl F. Renk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-30 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides an introductory presentation of all types of lasers. It contains a general description of the laser, a theoretical treatment and a characterization of its operation as it deals with gas, solid state, free-electron and semiconductor lasers. This expanded and updated second edition of the book presents a description of the dynamics of free-electron laser oscillation using a model introduced in the first edition that allows a reader to understand basic properties of a free-electron laser and makes the difference to “conventional” lasers. The discussions and the treatment of equations are presented in a way that a reader can immediately follow. The book addresses graduate and undergraduate students in science and engineering, featuring problems with solutions and over 400 illustrations.

Book Introduction to Laser Physics with Applications in Fiber Optics

Download or read book Introduction to Laser Physics with Applications in Fiber Optics written by Steve Lee and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Laser Physics is intended to be a ""user-friendly"" presentation on laser theory. The primary goal in developing this material was to make the mechanisms behind lasing accessible to as wide an audience as possible, ranging from those with no prior exposure to Quantum Physics, to those with some grasp of the subject. To that end, the material has been structured with the more basic concepts and analogous examples at the outset. These basics are then refined as the material progresses, which includes a brief overview of laser applications in fiber optics. More advanced theoretical material is also included in the appendices, for those seeking additional insights and a greater depth. Hopefully most readers will find this more "user friendly" approach helpful, allowing each individual to explore the various aspects of lasers to whatever depth suits them.

Book Laser Physics

Download or read book Laser Physics written by Simon Hooker and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the interaction of radiation and matter, and the principles of laser operation are treated at a level suitable for fourth-year undergraduate courses or introductory graduate courses in physics, chemistry or engineering. The factors which determine efficiency, wavelength coverage, output power, and beam quality of the different classes of laser are treated both in terms of fundamental theory and practical construction aspects. Details of established types of solid-state, semiconductor, and gas lasers are examined together with the techniques that enable their output to be converted widely across the spectrum. The latest advances in high power fibre lasers, femtosecond lasers, and X-ray lasers are explained. The text is liberally illustrated with more than 300 diagrams. An extensive bibliography is provided, together with numerical problems in each chapter. Solutions are available via the web.
