Book The Stationary Semiconductor Device Equations

Download or read book The Stationary Semiconductor Device Equations written by P.A. Markowich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades semiconductor device simulation has become a research area, which thrives on a cooperation of physicists, electrical engineers and mathe maticians. In this book the static semiconductor device problem is presented and analysed from an applied mathematician's point of view. I shall derive the device equations - as obtained for the first time by Van Roosbroeck in 1950 - from physical principles, present a mathematical analysis, discuss their numerical solu tion by discretisation techniques and report on selected device simulation runs. To me personally the most fascinating aspect of mathematical device analysis is that an interplay of abstract mathematics, perturbation theory, numerical analysis and device physics is prompting the design and development of new technology. I very much hope to convey to the reader the importance of applied mathematics for technological progress. Each chapter of this book is designed to be as selfcontained as possible, however, the mathematical analysis of the device problem requires tools which cannot be presented completely here. Those readers who are not interested in the mathemati cal methodology and rigor can extract the desired information by simply ignoring details and proofs of theorems. Also, at the beginning of each chapter I refer to textbooks which introduce the interested reader to the required mathematical concepts.

Book Advances in Condition Monitoring of Machinery in Non Stationary Operations

Download or read book Advances in Condition Monitoring of Machinery in Non Stationary Operations written by Giorgio Dalpiaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-05 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the processing of the third edition of the Condition Monitoring of Machinery in Non-Stationary Operations (CMMNO13), which was held in Ferrara, Italy. This yearly event merges an international community of researchers who met – in 2011 in Wroclaw (Poland) and in 2012 in Hammamet (Tunisia) – to discuss issues of diagnostics of rotating machines operating in complex motion and/or load conditions. The growing interest of the industrial world on the topics covered by the CMMNO13 involves the fields of packaging, automotive, agricultural, mining, processing and wind machines in addition to that of the systems for data acquisition. The participation of speakers and visitors from industry makes the event an opportunity for immediate assessment of the potential applications of advanced methodologies for the signal analysis. Signals acquired from machines often contain contributions from several different components as well as noise. Therefore, the major challenge of condition monitoring is to point out the signal content that is related to the state of the monitored component particularly in non-stationary conditions.

Book An Introduction to the Theory of Point Processes

Download or read book An Introduction to the Theory of Point Processes written by D.J. Daley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-11-14 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Point processes and random measures find wide applicability in telecommunications, earthquakes, image analysis, spatial point patterns, and stereology, to name but a few areas. The authors have made a major reshaping of their work in their first edition of 1988 and now present their Introduction to the Theory of Point Processes in two volumes with sub-titles Elementary Theory and Models and General Theory and Structure. Volume One contains the introductory chapters from the first edition, together with an informal treatment of some of the later material intended to make it more accessible to readers primarily interested in models and applications. The main new material in this volume relates to marked point processes and to processes evolving in time, where the conditional intensity methodology provides a basis for model building, inference, and prediction. There are abundant examples whose purpose is both didactic and to illustrate further applications of the ideas and models that are the main substance of the text.

Book Practical Application of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography for Pharmaceutical Research and Development

Download or read book Practical Application of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography for Pharmaceutical Research and Development written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-12-02 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical Application of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography for Pharmaceutical Research and Development provides a valuable “go-to reference for many difficult-to-solve challenges using pertinent chromatographic theory, first-hand case studies, and examples provided from academic and industry experts. This text also enables professors teaching an analytical instrumental course to introduce and instruct students about one of the most sustainable and powerful separation methods currently available. While the text has broad applicability across industrial sectors, it focuses primarily on application in the pharmaceutical industry. The book is designed to allow readers to align current HPLC/UHPLC capabilities with SFC as an orthogonal tool for project specific methods in the pharmaceutical industry. It highlights where SFC falls on the spectrum of useful chromatographic tools for routine and challenging separative methods. Experienced HPLC users who are interested in developing knowledge in orthogonal separation techniques, as well as newcomers to the field of separation science, will find this text particularly useful. Chapters address where SFC may fit the analytical needs of the pharmaceutical industry and alert the readers as to where the technique will not fit. Readers will gain an understanding of how and where SFC may be applied and adapted more routinely across the pharmaceutical industry as a ‘green’ way of undertaking separation opportunities and challenges. Areas within the pharmaceutical industry include early drug discovery, process chemistry, and late stage development and manufacturing. Describes approaches to SFC column and mobile phase selection for method development for both analytical and preparative tasks Gives practical examples of how analytical SFC enables the monitoring of synthetic reactions including unstable intermediates, chiral and achiral polar reactants and products across small and large modalities Provides need-focused case studies for pharmaceutical analysts, process chemists, and contract chemistry facilities that can benefit from monitoring or purifying polar intermediates, mutagenic impurities, nitrosamines and other reaction by-products including excipients and metabolites
