Book Non Destructive Testing

Download or read book Non Destructive Testing written by B. HULL and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-03-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is of great importance that both individual components and complete engineer ing assemblies and structures are free from damaging defects and other possible causes of premature failure. A whole series of inspection instruments and tech niques has been evolved over the years and new methods are still being developed to assist in the process of assessing the integrity and reliability of parts and assemblies. Non-destructive testing and evaluation methods are widely used in industry for checking the quality of production, and also as part of routine inspec tion and maintenance in service. Despite the obvious importance of the subject, and the fact that most of the inspection methods are based on well-established scientific principles, there is a dearth of publications suitable for use as texts in our universities and colleges. The whole area of non-destructive testing receives scant attention in many engineering degree and diploma courses in the UK and this may be a consequence of a shortage of student texts. The authors, in producing this basic text, hope that it will prove useful to students on engineering courses and, possibly, act as a stimulus for the more widespread introduction of the subject into curricula.

Book Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Non destructive Testing

Download or read book Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Non destructive Testing written by J. Blitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to help satisfy an urgent requirement for up-to date comprehensive texts at graduate and senior undergraduate levels on the subjects in non-destructive testing (NDT). The subject matter here is confined to electrical and magnetic methods, with emphasis on the widely used eddy current and magnetic flux leakage methods (including particle inspection), but proper attention is paid to other techniques, such as microwave and AC field applications, which are rapidly growing in importance. Theoretical analyses relating to the various methods are discussed and the depths of presentation are often governed by whether or not the information is readily available elsewhere. Thus, for example, a considerable amount of space is devoted to eddy current theory at what the author considers to be a reasonable standard and not, as usually experienced, in either a too elementary manner or at a level appreciated only by a postgraduate theoretical physicist. The inclusion of the introductory chapter is intended to acquaint the reader with some of the philosophy of NDT and to compare, briefly, the relative performances of the more important methods of testing.

Book Advances in powder metallurgy

Download or read book Advances in powder metallurgy written by C. Selcuk and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powder metallurgy (PM) manufacture of parts is one of the most energy and material efficient forms of net-shape production, particularly, for automotive industry. PM allows repeatable mass production which makes it unique. However, it is well known that the quality of sintered parts can be variable. There can be typically around a 5% scrap rate in existing PM manufacturing lines. Current efforts are being made to develop non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques that will allow inspection of PM parts, notably sintered ones ideally in line with production to increase the quality of output batch and reduce scrap, as much as possible. This chapter presents an overview of non-destructive evaluation methods for PM components. It also seeks to capture latest NDT strategies such as digital radiography (DR) and identify apparent technology gaps in NDT of PM parts, in terms of applicability issues, with an emphasis on offering solutions to detection problems. It also seeks to highlight future work.

Download or read book Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Nondestructive Testing written by Jack Blitz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrical and Magnetic Methods of Nondestructive Testing presents a comprehensive account of the electrical and magnetic methods of nondestructive testing (NDT). The book begins with a discussion of the requirements for NDT and the criteria for the choice of a given method, followed by a summary of the general theory relating to electrical and magnetic testing techniques. Subsequent chapters discuss specific methods, including eddy current and flux-leakage techniques and microwave and potential drop methods. The appendix provides some useful programs for eddy current impedance analyses. These programs are in BASIC and can be run on PCs.

Book Practical Non destructive Testing

Download or read book Practical Non destructive Testing written by Baldev Raj and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive book covers the five major NDT methods - liquid penetrants, eddy currents, magnetic particles, radiography and ultrasonics in detail and also considers newer methods such as acoustic emission and thermography and discusses their role in on-line monitoring of plant components. Analytical techniques such as reliability studies and statistical quality control are considered in terms of their ability to reduce inspection costs and limit down time. A useful chapter provides practical guidance on selecting the right method for a given situation.

Book Handbook of Advanced Nondestructive Evaluation

Download or read book Handbook of Advanced Nondestructive Evaluation written by Nathan Ida and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is a comprehensive source of information on all aspects of non-destructive testing (NDT), for use by professionals, educators, and most of all, by the practitioners of testing. The art of NDT consists of dozens of methods, some classical, and some emerging. As the pace of industrial work and discovery intensifies and materials are utilized to their physical limits, the role of NDT becomes ever more important. As a result, the methods of testing are themselves evolving, and it is the intent of this book to capture this evolution. Handbook of Modern Non-Destructive Testing broadens the scope from traditional books on the subject. In addition to classical, emerging and exotic methods of evaluation, the book will also cover the use of NDT techniques in other fields, such as archaeology or resource exploration. With contributions from experts in all areas of the field, the reader will find balanced coverage of a variety of testing methods, with no bias against or endorsements of any particular method. The book treats many areas in depth, covering all aspects of testing, and will include case studies where appropriate. Additional coverage of statistical methods and their use, as well as simulations‘ role in testing and test design, are included.

Download or read book Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation NDE Methods written by Gerhard Huebschen and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods discusses NDT methods and how they are highly desirable for both long-term monitoring and short-term assessment of materials, providing crucial early warning that the fatigue life of a material has elapsed, thus helping to prevent service failures. Materials Characterization Using Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Methods gives an overview of established and new NDT techniques for the characterization of materials, with a focus on materials used in the automotive, aerospace, power plants, and infrastructure construction industries. Each chapter focuses on a different NDT technique and indicates the potential of the method by selected examples of applications. Methods covered include scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray microtomography and diffraction, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave, and hybrid techniques. The authors review both the determination of microstructure properties, including phase content and grain size, and the determination of mechanical properties, such as hardness, toughness, yield strength, texture, and residual stress. - Gives an overview of established and new NDT techniques, including scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray microtomography and diffraction, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, microwave, and hybrid techniques - Reviews the determination of microstructural and mechanical properties - Focuses on materials used in the automotive, aerospace, power plants, and infrastructure construction industries - Serves as a highly desirable resource for both long-term monitoring and short-term assessment of materials
