Book Basic Ecclesial Communities

Download or read book Basic Ecclesial Communities written by Alvaro Barreiro and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""This work is embarrassingly elementary, embarrassing for the reader, not the writer. Father Barreiro states with the power of simplicity the privileged place of the poor in the eyes of God and the mission of the church and presents the basic ecclesial communities as incarnations of that privilege. This is a short work well worth reading."" Philip J. Murnion, Director, The Parish Project, National Conference of Catholic Bishops ""The comunidades de base of Latin America have been giving me hope and inspiration for many years. Their roots are as ancient as the Gospel and their development in these times almost as spontaneous as the spread of Christianity in the early days of the Church. ""Unfortunately, Americans in general do not know the poverty in their own country and don't understand people who are poor anywhere. While they pour out money and supplies with enormous generosity whenever disasters of famine and earthquake and war are made known to them, most do not see the spiritual potential in the people in poverty in the United States and throughout the world whom they want so much to help. ""Leaders of America's churches, clergy and laity, of all denominations can learn this potential from Barreiro's book."" Norman C. Eddy, Coordinator, East Harlem Interfaith ""Father Barreiro combines solid scriptural and theological resources with first-hand knowledge of these communities themselves. ""The appearance in English of Fr. Barreiro's book is very timely. North American Christian communities need to be informed about the good news coming out of Latin America."" Allan Figueroa Deck, SJ, Director of Hispanic Ministry, Diocese of Orange in California Alvaro Barreiro, SJ, was Professor of Systematic Theology at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and is currently with the Centro de Espiritualidade Inciana de Itaici.

Book Basic Ecclesial Communities in Brazil

Download or read book Basic Ecclesial Communities in Brazil written by Marcello de Carvalho Azevedo and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Represents a major contribution to the understanding of the Catholic Church in the Third World. The focus is Brazil, but the issues touch the Church universally, providing it with a new and, to date, inadequately understood ecclesiological and missiological model. The author brings to this task not only his considerable skills as a social scientist and theologian, but also his many years of varied experience as a principal actor in the Brazilian Church, not only as a Jesuit provincial superior, but also as President and Executive Director of the nationwide Conference of Religious of Brazil. His book thus combines both theory and praxis.

Book Many Cells One Body

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ian M. Fraser

  • Release : 2003

  • Pages : 124 pages

Download or read book Many Cells One Body written by Ian M. Fraser and published by World Council of Churches. This book was released on 2003 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small Christian Communities (SCCs) are known by different terms in different regions. In earlier years, they were described as "grassroots communities" or "basic Christian communities". Today, they are called "house churches" in China, "home churches" in Australia, and "basic ecclesial communities" in Latin America. These close-knit groups of Christians function as bearers of good news and agents of hope in a troubled world. This book reflects a lifetime of interaction and correspondence with SCCs. In these extended families of fellowship and service, the author discerns the work of one Spirit in a multiplicity of circumstances. He demonstrates that each cell embodies the classic marks of a church that is one, holy, catholic and apostolic, yet he also shows that their form is remarkably flexible and radically non-hierarchical. He argues that this movement's departure from convention should be regarded not as a threat to traditional leadership but as a gift to the whole people of God.
