Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, two-phase flow and heat transfer problems associated with two-phase phenomena have been a challenge to many investigators. Two-phase flow applications are found in a wide range of engineering systems, such as nuclear and conventional power plants, evaporators of refrigeration systems and a wide vari ety of evaporative and condensive heat exchangers in the chemical industry. This publication is based on the invited lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on the Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer. The Horkshop was attended by more than 50 leading scientists and practicing engineers who work actively on two-phase flow and heat transfer research and applications in dif ferent sectors (academia, government, industry) of member countries of NATO. Some scientific leaders and experts on the subject matter from the non-NATO countries were also invited. They convened to discuss the state-of-the-art in two-phase flow and heat transfer and formulated recommendations for future research directions. To achieve these goals, invited key papers and a limited number of contributions were presented and discussed. The specific aspects of the subject were treated in depth in the panel sessions, and the unresolved problems identified. Suitable as a practical reference, these volumes incorporate a systematic approach to two-phase flow analysis.

Book Basic Aspects of Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer

Download or read book Basic Aspects of Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer written by V.K. Dhir and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades the research activity in the field of two phase flow and heat transfer has seen a continuing upward trend. Efforts in the development of new instruments, experimental techniques and analysis have brought forth new insights into the phenomena. The papers compiled in this volume reinforce this observation. These papers are to be presented in three sessions and cover a wide spectrum of research interests. Each of the sessions has seven papers. The first session contains papers on bubble condensation, oscillation frequency of bubbles condensing in a pool and growth of bubbles in a time dependent pressure field. There also are papers on dry out in a bottom heated bed of suspended particles, transition boiling on a vertical surface and liquid solid contacts in transition boiling. The last paper in this session compares results from several correlations for heat and mass transfer under entrained flow conditions. The papers in the second session are on nuclear reactor thermal hydraulic scaling criteria, unsteady two phase natural convection and on critical flow during flashing of subcooled liquid in nozzles. There are also two other papers on critical two phase flows and one each on analysis of density -wave oscillations and effect of sub cooling on dynamic instabilities in two phase flows. Most of the papers in the third session are on heat exchangers. The first paper deals with a fast running numerical method for solving two fluid equations in two dimensions and an application to flooding in certain nuclear reactor geometries. In the second paper crevice boiling in prototype steam generators is studies experimentally. The third paper deals with shift in the point of net vapor generation during transient flow boiling in a horizontal channel. The overall thermal hydraulic phenomena in horizontal steam generator pipes is studied in the fourth paper while the predictions of convective boiling heat transfer in serrated plate fin heat exchangers are made in the fifth paper. The last two papers deal with condensation in horizontal passages. The papers contained in this volume represent a good balance between basic studies and applications. The body of knowledge contained in these papers suggests a welcome shift from purely correlative approach to amore mechanistic approach. With this it seems we have moved one step closer to reality in describing the phase change processes, interfacial heat and mass transfer and various hydrodynamic aspects of two phase flow. We wish to express our appreciation of the efforts and contributions of the authors and the reviewers.

Book Two phase Flow and Heat Transfer

Download or read book Two phase Flow and Heat Transfer written by P. B. Whalley and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1996 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise and well illustrated book is intended for students of chemical and mechanical engineering. It is concerned exclusively with gas-liquid flows. The first part deals with adiabatic flows, that is, flows without the addition or removal of heat. The second part deals with heat-transfer in two-phase flows: boiling and condensation. The various types of heat transfer are identified and methods to calculate them given. Two-phase flow and heat transfer are commonly encountered in heat exchangers (distillation and condensation) and in pipelines, and are therefore fundamental to many industrial chemistry processes.

Book Annular Two Phase Flow

Download or read book Annular Two Phase Flow written by Geoffrey Hewitt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annular Two-Phase Flow presents the wide range of industrial applications of annular two-phase flow regimes. This book discusses the fluid dynamics and heat transfer aspects of the flow pattern. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the classification of the various types of interface distribution observed in practice. This text then examines the various regimes of two-phase flow with emphasis on the regions of occurrence of the annular flow regime. Other chapters consider the single momentum and energy balances, which illustrate the differences and analogies between single- and two-phase flows. This book discusses as well the simple modes for annular flow with consideration to the calculation of the profile of shear stress in the liquid film. The final chapter deals with the techniques that are developed for the measurement of flow pattern, entrainment, and film thickness. This book is a valuable resource for chemical engineers.
