Book Gradient Modelling

Download or read book Gradient Modelling written by S. R. Kessell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series is dedicated to serving the growing community of scholars and practitioners concerned with the principles and applications of environmen tal management. Each volume will be a thorough treatment of a specific topic of importance for proper management practices. A fundamental objective ofthese books is to help the reader discern and implement man's stewardship of our environment and the world's renewable resources. For we must strive to understand the relationship between man and nature, act to bring harmony to it and nurture an environment that is both stable and productive. These objectives have often eluded us because the pursuit of other indi vidual and societal goals has diverted us from a course of living in balance with the environment. At times, therefore, the environmental manager may have to exert restrictive control, which is usually best applied to man, not nature. Attempts to alter or harness nature have often failed or backfired, as exemplified by the results of imprudent use of herbicides, fertilizers, water and other agents. Each book in this series will shed light on the fundamental and applied aspects of environmental management. It is hoped that each will help solve a practical and serious environmental problem.

Book Vibrations of Power Plant Machines

Download or read book Vibrations of Power Plant Machines written by Franz Herz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-16 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers professionals working at power plants guidelines and best practices for vibration problems, in order to help them identify the respective problem, grasp it, and successfully solve it. The book provides very little theoretical information (which is readily available in the existing literature) and doesn’t assume that readers have an extensive mathematical background; rather, it presents a range of well-documented, real-world case studies and examples drawn from the authors’ 50 years of experience at jobsites. Vibration problems don’t crop up very often, thanks to good maintenance and support, but if and when they do, most power plants have very little experience in assessing and solving them. Accordingly, the case studies discussed here will equip power plant engineers to quickly evaluate the vibration problem at hand (by deciding whether the machine is at risk or can continue operating) and find a practical solution.

Book Computational Genomics with R

Download or read book Computational Genomics with R written by Altuna Akalin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Genomics with R provides a starting point for beginners in genomic data analysis and also guides more advanced practitioners to sophisticated data analysis techniques in genomics. The book covers topics from R programming, to machine learning and statistics, to the latest genomic data analysis techniques. The text provides accessible information and explanations, always with the genomics context in the background. This also contains practical and well-documented examples in R so readers can analyze their data by simply reusing the code presented. As the field of computational genomics is interdisciplinary, it requires different starting points for people with different backgrounds. For example, a biologist might skip sections on basic genome biology and start with R programming, whereas a computer scientist might want to start with genome biology. After reading: You will have the basics of R and be able to dive right into specialized uses of R for computational genomics such as using Bioconductor packages. You will be familiar with statistics, supervised and unsupervised learning techniques that are important in data modeling, and exploratory analysis of high-dimensional data. You will understand genomic intervals and operations on them that are used for tasks such as aligned read counting and genomic feature annotation. You will know the basics of processing and quality checking high-throughput sequencing data. You will be able to do sequence analysis, such as calculating GC content for parts of a genome or finding transcription factor binding sites. You will know about visualization techniques used in genomics, such as heatmaps, meta-gene plots, and genomic track visualization. You will be familiar with analysis of different high-throughput sequencing data sets, such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and BS-seq. You will know basic techniques for integrating and interpreting multi-omics datasets. Altuna Akalin is a group leader and head of the Bioinformatics and Omics Data Science Platform at the Berlin Institute of Medical Systems Biology, Max Delbrück Center, Berlin. He has been developing computational methods for analyzing and integrating large-scale genomics data sets since 2002. He has published an extensive body of work in this area. The framework for this book grew out of the yearly computational genomics courses he has been organizing and teaching since 2015.

Each chapter is contributed by a well-known authority in the field and contains illustrative examples. Topics covered include: * The numerical issues * Geometry description of microwave structures * Methods to reduce the requirements for excessive computational resources * Parallel and vector processing All the topics covered in this book are essential components for successful application of the FDTD method to realistic structures."

Book Exploratory Data Analysis with R

Download or read book Exploratory Data Analysis with R written by Roger Peng and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the essential exploratory techniques for summarizing data with R. These techniques are typically applied before formal modeling commences and can help inform the development of more complex statistical models. Exploratory techniques are also important for eliminating or sharpening potential hypotheses about the world that can be addressed by the date you have. We will cover in detail the plotting systems in R as well as some of the basic principles of contructing informative data graphics. We will also cover some of the common multivariate statistical techniques uses to visualize high-dimensional data. Some of the topics we cover are making exploratory graphs, principles of analytic graphics, plotting systems and graphics devices in R, the base and ggplot2 plotting systems in R, clustering methods, and dimension reduction techniques. Book Spatial Data Science

Download or read book Spatial Data Science written by Edzer Pebesma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spatial Data Science introduces fundamental aspects of spatial data that every data scientist should know before they start working with spatial data. These aspects include how geometries are represented, coordinate reference systems (projections, datums), the fact that the Earth is round and its consequences for analysis, and how attributes of geometries can relate to geometries. In the second part of the book, these concepts are illustrated with data science examples using the R language. In the third part, statistical modelling approaches are demonstrated using real world data examples. After reading this book, the reader will be well equipped to avoid a number of major spatial data analysis errors. The book gives a detailed explanation of the core spatial software packages for R: sf for simple feature access, and stars for raster and vector data cubes – array data with spatial and temporal dimensions. It also shows how geometrical operations change when going from a flat space to the surface of a sphere, which is what sf and stars use when coordinates are not projected (degrees longitude/latitude). Separate chapters detail a variety of plotting approaches for spatial maps using R, and different ways of handling very large vector or raster (imagery) datasets, locally, in databases, or in the cloud. The data used and all code examples are freely available online from https://r-spatial.org/book/. The solutions to the exercises can be found here: https://edzer.github.io/sdsr_exercises/.
