Book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity

Download or read book Ferroelectric Materials and Ferroelectricity written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a joint effort of the Research Materials Information Center (RMIC) of the Solid State Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Libraries and Information Systems Center at Bell Telephone Laboratories (BTL) Murray Hill, N. J. The Research Materials Information Center has, since 1963, been answering inquiries on the avail ability, preparation, and properties of inorganic solid-state research materials. The preparation of bibliographies has been essential to this function, and the interest in ferroelectrics led to the compila tion of the journal and report literature on that subject. The 1962 book Ferroelectric Crystals, by Jona and Shirane, was taken as a cutoff point, and all papers through mid-1969 received by the Center have been included. The Libraries and Information Systems Center of BTL has, over a period of years, developed a proprie tary package of computer programs called BELDEX, which formats and generates indexes to biblio graphic material. This group therefore undertook to process RMIC's ferroelectric references by BELDEX so that both laboratories could have the benefit of an indexed basic bibliography in this important research area.

Book Ferroelectrics Literature Index

Download or read book Ferroelectrics Literature Index written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on ferroelectricity and ferroelectric materials started in 1920 with the discovery by Valasek that the variation of spontaneous polarization in Rochelle salt with sign and magnitude of an applied electric field traced a complete and reproducible hysteresis loop. Activity in the field was sporadic until 1935, when Busch and co-workers announced the observation of similar behavior in potassium dihydrogen phosphate and related compounds. Progress thereafter continued at a modest level with the undertaking of some theoretical as well as further experimental studies. In 1944, von Hippel and co-workers discovered ferroelectricity in barium titanate. The technological importance of ceramic barium titanate and other perovskites led to an upsurge of interest, with many new ferroelectrics being identified in the following decade. By 1967, about 2000 papers on various aspects of ferroelectricity had been published. The bulk of this widely dispersed literature was concerned with the experimental measurement of dielectric, crystallographic, thermal, electromechanical, elastic, optical, and magnetic properties. A critical and excellently organized cpmpilation based on these data appeared in 1969 with the publica tion of Landolt-Bornstein, Volume 111/3. This superb tabulation gave instant access to the results in the literature on nearly 450 pure substances and solid solutions of ferroelectric and antiferroelectric materials. Continuing interest in ferroelectrics, spurred by the growing importance of electrooptic crystals, resulted in the publication of almost as many additional papers by the end of 1969 as had been surveyed in Landolt-Bornstein.

Book Improved Non Linear Dielectrics for Electronic Tuning

Download or read book Improved Non Linear Dielectrics for Electronic Tuning written by Howard Wichansky and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NG INFLUENCE OF THE GRAIN SIZE OF BARIUM STRONTIUM TITANATE ON THE PERMITTIVITY RATIO, THE VARIATION OF PERMITTIVITY WITH SUPERIMPOSED DC BIAS, IS PRESENTED AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE. A 10-fold decrease in permittivity with 80 v/mil dc bias was obtained at the Curie temperature of a ceramic with coarse grains. The mechanisms responsible for the field dependent change in permittivity, namely a field induced paraelectric to ferroelectric transition and a domain alignment process, are re-examined in the light of recent findings stressing the influence of microstructure. The frequency response of dissipation factor is also included along with the proposed mechanisms that account for the observed behavior. Satisfactory performance of the non-linear dielectrics in tuning devices is possible within a constant temperature environment and a frequency range of 3 to 30 MHz. (Author).

Book Titanate Based Ceramic Dielectric Materials

Download or read book Titanate Based Ceramic Dielectric Materials written by R. Saravanan and published by Materials Research Forum LLC. This book was released on 2018-02-25 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barium titanate is one of the most important electronic materials; due to its high permittivity, low dielectric loss and high tunability. The environment friendly material is suitable for microphones and microwave device applications such as tunable capacitors, delay lines, filters, resonators and phase shifters. Doped titanates are extensively used for various electronic devices, such as transducers, piezoelectric actuators, passive memory storage devices, dynamic random access memory (DRAM), multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), positive temperature coefficient resistors (PTCR), optoelectronic devices and infrared sensors. The book presents research results concerning the electron density distribution in a number of doped barium titanate ceramic materials using experimental X-ray diffraction data, UV-visible spectrophotometry (UV-vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The analysis of interatomic bonding and electron density distribution is important for predicting the properties of potentially important materials and has previously been lacking for the materials studied. Barium Titanate, Barium Titanate Doping, Dielectric Ceramics, Permittivity, Tunability, Transducers, Piezoelectric Actuators, Memory Storage Devices, Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors, Optoelectronic Devices, X-Ray Diffraction Data, UV-Visible Spectrophotometry, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, Interatomic Bonding, Electron Density Distribution, Ceramic Property Predictions.

Book Radio Frequency Applications of Barium Strontium Titanate Thin Film Tunable Capacitors

Download or read book Radio Frequency Applications of Barium Strontium Titanate Thin Film Tunable Capacitors written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Properties of thin film barium strontium titanate (BST) based capacitors for RF and microwave components were studied. The capacitors were measured for their tunability, loss tangent, frequency dependence of dielectric permittivity, and behavior at large RF signal amplitudes. A nonlinear equivalent circuit model for tunable BST capacitors was developed. Analysis of a tunable low pass filter fabrication using BST capacitors along with its intermodulation distortion measurements was given. Several simulations for bandpass filters were performed. Furthermore, a periodically loaded coplanar waveguide phase shifter utilizing the BST capacitors was designed.

Book Ferroelectrics and Their Applications

Download or read book Ferroelectrics and Their Applications written by Husein Irzaman and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferroelectricity is a symptom of inevitable electrical polarization changes in materials without external electric field interference. Ferroelectricity is a phenomenon exhibited by crystals with a spontaneous polarization and hysteresis effects associated with dielectric changes when an electric field is given. Our fascination with ferroelectricity is in recognition of a beautiful article by Itskovsky, in which he explains the kinetics of a ferroelectric phase transition in a thin ferroelectric layer (film). We have been researching ferroelectric materials since 2001. There are several materials known for their ferroelectric properties. Barium titanate and barium strontium titanate are the most well known. Several others include tantalum oxide, lead zirconium titanate, gallium nitride, lithium tantalate, aluminium, copper oxide, and lithium niobate. There is still a blue ocean of ferroelectric applications yet to be expounded. It is and hopefully always will be a bright future.

Book Design and Optimization of Barium Strontium Titanate Ferroelectric Varactors

Download or read book Design and Optimization of Barium Strontium Titanate Ferroelectric Varactors written by Hailing Yue and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barium-Strontium-Titanate (BST) thin film based varactors are designed at specific capacitances under 0V dc bias on CMOS compatible low-resistivity silicon substrate. The BST varactor device operation is based on the nonlinear dielectric tunability of BST thin film sandwiched between two metal layers in a revised conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CBCPW) transmission line configuration. The varactor capacitance at 0V dc bias is determined by the overlap area between the CPW signal line in the top metal electrode and a tapered shunt line in the bottom electrode. Therefore a series of devices with fixed 0 V capacitances ranging were designed and fabricated based on changing their corresponding overlap areas according to the original parallel plate capacitance equation. A schematic model is also utilized to extract the designed and measured capacitances. The relationship between the sizes of overlap areas and the extracted capacitances from the electromagnetic and schematic models is demonstrated by a reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements from fabricated devices.
