Download or read book Barcelona Enchanting City written by Nicola Jane Mabbott and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barcelona – Enchanting City is a new illustrated children’s guidebook to the magical capital city of Catalonia, Spain. The colourful guide is divided into nine chapters, each written in a contemporary, poetic style which should fascinate and encourage curiosity in readers from the age of nine upwards. There are chapters on the legendary La Rambla, Camp Nou – FC Barcelona’s fantastic football ground, Montjuïc, the ’92 Olympic Games and much, much more... The poetical style of the chapters makes it easier for children (including less-motivated learners) to remember the information and new or difficult words, while developing a fascination for language. Each chapter even has its own set of four fun quiz cards which can be used with friends. There is also a glossary which gives curious readers more information about places and expressions in the text. The author has been writing texts and materials for teaching the English language since 2011.

Download or read book Thinking Barcelona written by Edgar Illas and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thinking Barcelona studies the ideologies that redefined Barcelona during the 1980s and helped the city adapt to a new economy of tourism, culture, and services. Looking specifically at the lead-up to the 1992 Olympic Games and the urban renewal geared toward establishing Barcelona as a happy combination of European cosmopolitanism and Mediterranean rootedness, Edgar Illas situates Barcelona as a key example of contemporary urban rebranding after the fall of communism and the establishment of the neoliberal “end of history.” Looking at a host of materials associated with the games as well as contemporary architectural and literary works, he offers a compelling look at postmodern globalization as it manifests itself through urban regeneration.

Download or read book Spanish Language Lessons written by Sergio Rodriguez and published by White Flower Publishing. This book was released on 2019-03-18 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wanted to visit a Spanish country and be able to speak Spanish? Traveling in Spanish countries can be hard. Believe me, I'm a frequent traveler, and I've been all around the world. I've been in Europe, Asia, and South America, and I have to say that of all the places that I've been, I've never found more caring and lovely people than in Spanish countries. Maybe it is their past, maybe is their language, but they are always available to give you a hand, talk to you, have fun, grab a drink, and generally have a good time. But the language barrier might be hard. You might find yourself trying to say something, and the interlocutor understanding another thing entirely. It might be quite frustrating, and then you end up using your fingers or pointing to what you want, and to be honest, it's quite ridiculous and a bit childish. Sometimes, you might be lucky and find someone nearby who understands English, and that works for the moment, but what if there's no one there? What if you want a burger without cheese? Or maybe you want a diet Coke, not regular, because you don't consume sugar? Or, leaving aside the food matters (which are quite important!), let's say that you want to book a hotel room, but you don't want to spend too much, and obviously, you don't want to pay for things that you don't need. So there goes the Jacuzzi, or the HD television. And you have to make yourself clear, that you don't want that, without using insults and pointing to the things that you don't want. That's why I'm writing this book, to help you on your travels, so if you want to take a trip to a Spanish Country, you won't find it hard to express yourself. And I will not just explain you some phrases in Spanish to ease your life in your trip, I will also teach the differences between countries, and how to travel from one place to another. So, if you were planning a trip, or maybe you are already in one and found yourself in a problem, this is the book for you. I hope it helps you with anything that might arise on your trip. Get your copy now!

Download or read book An Enchanted Valley written by Edward Harper and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Enchanted Valley is a wonderfully vivid trip through rural France with author Edward Harper and his cultural historian lover as they search for peace, tranquility, and beauty. We had been in the village for six years now. The house was finished. We knew every nook and cranny of the area within a twenty-mile radius. The ebb and flow of the village had become a part of our lives each summer. The ten-year-old daughter of the lascivious school teacher had bloomed into a voluptuous teenager whose boyfriends roared into the village on scooters. Maurin's little dog no longer appeared on our doorsteps as his house stood shuttered and empty, the center of a vicious fight over the inheritance. But much remained the same. Every year the chatelain celebrated his birthday with a picnic and barbecue on the edges of his exotic forest. An immense pig was roasted over a pit and more than a hundred people attended, a mixture of his military comrades including the retired colonel of the regiment and some aging, but still menacing looking, paratroopers in their red berets. Gallons of Burdic in unmarked bottles chilled in ice-filled barrels stood next to tables with great washtubs of salad and gardianne, the superb spiced stew of the region.
