Book Authentic Traditional Memphis Tennessee Recipes

Download or read book Authentic Traditional Memphis Tennessee Recipes written by Laura Sommers and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-05-29 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memphis, Tennessee Recipes Memphis, Tennessee is more than just Elvis Presley and Barbecue Ribs. Memphis is part of Shelby County Tennessee and sits on the Mississippi River as part of the Mississippi Delta on a bluff (high ground) called a "Chickasaw Bluff." The cuisine consists of its own distinct version of BBQ along with blends of Southern styles and Soul Food. Celebrities such as Elvis Presley, Al and Tipper Gore and Tennessee Ernie Ford have also made their own contributions to the Memphis Style cuisine. Memphis style barbecue is one of the top four styles of barbecue popular in the United States, the other three being Carolina, Kansas City and Texas. The Memphis style of barbecue is distinguished by using pork that has been smoked in a smoker over a long period of time: usually several hours. The sauce is typically a dry rub for the ribs but wet sauce is also used for sandwiches and other nontraditional dishes such as pizza, spaghetti and nachos. Memphis holds an annual Barbecue Festival on the banks of the Mississippi River blocks away from Beale Street. Beale Street is a touristy street in the heart of Memphis that is a lot like a mini Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. There are many restaurants and pubs located along Beale Street including the famous Rendezvous and Peabody Hotel where trained ducks come down the elevator every morning to festive music while a red carpet is rolled out to lead them to the large fountain in the lobby. The red carpet is again rolled out for them to go back to the elevator and led to the roof of the hotel where they are kept at night. This book is a collection of recipes that I feel truly represent Memphis style cooking after living there for a number of years. I hope that you enjoy! Recipes Around the World! Other mouth watering cookbooks in this series include: Philadelphia: Super Awesome Traditional Philadelphia Recipes Maryland:Super Awesome Traditional Maryland Recipes Ireland: Best Traditional Irish Recipes for St. Patrick's Day Amish: Authentic Traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Amish and Mennonite Recipes New Orleans: Best Traditional Cajun and Creole Recipes from New Orleans Recipes Include: Memphis Style Coleslaw Tennessee Mud Tennessee Whiskey Balls Memphis Dry Rib Rub Mississippi Delta Baked Chicken Tennessee Cornbread Tennessee Cornbread Salad Memphis Baked Beans Memphis Style Wet Barbecue Sauce Tennessee Icebox Cookies Memphis Sausage and Cheese Platter Southern Fried Chicken Memphis Fried Pork Chops Memphis Country Ham and Red-Eye Gravy Memphis Barbecue Shrimp Chili Beale Street Fried Chitterlings (Chitlins) Memphis Red-Eye Gravy Elvis Presley Peanut Butter Banana and Bacon Sandwich Elvis Presley Blue Hawaiian Cocktail Elvis Presley Clam Bake Shelby County Southern Fried Green Tomatoes Southern Fried Catfish Southern Remoulade Sauce Mid-South Hush Puppies Memphis Style Pizza Memphis Style Barbecue Spaghetti Beale Street Buttermilk Biscuits Roast Beef Memphis Melt Memphis Pork Butt on a Stick Memphis Pulled Pork Nachos Memphis Pulled Pork Sandwich Memphis Barbecue Smoked Ribs with Dry Rub

Book Celebrating Barbecue

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dotty Griffith
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2010-06-15
  • ISBN : 1439142084
  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book Celebrating Barbecue written by Dotty Griffith and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like jazz, barbecue is a uniquely American original, and few subjects ignite more passion, excitement, controversy, and competition. In Celebrating Barbecue, Dotty Griffith, restaurant critic for The Dallas Morning News, gives readers the lowdown on real barbecue, identifying the four great regional styles of American 'cue (Carolina, Memphis, Texas, and Kansas City), as well as what Griffith calls "micro-styles" like Santa Maria Beef Barbecue or St. Louis Barbecued Snouts. Though reducing barbecue to a set of rules and specifications is, as Griffith says, "like teaching a cat to bark," Celebrating Barbecue attempts (and succeeds!) in doing just that, beginning with the history of barbecue, defining each region's preferences for meat, fuel, and seasonings. There are classic authentic recipes for slow-cooked meats such as Texas Brisket and North Carolina-Style Pulled Pork, with cooking temperatures, seasonings, woods, and techniques (including fail-safe techniques for bad weather or uncooperative equipment or fuels) explained in detail. Griffith includes recipes for mops, rubs, sauces, and marinades, as well as sources for ready-made flavor enhancers. A full complement of appetizers, sides, and desserts rounds out the more than 85 recipes. Menus are provided for each regional style so you can create your own barbecue feast. Travelers will find lists of barbecue restaurants, cook-offs, and festivals, and stay-at-homes will find the best places to mail-order 'cue, as well as a directory of pit masters and a section on cookers. Opinionated and informed, Celebrating Barbecue is written with wit, passion, and verve. A pleasure to read and to cook from, it's the only book you'll need to enjoy this most American of foods.

  • Publisher : Andrews McMeel Publishing
  • Release : 2016-05-10
  • ISBN : 1449479103
  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Smokin Hot in the South written by Melissa Cookston and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room shares more than eighty-five Southern-influenced recipes enhanced with the cultural flavors of Mexico, France, and Asia. Melissa Cookston, the “winningest woman in barbecue,” judge on the Netflix hit, American Barbecue Showdown, and the only female, seven-time barbecue world champion is bringing the heat with her second cookbook. With the grill and smoker as her go-to tools, chef Melissa Cookston—named “One of the most influential pitmasters in America” by Fox News, and one of the “25 Super Women in Business” by the Memphis Business Journal in 2015—shares her all-new, modern interpretations of traditional Southern ingredients and recipes. Melissa explains how the culinary traditions of the South—long a bastion of slow-simmered vegetables and deep-fried everything—have expanded in the last decade to embrace Southwestern flavors, Asian spices, and the French palate. The nine chapters venture beyond the competition and barbecue principles of her first book and focus on instilling flavor with fire, using fresh herbs, and diversifying seasoning components in recipes that reflect the New South. She fire-roasts homegrown green tomatoes for a spicy take on a traditional pizza sauce and uses a barbecue smoker to add Southern nuance to porchetta. Also included are recipes for Butterbean Pate, Asian Pork Tenderloin with Watermelon Rind Pickles and Minted Watermelon Salad, Deep South Burgers with Pimento Cheese and more. She also covers the tools, techniques, and ingredients needed to be successful grilling or smoking at home. This book will not leave you hungry!
