Book The Enlightened are Not Bound by Religion

Download or read book The Enlightened are Not Bound by Religion written by Kevser Yesiltash and published by Bookcity.Co. This book was released on 2017-08-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mystical teachings of Ibn ‘Arabi, particularly influential in Anatolia, are rooted in a tens-of-thousands-of-years old knowledge attainment and transfer tradition, which is one of the fundamental cornerstones of Sufism. Through his unique method, Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi performed an unparalleled role in conveying the secrets of the Sufi mystical teachings across the generations. The secrets concealed in his teachings are not immediately revealed, and the knowledge they contain is hidden in such language that those who encounter it are often left in a state of shock and bewilderment. Those who strived to understand this language have been able to discover the real meaning hidden within, yet the majority, without making such an effort, took the meaning at face value and accused Ibn ‘Arabi of being anti-religious. The title of this book, ‘The Enlightened are Not Bound by Religion’, is one of Arabi’s notable sayings. To be able to understand just this saying requires knowledge of many subjects of the mystical teachings. Kevser Yesiltash explores the deep of mystical secrets of his saying in the book.

Book The Gender Imperative

Download or read book The Gender Imperative written by Betty A. Reardon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book asserts that human security derives from the experience and expectation of human well-being which depends on four essential conditions: a life sustaining environment, the meeting of essential physical needs, respect for the identity and dignity of persons and groups, protection from avoidable harm and expectations of remedy from them. The book demonstrates their integral relationship to human security. Patriarchy being the germinal paradigm from which most major human institutions such as the state, the economy, organised religions and social relations have evolved, the book argues that fundamental inequalities must be challenged for the sake of equality and security. The fundamental point raised is that expectation of human well-being is a continuing cause of armed conflict which constitutes a threat to peace and survival of all humanity and human security cannot exist within a militarised security system. The editors of the book bring together 14 essays which critically examine militarised security in order to find human security pathways, show ways in which to refute the dominant paradigm, indicate a clear gender analysis that challenges the current system, and suggests alternatives to militarised security. With a mix of female and male feminist scholar activists as contributors, the book makes an important contribution to a new discourse on human security.

Book An Oral History of the Palestinian Nakba

Download or read book An Oral History of the Palestinian Nakba written by Doctor Nahla Abdo and published by Zed Books Ltd.. This book was released on 2018-05-15 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2018, Palestinians mark the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, when over 750,000 people were uprooted and forced to flee their homes in the early days of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Even today, the bitterness and trauma of the Nakba remains raw, and it has become the pivotal event both in the shaping of Palestinian identity and in galvanising the resistance to occupation. Unearthing an unparalleled body of rich oral testimony, An Oral History of the Palestinian Nakba tells the story of this epochal event through the voices of the Palestinians who lived it, uncovering remarkable new insights both into Palestinian experiences of the Nakba and into the wider dynamics of the ongoing conflict. Drawing together Palestinian accounts from 1948 with those of the present day, the book confronts the idea of the Nakba as an event consigned to the past, instead revealing it to be an ongoing process aimed at the erasure of Palestinian memory and history. In the process, each unique and wide-ranging contribution leads the way for new directions in Palestinian scholarship.

Book excerpt: Disruption following the Gulf War, and the need to satisfy both rising economic aspirations and the Islamic values of the region's peoples, demands fresh examination of development issues in the Arab world. This introductory text assesses how agricultural, industrial and urban development has evolved in the Arab region. Contrasting Arab and Western interpretations of `development', it draws on case studies covering states as diverse as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Morocco and Jordan. The author suggests that until the Arabs define their own identity, there will continue to be `change' but not necessarily `progress' in the region.

Book Many Paths One Goal

Download or read book Many Paths One Goal written by J. P. Vaswani and published by Gita Publishing House. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are not found to be wanting in loyalty to our faiths; the problem is to cultivate a healthy respect for what others believe! This is a worthy aim which Dada J.P. Vaswani can surely help you achieve with this balanced, thoughtful work, written in the true Indian spirit of reverence and appreciation for all approaches to Truth and Divinity. The author presents each religion as a precious jewel embellished in the crown of world civilization. Whether it is Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Baha’ism, Sufism or Zoroastrianism, the individual artefact is distinct, precious and unique. But the sub-stratum of belief that is at the core of their structure is eternal and unchanging: faith in the One God and the unity and fellowship of all Creation. And running as a golden thread through them all is the ultimate law which every faith never ever fails to emphasise: Do nothing that may cause pain to others. Here is a book which will reinforce your faith in humanity and help you become aware of what Vedanta emphasises: the One behind the Many, the Single Divinity behind the multiplicity of thought and creation.

Book Politics and Economy in Jordan

Download or read book Politics and Economy in Jordan written by Rodney Wilson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jordan occupies centre stage in both Middle Eastern and Arabic politics, yet the kingdom itself is comparatively under-researched. This volume contains contributions from some of Jordan's most respected academics in the field of geography, economics and political science. A number of international specialists in Jordan have also made valuable contributions. The work covers important aspects of the Jordanian economic and political scene which have not yet been written about in English. Aspects of Jordan's consumer society are examined, including the question of foreign aid support, the role of the private sector, and the demand for consumer durables. The economic vulnerability which an open consumer society faces is illustrated in the chapter on the balance of payments and inflation. Despite economic and political problems, it is argued that Jordan has exhibited a certain economic resilience and that a national identity has been successfully fostered.

Download or read book Palestine and Rule of Power written by Alaa Tartir and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-22 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how the rule of power relates to the case of occupied Palestine, examining features of local dissent and international governance. The project considers expressions of the rule of power in two particular ways: settler colonialism and neoliberalism. As power is always accompanied by resistance, the authors engage with and explores forms of everyday resistance to the logics and regimes of neoliberal governance and settler colonialism. They investigate wide-ranging issues and dynamics related to international governance, liberal peacebuilding, statebuilding, and development, the claim to politics, and the notion and practice of resistance. This work will be of interest for academics focusing on modern Middle Eastern politics, international relations, as well as for courses on contemporary conflicts, peacebuilding, and development.

Book Gender and Nation Building in the Middle East

Download or read book Gender and Nation Building in the Middle East written by Elise G. Young and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Mandate Palestine to refugee camps in Jordan today, generations of Palestinians have been affected by the reach of the state into their everyday lives. Here Elise Young offers an analysis of the politics of state building in the Middle East, viewed through the lens of health. Young argues that gendered, raced and classed constructions of health, as evidenced in malaria eradication campaigns and the regularization of midwifery, are central to such state building processes. She draws on archival documents to uncover British medical administration and American involvement during the Mandate, and in-depth oral histories of Palestinian women refugees in Jordan. Making a powerful case for an alternative historiography of the region, this book will be invaluable for all those interested in Middle East history and politics, nationalism, gender, public health and refugees.
