Download or read book Coordinating Technology written by Susanne K. Schmidt and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Coordinating Technology, Susanne Schmidt and Raymund Werle present three case studies that highlight the actors, the process, the politics, and the influence exerted by international organizations in the construction of standards. The case studies concern the standards for facsimile terminals and transmission, videotex (a service that, with the exception of the French Minitel service, largely failed), and electronic mail. Schmidt and Werle follow each story from the realization by certain actors of the need for a standard, through complex negotiation processes involving many economic, political, and social interests, to the final agreement on a standard. In their analysis of these cases, they emphasize the many ways in which the processes are embedded in institutional structures and argue for the value of an institutionalist approach to technology studies.

Book excerpt: Involving both integration and liberalization, the state of telecommunications in Europe has undergone radical change in the past few years. Natalicchi (political science, U. of Florence, Italy) examines the external and internal forces of change originating from international, national, and European Union levels. He argues that the EU is a polycentric and multilayered polity and that multiple mechanisms determine integrative steps and policy outcomes. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Download or read book Scherer telecommuni written by Joachim Scherer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1993-03-23 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Telecommunications laws provide the tools for the privatisation of state-owned telecommunications enterprises, for the liberalisation of the provision of telecommunications networks, services and terminal equipment and for the increasing pan-European harmonisation of the regulatory framework. In the European Community, the evolving EC law of Telecommunications increasingly shapes and influences the national telecommunications legislation of EC Member States, as the Commission of the European Community pursues its dual policy of liberalising the telecommunications markets and, simultaneously, harmonising its regulatory framework. It is these steady and relentless changes in telecommunications laws in the European Community together with the dramatic developments in Central and Eastern Europe which have made a second, enlarged edition of "Telecommunications Laws in Europe" necessary. The contributions in this book have been prepared by members of the European Telecommunications Law Practice Group of Baker & McKenzie. They describe and analyse the national telecommunications laws of Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the Russian Federation, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, using the emerging EC telecommunications law as a frame of reference.
Download or read book StarBriefs 2001 written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation probably looks like one of the craziest things a human being could spend his or her time on. Yet nobody would wonder at someone taking a short walk every day - after twenty five years that person would have covered a surprisingly long distance. This is exactly the story behind this list, which appeared first as a few pages within the directory StarGuides (or whatever name it had at that time) and as a distinct sister publication since 1990. The idea behind this dictionary is to offer astronomers and related space scientists practical assistance in decoding the numerous abbreviations, acronyms, contractions and symbols which they might encounter in all aspects of the vast range of their professional activities, including traveling. Perhaps it is a bit paradoxical, but if scientists quickly grasp the meaning of an acronym solely in their own specific discipline, they will probably encounter more difficulties when dealing with adjacent fields. It is for this purpose that this dictionary might be most often used. Scientists might also refer to this compilation in order to avoid identifying a project by an acronym which already has too many meanings or confused definitions.
Download or read book EMC at Component and PCB Level written by Martin O 'Hara and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-04-08 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the knowledge and good design practice for the design or test engineer to take the necessary measures to improve EMC performance and therefore the chance of achieving compliance, early on in the design process. There are many advantages for both the component supplier and consumer, of looking at EMC at component and PCB level. For the suppliers, not only will their products have the competitive edge because they have known EMC performance, but they will be prepared should EMC compliance become mandatory in the future. For consumers it is a distinct advantage to know how a component will behave within a system with regard to EMC.Shows how to achieve EMC compliance early on in the design processProvides the knowledge to trace system EMC performance problemsFollows best design practices

Download or read book European Telecommunications Liberalisation written by Kjell A. Eliassen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the process and consequences of telecommunications liberalisation in the context of an ever closer European Union. The creation of a single market for telecommunications and of a wider European single market mirror one another. Telecommunications are also something of a test case for the privatisation process, as this sector has traditionally been a state monopoly. The volume approaches the European experience from three angles: * the politics of regulation and the process of liberalisation in the EU (including case studies of the UK, France, and Germany) * increasing global economic interdependence makes international comparisons essential, and the volume compares the EU experience with that of the Czech Republic, Israel and Thailand * the consequences of technology and continuous innovation
