This book was released on 2018-04-22 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bantu Beliefs and Magic: With Particular Reference to the Kikuyu and Kamba Tribes of Kenya Colony; Together With Some Reflections on East Africa After the War IT is often said that the longer one knows the native the less one knows, and the less one understands him. This expression is doubtless comforting to persons who have not the patience to systematically study him and his views on life, but it could with convenience be replaced by a saying to the effect that the more one knows of the native the more one realises how much remains to be learnt. Book Language and Politics in Africa

Download or read book Language and Politics in Africa written by John Obiero Ogone and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language and Politics in Africa is a fine collection of both empirically and theoretically based articles from across the African continent and beyond, but all focusing on the twin issues of Language and Politics in post colonial African countries. The authors offer critical perspectives on contemporary theoretical, empirical and policy issues related to language and how such issues manifest themselves at the inevitable interface with politics in a number of African countries. Coming at a time when most African countries are still grappling with language policy and planning issues while others are increasingly having to contend with the political outcomes of linguistically and ethnically heterogeneous nation-states, the present volume is a must read for scholars and students who are interested on the twin issues of language and politics since it represents one of the first attempts at documenting how language and politics affect each other in a number of African countries. The volume is divided into two sections dealing with the politics of language and the language of politics in African countries.

Book British Policy in Kenya Colony

Download or read book British Policy in Kenya Colony written by Marjorie Ruth Dilley and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1966 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the time of this book’s original publication in 1938 the state if Kenya was exciting much interest and controversy and Miss Dilley’s work was recongnized as an important contribution towards understanding what was at once the most fascinating and the most difficult of all the colonial problems facing the British government. This book is a specific study of British policy in Kenya during this period as the author felt this was particularly pertinent in light of the complexity of the situation in Kenya. The work begins with a survey of the geography, racial groups, history and government organizations of Kenya Colony and Miss Dilley than traces the development and application of the policy which the British Government expressly undertook to maintain – a trusteeship for native races. She also gives a fair and lucid account of the growth of political organizations among the European settlers and describes the history of such past controversies as the ‘Indian Question’ and land alienation. Finally there is a brief section on the application of the principle of trusteeship which deals with the labour question and the industrial and agricultural problems of the colony.
