Book Orbifolds and Stringy Topology

Download or read book Orbifolds and Stringy Topology written by Alejandro Adem and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-05-31 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to the theory of orbifolds from a modern perspective, combining techniques from geometry, algebraic topology and algebraic geometry. One of the main motivations, and a major source of examples, is string theory, where orbifolds play an important role. The subject is first developed following the classical description analogous to manifold theory, after which the book branches out to include the useful description of orbifolds provided by groupoids, as well as many examples in the context of algebraic geometry. Classical invariants such as de Rham cohomology and bundle theory are developed, a careful study of orbifold morphisms is provided, and the topic of orbifold K-theory is covered. The heart of this book, however, is a detailed description of the Chen-Ruan cohomology, which introduces a product for orbifolds and has had significant impact. The final chapter includes explicit computations for a number of interesting examples.

Book Cohomology of Finite Groups

Download or read book Cohomology of Finite Groups written by Alejandro Adem and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cohomology of groups has, since its beginnings in the 1920s and 1930s, been the stage for significant interaction between algebra and topology and has led to the creation of important new fields in mathematics, like homological algebra and algebraic K-theory. This is the first book to deal comprehensively with the cohomology of finite groups: it introduces the most important and useful algebraic and topological techniques, and describes the interplay of the subject with those of homotopy theory, representation theory and group actions. The combination of theory and examples, together with the techniques for computing the cohomology of important classes of groups including symmetric groups, alternating groups, finite groups of Lie type, and some of the sporadic simple groups, enable readers to acquire an in-depth understanding of group cohomology and its extensive applications.

Book Anarchy Order and Power in World Politics

Download or read book Anarchy Order and Power in World Politics written by Seifudein Adem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: Questioning the most fundamental assumptions of international relations theory, this absorbing work compares and contrasts domestic and international politics regarding the issues of order and disorder taking into account aspects of the two realms which have been neglected by scholarship until now. Challenging the view that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the absence of a world government and international anarchy and that durable and genuine cooperation among sovereign states becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible, under the circumstances, this text is suitable for upper-level undergraduates, graduates and scholars of international relations.

Book Hegemony and Discourse

Download or read book Hegemony and Discourse written by Seifudein Adem and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adem (area studies, U. of Tsukuba, Japan) shares the perspective of a non-American student of international affairs by asking one question: why and how do some discourses attain and others are denied a hegemonic status. The aesthetic, logical, or moral quality of a specific issue has little to do with the status it attains, he finds, and he begins formulation of hypotheses on what is crucial.
