Book excerpt: Excerpt from Banded Ministry: And the Upas Tree This pamphlet was in print and nearly ready for delivery to the booksellers, when the Prime Minister's statement of the University Education Bill was published. He took credit for the alleged benefits arising from the Church Act and Land Act; and, for proof, referred to the statistics of crime, with which those Acts have no more to do than they have with the longitude. The case of Stevenson v. Lord Leitrim, on the construction of the Land Act, is stated at page 57. That Act, in general terms, made the Ulster tenant-right custom binding on landlords; and, at the same time, ignored the most important duty of a wise and benevolent legislature, in omitting to define what that custom was, capable, as it was, and is, of clear and adequate definition, viz., the right of the tenant to sell and transfer his possession to such substitute, as the landlord could not reasonably object to receive, as tenant in his place, at the old rent, or a revised rent. In some localities, and on some estates, there were certain known modifications of the custom - such as limiting the price, in order to prevent the new tenant from parting his whole capital, and entering on the land without the means of working it. Book The Free Church Today New Life for the Whole Church

Download or read book The Free Church Today New Life for the Whole Church written by Arthur A. Rouner and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important contribution to American ecumenism is an impassioned plea for an encounter between the mainline denominational churches and the vital new “third force” of the evangelical and “free” churches. It strives to bridge the gulf between the most uncritical supporters of organic church union and those most suspicious of its organizational purpose and theology. It suggests that the common elements of the New Testament church life in all local churches provide a basis for understandings out of which a new spirit and a broad new alignment can evolve. It urges the mainline groups to achieve an understanding with these free churches—whose doctrine of authority posits a direct, personal rule of Christ over each local “gathered” congregation without the meditation of bishops, priests, synods or councils—in seeking a new basis for achieving the reality of the “great church coming” which is the ecumenical hope. The author’s conviction is that the future of the church in America and of any vital ecumenical witness rests with these “left out” churches and their creative rapprochement with other life of all churches together in an exciting and meaningful mission in which American churches of all traditions can share completely, yet without compromise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An award-winning book from a multimillion selling author, now available in paperback for the first time! Henry Blackaby says, “As important as Experiencing God has been to many people, A God Centered Church is a necessary sequel. Christians must make the transition from knowing and doing the will of God as individuals to knowing and doing the will of God within a corporate body of believers.” Indeed, there is a corporate nature to salvation. God saves individuals but places them in community with one another—a community of believers. God is creating for Himself a people through whom He can accomplish His purposes in our world. Experiencing God Together helps churches experience the fullness of life as a congregation, a manifest presence of God in their midst, and a love that could only come from above.

Book The Rebirth of the Church

Download or read book The Rebirth of the Church written by Eddie Gibbs and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2013-07-15 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Churches across the Western world have become increasingly fragmented and marginalized, often struggling to survive. Here Eddie Gibbs, a bestselling author and veteran church and culture expert, addresses the challenges of re-imagining the church in a post-Christian world. He gleans critical biblical insights from the early church's experience to help contemporary leaders and churches minister more effectively. Gibbs compares and contrasts the social and cultural context of the twenty-first century with the first century, exploring what can be learned about the birthing of churches in the book of Acts and in Paul's letters. He identifies the issues Paul faced in order to sustain a movement growing exponentially and considers what lessons might be learned in addressing current challenges in the church. The book examines vital issues not only for the survival of the church but also for its revitalization and rebirth, and provides direction for local churches on becoming agents of mission.
