Book Banking Crises in Latin America

Download or read book Banking Crises in Latin America written by Ricardo Hausmann and published by IDB. This book was released on 1996 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Banking crises occur in both industrial and developing countries, but in Latin America they last longer, affect a larger segment of the banking industry and cost the public more. In Banking Crises in Latin America, distinguished policymakers, academicians and bankers examine the main causes of such crises, how governments can manage them more effectively, and how they can be prevented. The six sections of the book focus on the salient features of Latin American banking systems, the macroeconomic causes of banking crises, the microeconomic factors leading to bank difficulties, and the particular constraints that make the management of banking crises more complicated in Latin America than in industrial countries. Policy recommendations at both the macro- and microeconomic level aim to improve the resilience of banking systems to unanticipated shocks. The last section of the book turns the focus to experiences of individual countries. Contributors include Eduardo Aninat, Guillermo Calvo, Michel Camdessus, Sebastian Edwards, Enrique Iglesias, Lawrence Summers and Paul Volcker.

Book Perspectivas del Comercio Internacional de Am rica Latina y el Caribe 2019

Download or read book Perspectivas del Comercio Internacional de Am rica Latina y el Caribe 2019 written by Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and published by United Nations. This book was released on 2020-02-12 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Historia bancaria y monetaria de Am rica Latina siglos XIX y XX written by Carlos Marichal and published by Ed. Universidad de Cantabria. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Financial Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book Financial Development in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Augusto de la Torre and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1980s and 1990s, financial sectors were the Achilles heel of economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Since then, these sectors have grown and deepened, becoming more integrated and competitive, with new actors, markets, and instruments springing up and financial inclusion broadening. To crown these achievements, the region s financial systems were left largely unscathed by the global financial crisis of 2008 09. Now that the successes of LAC s macrofinancial stability are widely recognized and tested, it is high time for an in-depth stocktaking of what remains to be done. Financial Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: The Road Ahead provides both a stocktaking and a forward-looking assessment of the region s financial development. Rather than going into detail about sector-specific issues, the report focuses on the main architectural issues, overall perspectives, and interconnections. The report s value added thus hinges on its holistic view of the development process, its broad coverage of the financial services industry beyond banking, its emphasis on benchmarking, its systemic perspective, and its explicit effort to incorporate the lessons from the recent global financial crisis. Financial Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: The Road Ahead builds on and complements several overview studies on financial development in both LAC countries and the developing world that were published in the past decade. It will be of interest to policy makers and financial analysts interested in improving the financial sector in the LAC region.

Download or read book El nacimiento de la banca en Am rica Latina written by Carlos Marichal and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2022-02-17 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2015

Download or read book Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2015 written by United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and published by United Nations. This book was released on 2016-04-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean of ECLAC presents a set of basic statistics on the economic, sociodemographic and environmental situation of the region during a specific time period. This edition of the Yearbook includes information available up to mid-December 2014, and it comprises four chapters. The first covers demographic and social indicators and continues to reflect special efforts to mainstream the gender perspective in statistical information and to encompass poverty-related topics. The second chapter presents economic statistics relating to trade, balance of payments and domestic prices, as well as national accounts. The statistical series are expressed in constant dollars. The third chapter provides quantitative information available on the environment. Given the abundance of data —often diverse and sometimes conflicting— now accessible to researchers, special attention must be paid to technical aspects specifying the source of the data, their definition and coverage. This information is presented in the fourth chapter, which deals with methodology and metadata, supplementing the more specific information contained in the footnotes to each of the tables in this Yearbook.

This book was released on 2004-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Governance of Financialization in Latin America and East Asia

Download or read book The Governance of Financialization in Latin America and East Asia written by Max Nagel and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-20 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Governance of Financialization in Latin America and East Asia analyses how states in these areas have adopted different monetary, financial, and foreign exchange policies to govern financialization, which have induced varying levels of state control over financial markets. The book analyzes the puzzling observation of policy divergence by investigating how countries have reacted differently to major financial crises since the 1970s. It shows how Argentina and Japan selected a governance approach to financialization that followed Western prescriptions by propelling unregulated financialization; but also how Chile and South Korea, by contrast, crafted policies to reduce the negative effects of financialization on economic development and financial stability. The book identifies variegated expertise in central banks, ministries of finance, expert commissions, and research institutions that has informed policymaking across Argentina, Chile, Japan, and South Korea since the 1970s. It then demonstrates how governments have used experts to achieve diverse political objectives and explains how governments can use experts to enhance state agency to counter globalization pressures. This book will appeal to scholars of International Political Economy, comparative politics, economics, sociology, development studies, and Latin American and East Asian history. It will also be of interest to economists and policymakers who want to safeguard financial stability and promote economic growth.

Book Banca central en Am rica Latina

Download or read book Banca central en Am rica Latina written by Mr.Yan Carriere-Swallow and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policymakers in Latin America increasingly are turning to policies that have high economic rates of return and a favorable impact on income distribution. By providing financial services to small businesses and poor households -which normally lack such services- credit unions help secure growth with equity. The challenges faced by Latin America's credit unions today are likely to force them to further modernize and consolidate, fine tune their inherent advantages, improve mechanisms for prudential regulation, and find ways to increase their share of low and middle-income markets. Safe Money presents the new thinking on how credit unions can compete effectively in modern financial markets while still retaining their social mission.

Book Central Banking in Latin America

Download or read book Central Banking in Latin America written by Mr.Luis Ignacio Jácome and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a brief historical journey of central banking in Latin America to shed light on the debate about monetary policy in the post-global financial crisis period. The paper distinguishes three periods in Latin America’s central bank history: the early years, when central banks endorsed the gold standard and coped with the collapse of this monetary system; a second period, in which central banks turned into development banks under the aegis of governments at the expense of increasing inflation; and the “golden years,” when central banks succeeded in preserving price stability in an environment of political independence. The paper concludes by cautioning against overburdening central banks in Latin America with multiple mandates as this could end up undermining their hard-won monetary policy credibility.
