Download or read book Artful Teaching written by David M. Donahue and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors in this volume share exemplary arts-integration practices across the K–8 curriculum. Rather than providing formulas or scripts to be followed, they carefully describe how the arts offer an entry point for gaining insight into why and how students learn. The book includes rich and lively examples of public school teachers integrating visual arts, music, drama, and dance with subject matter, including English, social studies, science, and mathematics. Readers will come away with a deeper understanding of why and how to use the arts every day, in every school, to reach every child. Both a practitioner’s guide and a school reform model, this important book: Explains how arts integration across the K–8 curriculum contributes to student learning.Features examples of how integrated arts education functions in classrooms when it is done well. Explores intensive teacher-education and principal-training programs now underway in several higher education institutions. Offers concrete ideas for educators who are looking to strengthen their own skills and improve student opportunities for learning. “Educators are increasingly taking heart and taking hold of arts integration in the ways described in this wonderful volume.” —From the Foreword by Cyrus E. Driver, The Ford Foundation “I find the result of these authors’ efforts stunning.” —From the Afterword by Lois Hetland, Massachusetts College of Art

Download or read book Solving Behavior Problems in Autism written by Linda A. Hodgdon and published by Quirk Roberts Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Art Centered Learning Across the Curriculum written by Julia Marshall and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 2015-04-28 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides teachers with a framework for implementing inquiry-based, substantive art integration across the curriculum, along with the background knowledge and models needed to do this. Drawing on ideas from Harvard Project Zero, the authors make a clear and compelling argument for how contemporary art supports student learning. The text features subject-specific chapters co-written by teaching scholars from that discipline. Each chapter includes examples of contemporary art with explanations of how these works explore the fundamental concepts of the academic discipline. The book concludes with a chapter on an integrated, inquiry-based curriculum inspired by contemporary art, including guidelines for developing art projects teachers can adapt to their students’ interests and needs. This resource is appropriate for art teachers, as well as subject-area teachers who are not familiar with using contemporary art in the classroom. “I am so excited about this book! The visuals alone are enough to clue teachers in on ways that Contemporary Art can blow their curriculums open to become engaging, relevant vehicles for their students to ride across the 21st century. From the first scan, readers cannot help but see the power of Contemporary Art in transforming classrooms and learning.” —From the Foreword by Lois Hetland, professor and chair of art education at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and co-author of Studio Thinking 2 “Art-Centered Learning Across the Curriculum well surpasses its goal to demystify contemporary art for K–12 teachers. In this important text, the authors present a direct challenge to educators and public education reformers of all stripes to embrace the arts and design practices across disciplines as a potent means for building beautiful minds, not merely as a tool for beautifying dingy school corridors. This new book serves as a primer for fashioning the kinds of integrated curriculum frameworks required for success in today’s global knowledge economy.” —James Haywood Rolling Jr., chair of art education and a dual professor in art education and teaching and leadership, Syracuse University

Download or read book Verbal Perseveration written by Jacqueline Ann Stark and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory textbooks on neurogenic communication disorders associated with aphasia and brain injury do not provide full documentation of the pervasive influence of perseveration in the diagnosis and treatment of clients with severe language processing deficits. This special issue of Aphasiology aims to revives the profound interest in verbal perseveration observed in the classical German literature between 1890 and 1931. Various aspects of the phenomenon of perseveration are addressed in this issue. When and under what circumstances do perseverations occur? What are the characteristics of perseverative errors and how do they relate to non-perseverative sound and word errors? The papers share a common goal, namely to understand the origin of the phenomenon 'perseveration' in healthy subjects and clients with brain damage and injury. An overarching claim throughout the papers is that perseveration reflects the client's primary language processing deficits.
