Book excerpt: "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time" - R. Kelly. Not everything that we chase after in life is really worth our efforts. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle is vital to both the young and old people alike. How we live with our families, our friends and those around us determines how people will remember us either when we are still alive or have passed on. How would you want to be remembered by your own family, your friends and those who got to know you in general? Each new day presents a clean page to rewrite the story of our lives and challenge people's perceptions regarding us. We need to live our lives to the fullest and take advantage of every opportunity. You do not want to regret the various choices you made later when you reach the end of your days. Experience is a very bad teacher because it says you can only learn from things you suffered not to touch the very same things again. In this book, you will find some key pillars that are essential for living a balanced life. The book challenges the reader to strive not only to be the best in the world but to be the best for the world. It applies to people of all age groups and addresses principles for living a fulfilled life. These principles are derived from the manual of life, the Bible, and apply to every member of the society regardless of religion, culture, race or gender. "When the Lord Jesus was responding to the claim made by the Pharisees, His answer focused on the principles. They argued that Moses commanded to give a certificate of divorce if a man feels to do so to his wife just for any reason. In the beginning, it was not so, God created them male and female and their coming together resulted in them no longer being two but one flesh, He responded. My take is that He could have used any other way to answer them but He chose to refer to the principle rather than anything." - Quote from the foreword by Apostle M. Selepe. What Matters the Most? What are the things that matters the most to you as an individual? Is it fame, money, your job, your family, etc? Some important parts of our lives should not suffer due to our negligence as we focus too much on others, hence there is a need to strike a balance for the things that matters. A balanced life is not the absence of challenges but the presence of the sure firm foundation upon which our lives should be established.

Book Principles of Philosophy

Download or read book Principles of Philosophy written by Michael Jean Nystrom-Schut and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 1452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not just anyone sits down to write their own personal Bible. The famous one, popular with millions of Christians, was penned by 35-40 different authors, over a span of some 1100 years. As of 1995, it was still considered (Guinness) the world’s #1 best seller of all-time. In stark contrast, Michael’s 2-volume Principles of Philosophy was meditated, contemplated, drafted, and written - in deep anonymity and solitude - over a daily and nightly 30-month span. His two books come in at over 800,000 words (the same as ten 80,000-word works). With the King James Old and New Testament totaling just over 783,000 words, it is easy to see why Michael views himself as both prolific (plentiful) and loquacious (talkative) when it pertains to laying down thought. As the Bible is for millions on the planet, Michael feels his principles are also a template - an owner’s manual - a guidebook - for (in particular) how to: (1) view life on earth; (2) work on the detail of one’s philosophy and worldview; and (3) examine and conduct a balanced, meaningful existence on this planet. The Holy Bible consists of 80 books (39 in the Old Hebrew part, 14 in the Apocrypha, and 27 in the New Christian part). Michael’s Principles (Volumes One and Two) each cover 84 chapters of the basic areas of life as he views them, with 21 chapters outlined each, for: (1) the mental; (3) the social; and (2) the material; (4) the spiritual areas of our lives. A detailed numbering system is in place for quick reference to topics. Each volume happens to come in at 613 entries, making a total of 1226 separate entries in the two books. By dictionary definition, a “principle” is defined as a “fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.” This is precisely why he chose “principles” in the title. His own personal philosophical principles are what he tries to practice daily. Michael even states they are likely the reason he is still with us in bodily form on the earth, and remains in (relative) possession of his right mind as well. Since leaving organized religion early on in life, these tenants, practiced in balance, have been what Michael has focused on for several decades. They work well for him. In the course of these pursuits, he says he has come to thousands of conclusions. And they all point to the balanced life. As he insists, for him, it is all about equivalent portions of mind (mental), body (material), relationships (social), and spirituality (God; the Universe). Basically, everything can be summed up within these four primary areas of life. Michael seems to never hesitate to conclude that he has found his own personal means of salvation in the midst of pursuing his balance of the Principles of Philosophy. - Tanya Walker (wife)

Download or read book Principles written by Ray Dalio and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller “Significant...The book is both instructive and surprisingly moving.” —The New York Times Ray Dalio, one of the world’s most successful investors and entrepreneurs, shares the unconventional principles that he’s developed, refined, and used over the past forty years to create unique results in both life and business—and which any person or organization can adopt to help achieve their goals. In 1975, Ray Dalio founded an investment firm, Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Forty years later, Bridgewater has made more money for its clients than any other hedge fund in history and grown into the fifth most important private company in the United States, according to Fortune magazine. Dalio himself has been named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Along the way, Dalio discovered a set of unique principles that have led to Bridgewater’s exceptionally effective culture, which he describes as “an idea meritocracy that strives to achieve meaningful work and meaningful relationships through radical transparency.” It is these principles, and not anything special about Dalio—who grew up an ordinary kid in a middle-class Long Island neighborhood—that he believes are the reason behind his success. In Principles, Dalio shares what he’s learned over the course of his remarkable career. He argues that life, management, economics, and investing can all be systemized into rules and understood like machines. The book’s hundreds of practical lessons, which are built around his cornerstones of “radical truth” and “radical transparency,” include Dalio laying out the most effective ways for individuals and organizations to make decisions, approach challenges, and build strong teams. He also describes the innovative tools the firm uses to bring an idea meritocracy to life, such as creating “baseball cards” for all employees that distill their strengths and weaknesses, and employing computerized decision-making systems to make believability-weighted decisions. While the book brims with novel ideas for organizations and institutions, Principles also offers a clear, straightforward approach to decision-making that Dalio believes anyone can apply, no matter what they’re seeking to achieve. Here, from a man who has been called both “the Steve Jobs of investing” and “the philosopher king of the financial universe” (CIO magazine), is a rare opportunity to gain proven advice unlike anything you’ll find in the conventional business press.

Book The Handbook of Human Resource Management Policies and Practices in Asia Pacific Economies

Download or read book The Handbook of Human Resource Management Policies and Practices in Asia Pacific Economies written by Michael Zanko and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002-08-27 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'There is considerable rigour behind the work and the contexts are well positioned. The books have excellent HR data for not only businesses, but employees considering a transfer to an international location. In addition to the primary authors cadres of industry advisors were assembled of considerable status and representing mainstream organisations and unions. The countries covered total twenty one and, in addition, there is a summary chapter in volume two on issues, trends and implications. Obviously there are other reference points available on single countries and indeed dual country comparisons, but this work is timely, highly relevant and extremely valuable. It is recommended most highly.' – Geoffrey N. De Lacy, Australian Human Resource Institute Journal 'A very welcome and valuable addition to the literature, this two-volume handbook covers current HRM policies and practices in all 21 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) member economies. For the first time, we have single-source access to a codified set of macro-level HRM profiles for APEC membership economies . . . this project helps fill the need for systematic and accurate HRM data in a very large geographic area, including four continents divided by the Pacific Ocean . . . this is an impressive compilation and will benefit government and business organizations when formulating strategy for employment relations. It will also assist those in the academic sector with the research and teaching of cross-cultural management issues. It should be a welcome addition to most academic and special libraries with interests in the Asia and the Pacific.' – David A. Flynn, Business Information Alert It is becoming increasingly recognised that the way in which human resources are managed is a key source of sustainable competitive advantage for business. Nowhere, Michael Zanko argues, is this seen to be more relevant than in the Asia-Pacific region. The aim of the Handbook and its systematically codified economy human resource management (HRM) profiles is to improve knowledge and understanding of HRM policy and practices in the Asia-Pacific region. It serves as a practical guide to predominantly macro-level HRM policies and practices in ten APEC economies, covering Australia, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, People's Republic of China, Thailand and the United States of America. The Handbook of Human Resource Management Policies and Practices in Asia-Pacific Economies Volume I will be essential reading for lecturers, researchers, academics and managers concerned with human resource management, international business, management, and cross-cultural studies. The Handbook will also be of great interest to those involved in industrial and employment relations.

Book The Future Imaginary in Indigenous North American Arts and Literatures

Download or read book The Future Imaginary in Indigenous North American Arts and Literatures written by Kristina Baudemann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the future in Indigenous North American speculative literature and digital arts. Asking how different Indigenous works imagine the future and how they negotiate settler colonial visions of what is to come, the chapters illustrate that the future is not an immutable entity but a malleable textual/digital product that can function as both a colonial tool and a catalyst for decolonization. Central to this study is the development of a methodology that helps unearth the signifying structures producing the future in selected works by Darcie Little Badger, Gerald Vizenor, Stephen Graham Jones, Skawennati, Danis Goulet, Scott Benesiinaabandan, Postcommodity, Kite, Jeff Barnaby, and Ryan Singer. Drawing on Jason Lewis’s "future imaginary" as the theoretical core, the book describes the various forms of textual representation and virtual simulation through which notions of Indigenous continuation are expressed in literary and new media works. Arguing that Indigenous authors and artists apply the aesthetics of the future as a strategy in their works, the volume conceptualizes its multimedia corpus as a continuously growing archive of, and for, Indigenous futures.

Download or read book Metaphorical Management written by Klaus Elle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-17 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In times of general instability change management is a great challenge. Our fossil mental patterns are not sufficient any more to be able to navigate sensibly the global scenario of complexity. Metaphorical thinking is a method which releases creative impulses into every change process and is of practical use, activating collective knowledge as a new network resource at the same time. This book reflects modern economy, ecology, sustainability and perception from an artistic perspective. However, it is not so much about "art", but rather how the modern artist takes on a serving role in the social arena again. He makes his creative knowledge available to connect processes of large-scale social development, he extends the boundaries of our scientifically limited world view and creates inspired playgrounds where the sensory-visionary can freely interact with the technically-necessary. This is no new aesthetic theory but rather a practical application of the creative process in operation at the crossroads of social interaction. Metaphorical thinking is emotionalized thinking and the observer is not separated from reality, but the centre, the starting point, of every change and new development. This volume offers creative ways to find solutions for a wide range of complex problems. It is a practical instrument for modern leadership and can be used to teach complexity in new ways. This work will help to create a global dialogue for sustainable change. Thsi book is also available in German: ISBN 978-90-481-9678-4
