Book Bait Casting Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bait Casting Classic Reprint written by Gilmer Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-25 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bait Casting The offset handle and finger trigger grip have come about during the last few years. Some time ago the straight handle was used almost exclusively on casting rods. The new handle with the finger trigger enables you to get a better grip on the handle of the rod and to use your wrist in making the cast. Your grip Should be firm, but not so rigid or tight as to hamper free movement of your wrist. Your three fingers against your palm will exert the greatest pressure. This is necessary in order to give your thumb the proper relaxation and freedom for the Important thumbing of the reel. You should feel that you have complete con trol of the rod and reel (plate 2 gives the correct grip). Note that the reel handles are straighttup, the fingers press the rod into the palm of the hand, and the thumb rests on the flange of the spool. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fishing Kits and Equipment It is the writer's purpose to treat systematically the subject of tackle and, in addition, to suggest what tackle to select for the brook trout, the black bass, and other sweet-water game fishes. The reader is duly warned that he will seek in vain herein for exciting tales of mortal combats with huge bass or trout for fish stories of any sort, either alleged or experienced. Neither are there picturesque descriptions of the moun tain trout stream or the forest-bordered bass lake. Also, learned discussion or academic theorizing anent the haunts and habits of fishes must be sought else where. We are here strictly concerned with the prac tical, unsung side of the subject - how to outfit for a trout, bass or other fishing trip; how to select a good fly or bait-casting rod; how the rods are made and how they should be used; the proper selection of reels. Book Casting Tackle and Methods Classic Reprint

Download or read book Casting Tackle and Methods Classic Reprint written by O. W. Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Casting Tackle and Methods In Part II, I take up methods, and after instruct ing briefly in the handling of rod and reel. I take the reader to lake and stream and fish with him, showing him, as best I may, how, when and where to throw his lure. And it is the fishing out under the blue sky, where the birds sing and the water mur murs, that makes angling the sport of sports. I love tackle, talk and write tackle, but it is the actual fishing which enraptures me. Better a day on a bass water than two cycles of Cathay. I fondly believe that it will be Part II that will hold the attention of the reader longest/ though he will turn to the first half for information, and I hope that he will not be disappointed. These chapters appeared in their original form in Outdoor Life, though readers of that magazine will not recognize them in their new dress, so changed and elaborated are they. All have been re-written, some changed entirely to meet modern discoveries. Always I have worked with the needs of anglers in mind, needs that have been made manifest to me through extended and wide correspondence. Last year I answered questions from no less than 600 bass fans throughout the United States and Canada. So the reader can see that while I have compiled the book, as it were, it is the many eager questioners who have actually written it. So it is proper that I dedicate it to them, not forgetting to thank the Edi tor Of Outdoor Life for the privilege of publication in book form. Book Casting Tackle and Methods

Download or read book Casting Tackle and Methods written by O. W. Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Casting Tackle and Methods I am told that very few people read an introduction, a matter which I find it exceedingly difficult to believe, for often the introduction is the best part of a book; that is, when the introduction is not an apology for the book. I make no apology for sending out upon the great sea of books another volume dealing with bait casting as practiced with short rod and multiplying reel. It seems to me that there is room for another work, not too technical for the tyro, withal exact enough to prove of Interest to the old hand. It is not enough for a man to know tackle; he must also know fish; therefore I have divided this book into two parts: Part I deals with tackle, while Part II treats of methods. In both divisions I have been as careful and painstaking as possible, repeating myself again and again for the sake of clearness. In Part I, I begin with a frank discussion of the rod. Its material, construction and length, answering the questions which have so frequently been asked through my department in Outdoor Life. Then I take up the modern bait casting reel, tracing its development from the old English single action. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practical Angler Another of our tasks was the preparation of ingredients for ren dering the baits more enticing to the fish, though I believe, after reading several receipts, and trying to prepare some of the pre scriptions, a small piece of camphor put into the moss with the worms was all that was ever actually carried into e 'ect. Then we were to have a small box with gimblet holes bored in it, in which a quantity of worms were to be placed, and when this box was sunk (a stone being put in it for the purpose) the worms, as a for lorn hope to escape drowning, it was supposed would crawl out through the holes, and so entice all the fish in the neighbourhood to the spot; to our certain benefit, as to their just as certain de struction. The worms also had to be dug (for we did not then even presume to think of y fishing) and kept in moss, which was to be managed to the very letter according to the directions laid down in Walton. Book Bait Angling for Common Fishes Classic Reprint

Download or read book Bait Angling for Common Fishes Classic Reprint written by Louis Rhead and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bait Angling for Common Fishes There are many women who like to fish, but dislike to put a worm on and take a fish off the hook. This difficulty is soon overcome, if she explains to any boy, who will invariably place his services at her dis posal, and loudly applaud her luck. The trout is not a bottom fish, but I have included it because at times it is fished for in that way. For the methods Of fishing I have added to my own that practiced by other anglers, and for the descriptive habits I am indebted to the works of Brown Goode, Scott, Har ris, and mostly to The Food and Game Fish of New York, by my friend, Tarle ton H. Bean. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Book The Fine Art of Fishing Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Fine Art of Fishing Classic Reprint written by Samuel G. Camp and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-12 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fine Art of Fishing While the Eastern brook trout is undoubtedly in coloration the most beautiful of all game fishes, in for mation, especially as regards very large trout of, say, three pounds or over, its position is not so clearly first. The male trout of this weight, however finely marked with var ious tints of blue, crimson, and gold, tends dangerously to aldermanic girth and, with his usual under-shot and cruel lower jaw, is rather a creature to respect for gameness and fighting-blood than to admire artistically. The quality of coloration in the brook trout, too, is dependent to a great extent upon the immediate sur roundings affected by the fish. That this is a matter Of protective coloration should go Without gainsaying. In very dark waters, well shaded and with muddy or dark ly colored bottom, the brook trout is sympathetically Of subdued coloration, sometimes almost black - a very dark purple. On the other hand, in clear streams run ning over white gravel or pebbly beds, the trout are lightly tinted and Often have a golden luster or sheen that is unequaled for beauty. The wise men tell us that variation Of color in brook trout is caused by the light acting through the nerves of the eye upon certain color glands. It is also dependent to a certain extent upon the natural food most common to the stream, trout which have an abundance of insect food being the most brilliant in coloration as well as the largest. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States It is now nearly four hundred years Since these grounds were first fished upon by Europeans, and their resources are still unfailing; but the fishing interests have been mainly transferred to the New World, France alone of European countries having continued to send fishing vessels across the Atlantic down to 1880. Since then, however, the Portuguese have begun to exhibit some activity in connection with the cod fishery of the Grand Bank, and in the Spring and sum mer of 1885 bought several New England fishing schooners and fitted out others from home ports. Their voyages proving generally successful, they have added more vessels to their fishing fleet during the latter part of this year, and it is quite possible that, in the course of a few seasons. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Louisiana Conservationist, Vol. 9: July-August, 1957 In the last five or six years, the trend has been to smaller bass lures. With their advent came longer and lighter casting rods that would enable the fisherman to cast these smaller lightweight lures. The reels have also been modified so that they are lighter. In place of heavy brass or steel gears, they are now being made of nylon. In place of the conventional wide spool, what was once considered a tournament reel is now standard equipment in most places. The narrow spools provide more speed in casting. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
