Book Backstage You Can Have

Download or read book Backstage You Can Have written by Betty Hutton and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Betty Hutton was the top grossing female star at Paramount during much of the 1940s. At the top of her career, she was one of the most celebrated actresses in Hollywood, starring in such movies as "Annie Get Your Gun" and "The Greatest Show On Earth". Without warning, her career and world collapsed virtually overnight. Betty's tumultuous childhood came back to haunt her, and along with it, an addiction to prescription pills that almost ended her life. Betty disappeared from the public eye, until in 1974, when she was discovered living with and caring for priests in a Catholic rectory in Rhode Island. Interest in her and her life returned to the forefront. She began writing this book in 1970, as a means to explain the chain of events that led to her downfall. Sadly, she never finished writing it. After her death the Betty Hutton Estate picked up where she left off and completed her book for her. Almost 40 years after it was first started, Betty's real story is ready to be told! This is the NEWLY REVISED, 3rd Edition of the book. This edition includes 142 photos; many never before seen. That is double the number of images of any earlier edition!

  • Author : Ron Hull
  • Publisher : U of Nebraska Press
  • Release : 2012-10-01

Download or read book Backstage written by Ron Hull and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2012-10-01 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in 1930 in “Diddlin’ Dora’s” establishment on the banks of Rapid Creek and carried by the Madam herself to a social worker at the Alex Johnson Hotel in Rapid City, Ron Hull was destined from the outset to live an interesting life. And interesting it has indeed been, at the very least. A well-known and much-loved figure after six decades in television, Hull sets out in Backstage to tell his story—from playing a bellhop in a junior class play in South Dakota (and meeting his “real” mother backstage) to initiating the American Experience series for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Before he even owned a television set, Hull produced a military TV show at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. But it wasn’t until he got a job in public broadcasting in Lincoln, Nebraska, that he truly found his medium. Hull has a lifetime of fascinating anecdotes to tell: working as a producer and director, encountering celebrities like John Wayne and William Shatner, befriending famous Nebraskans like writers Mari Sandoz and John Neihardt and actress Sandy Dennis, moving to Saigon in 1966 to bring television to embattled Vietnam, and working in Washington as director of the program fund for the CPB. Through it all, though, Hull’s story is a tribute to his adopted Nebraska, a celebration of the people—stars and unsung heroes—he’s known, and a moving memoir of the dramas of life, large and small.

Book Backstage Wall Street PB

Download or read book Backstage Wall Street PB written by Joshua M. Brown and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chances are you haven’t been making the best investing decisions. Why? BECAUSE THAT’S HOW WALL STREET WANTS IT Wall Street is very good at one thing: convincing you to act against your own interests. And there’s no one out there better equipped with the knowledge and moxie to explain how it all works than Josh Brown. A man The New York Times referred to as “the Merchant of Snark” and Barron’s called “pot-stirring and provocative,” Brown worked for 10 years in the industry, a time during which he learned some hard truths about how clients are routinely treated—and how their money is sent on a one-way trip to Wall Street’s coffers. Backstage Wall Street reveals the inner workings of the world’s biggest money machine and explains how a relatively small confederation of brilliant, sometimes ill-intentioned people fuel it, operate it, and repair it when necessary—none of which is for the good of the average investor. Offering a look that only a long-term insider could provide (and that only a “reformed” insider would want to provide), Brown describes: THE PEOPLE—Why retail brokers always profit—even if you don’t THE PRODUCTS—How funds, ETFs, and other products are invented as failsafe profit generators—for the inventors alone THE PITCH—The marketing schemes designed for one thing and one thing only: to separate you from your money It’s that bad . . . but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Brown gives you the knowledge you need to make the right decisions at the right time. Backstage Wall Street is about seeing reality for what it is and adjusting your actions accordingly. It’s about learning who and what to steer clear of at all times. And it’s about setting the stage for a bright financial future—your own way.
