Download or read book Background Material for Teachers Old Testament Bible Survey Course Genesis Esther written by Bob O. Johnson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BACKGOUND MATERIAL FOR TEACHERS, Book One, surveys the first seventeen Old Testament books for Bible teachers of youth and adults. Teachers must build a firm foundation for studying/teaching the Old Testament by answering ten questions: What is the Old Testament? Who wrote the Old Testament? Where, When, Why and How was the Old Testament written? What are three major features of the Old Testament: Revelation, Inspiration and Preservation? How should we study the Word of God? Why should you memorize the Word of God? When should one read the Word of God? Teachers must also build a personal knowledge through surveying the Old Testament utilizing four areas of study: INTRODUCTORY MATERIAL for the first two sections of the Old Testament; BACKGROUND INFORMATION about the author and book; "TEACHER'S STUDY GUIDE" for each of the 17 books; PRESENTATION MATERIAL for teachers [a teaching survey presented by a Scripture verse or passage]. Following high school, a Bachelor of Science degree was received from Piedmont College, Demorest, GA plus a Georgia Teacher's Professional Certificate. Then came the Army Security Agency and three years later came employment with the National Security Agency, Washington, DC. Meeting Edith Campen from North Carolina led to marriage, February 1, 1957. A year after marriage, God called me to the ministry. Graduating from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, TX with a Bachelor of Divinity (updated to Masters of Divinity) and Masters in Religious Education (updated to Masters of Arts), God directed me to serve Him. For some 50 years, it was a pleasure to serve God and people in churches and classrooms as Minister of Youth, Minister of Education, Minister of Education/Administration, and Minister of Pastoral Care. It was a joy to teach this Old Testament Bible Survey Course to ninth grade students at Cypress Community Christian School, Houston, TX

Book Bible Workbook Vol 1 Old Testament

Download or read book Bible Workbook Vol 1 Old Testament written by Catherine B. Walker and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on 2016-08-07 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A need was felt in many high school Bible classes for a method of giving notes and assignment questions quickly, thereby leaving more of the valuable classroom time for explanations, discussions, and student participation. This workbook was first compiled to meet that need. This workbook has also been used by various age groups in churches and colleges and by individuals desiring a better understanding of God’s word. This is in no sense a textbook. It is hoped that no one will make the completion of the workbook a goal in itself but that the questions and notes may stimulate and guide each student in searching and knowing the BIBLE. The workbook is planned for a high school course which meets every day for a semester. The workbook has been effectively used in weekly Adult Bible classes by dividing it into four units of twelve lessons each. Because of this limited time in which to cover the Old Testament the problem of what to assign for reading and what to omit looms large. By the name of each book or by the questions on the book there are listed suggestive chapters for reading. The plan of the course is to study Israel’s history chronologically. David’s and Solomon’s writings are fitted in with their lives and the prophets mentioned as they appear in the history of the nation. The course is so arranged as to be flexible according to the individual teacher’s emphasis. Some may wish to end their course without completing the Old Testament history but most teachers feel that a brief glance at the whole is profitable in giving the students a rounded view of God’s dealing with His chosen people. This book is not primarily for teachers but for students. It is factual rather than inspirational. The spiritual presentation of the course has been left for each individual teacher to present according to the daily needs of the class. It is hoped that the facts and questions may furnish a basis for making many vital applications of the Old Testament to present-day living. In this second revision the sections on the kingdom period and the poetic books have been enlarged. The place of Christ in the Old Testament, especially in prophecy, has been set forth more clearly. There are additional notes in the material bringing ones attention to the progressive unfolding of God’s plan of redemption. The following words from 1 Timothy 4:12-16 were sent to me at the beginning of my work of Bible teaching. May the stimulation this passage must have been years ago to Timothy, and more recently to myself, be yours also. “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” CATHERINE B. WALKER

  • Pages : 168 pages

Download or read book A Biblical Catechism written by Stephen Wuori and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Months had gone by. The time and energy I had spent teaching the Pentateuch to my son was well worth it. We had finally finished the first five books of the Bible. My son was receiving a first rate Bible study. Or so I thought. Much to my disappointment, a brief question and answer session revealed that my boy couldn't remember the events of Abraham's life. What happened? We read a chapter of the Bible each day, beginning with Genesis all the way to Deuteronomy. We reviewed the major biblical events at the start of each day. What did I do wrong? He could answer the questions to the Westminster Shorter Catechism without any problem. Why couldn't he remember the Bible? Then it struck me. He needed a catechism of the Bible. And so did I. How many times have I found myself trying to recall the specific events of a biblical event, only having to reread the story. Many people are this way. We easily forget information if we are not vigilant in reviewing it. This catechism of the historical books of the Old Testament is the result of months of plodding study. Each day I read one chapter of the Bible to my two oldest children, and they memorized the answers to several questions. By the time we had finished the book of Joshua, my children knew the book as well as the kids who were raised in the Puritan era. We went on to the book of Judges. Once a week we returned to the book of Joshua to review the questions. When we arrived at the end of Judges we continued on to Ruth. Judges was added to our list of books to review weekly. The problem was solved. We will need to return to the book of the Law eventually. But for now we have proceeded to the New Testament. Lord willing, in a few months, a catechism of the Gospels and Acts will be completed and available for purchase. Catechisms have been used throughout the history of the church to communicate God's truth. The human mind is too often like a leaky bucket of water. Information we once had stored has disappeared over the course of time. As a weightlifter must train consistently to keep the gains he has made, so it is with the spiritual athlete. God has given us many tools to grow our spiritual life. Bible reading and prayer are two essential duties of every Christian. There are helps that we have relating to both that many before us did not have. This catechism is just that: a tool, a help. It is written so that children as young as five are able to easily memorize the answers. It is also a great way for adolescents to learn the Bible. And if you are like me, an adult with children or grandchildren who finds it more difficult to remember things than it used to be, this short book will be a benefit. So it is for everyone, the young and the old. It is for Sunday School teachers studying an historical book of the Bible with their class. It is for homeschool parents who desire a solid, biblical education for their children. It is for the head of the family for use at the family altar. And it is for God's child who desires to have a stronger relationship with Him through the knowledge of His Word. Stephen Wuori is from Massachusetts. He has served God as a missionary in the Amazon jungle and Ecuador where he lives with his wife and four children. He enjoys reading theology, biographies, and history, and roughhousing with his children.
