This book was released on 1906 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE first thing that the new parson noticed, as he rode up the narrow, precipitous street late in the October afternoon, was that the muffled knock-knocking that proceeded from the houses ceased as he ascended; and the next was that he had never in his life seen so many mongrel dogs as prowled and sniffed at his heels. He had left his grey galloway in Horwick Town, three miles back; he now saw the reason why they had laughed, and advised him that he might as well sell it there and then. Wadsworth Shelf had been steep; Wadsworth Street was precipitous; and at the head of the street rose Wadsworth Scout, dark and mountainous. The Scout was thinly wooded here and there with birch and mountain-ash. It overshadowed the village beneath it; and as the parson reached the small square at its foot he saw, over an irregular row of roofs, the squat belfry of the little church that was now his charge. A ramshackle inn, with a long horse-trough in front of it, occupied the lower side of the square.

Book excerpt: The #1 New York Times–bestselling author “skillfully weaves a tale of divine love coming to those most in need in this romantic tearjerker” (Publishers Weekly, starred review). Brady Bradshaw was a child when the Oklahoma City bombing killed his mother. While visiting the memorial site on the anniversary, he met Jenna Phillips, who was also a child when her parents were killed in the attack. Brady and Jenna shared a deep heart connection and a single beautiful day together. That was eleven years ago, but Bradley never forgot her. Every year, Bradley leaves a note for her at the memorial, putting his faith in God that he might find her again. This year, while on a spring break trip, Ashley Baxter Blake and her sister Kari Baxter Taylor and their families visit to the memorial’s famous Survivor Tree. When a chance moment reveals Brady’s troubled heart to Ashley, she feels compelled by God to help him find Jenna. But will it work? Will Ashley’s husband, Landon, understand her intentions? And is a shared heartache enough reason to fall in love? In To The Moon and Back, Karen Kingsbury shares an unlikely love story of healing, redemption, hope, and the belief that sometimes a new tomorrow can grow from the ashes of a shattered yesterday.

A ram shackle inn, with a long horse-trough in front of it, occupied the lower side of the square. As the knock-knocking ceased entirely, the parson became conscious that men and women had come softly out into the street behind him, and he knew without looking that behind every blind and shutter there was a pair of eyes. A raw-boned fellow lounged against the horse-trough of the inn, and he had taken off one of his woodasoled Clogs and was peering into it as if for a stone. The parson had been warned that few in his new cure were known by their baptismal names, and had been told the name by which he must seek his own verger and bellringer. Approaching the fellow with the dog, he asked where he should find one Pim o' Cuddy. The fellow jerked his head in the direction of the Church under the dark Scout, and continued to peer into the Clog. The dogs trailed after the person as he crossed the square. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Former NASA Astronaut Harrison Schmitt advocates a private, investor-based approach to returning humans to the Moon—to extract Helium 3 for energy production, to use the Moon as a platform for science and manufacturing, and to establish permanent human colonies there in a kind of stepping stone community on the way to deeper space. With governments playing a supporting role—just as they have in the development of modern commercial aeronautics and agricultural production—Schmitt believes that a fundamentally private enterprise is the only type of organization capable of sustaining such an effort and, eventually, even making it pay off.

Book Why Is It So Hard to Go Back to the Moon

Download or read book Why Is It So Hard to Go Back to the Moon written by Mark R. Whittington and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, departed from the lunar surface on December 14, 1972. The last words he spoke, officially, were, "And, as we leave the Moon at Taurus-Littrow, we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return: with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17." Decades later, despite the efforts of two American presidents, human beings have not returned to the moon. Why Earth's nearest neighbor remains untouched by human footsteps after so long remains one of the vexing questions of modern times. Mark R. Whittington, the author of the Children of Apollo trilogy and The Last Moonwalker and Other Stories, attempts to answer this question in his new long essay Why is it so Hard to Go Back to the Moon? The answer involves failures of leadership of multiple American presidents as well as political intrigue and backstabbing that shortened the Apollo program and left two return to the Moon programs stillborn. More important, Whittington seeks to set out a political blue print, learning from mistakes of the past, for setting course back to the Moon. Why is it so Hard to Go Back to the Moon is not a typical future in space book. The author does not delve into technical designs for lunar voyages. Instead he looks at the much harder than rocket science art of politics in relation to returning to the Moon. Why is it so Hard to Go Back to the Moon? is a must read for anyone interested in influencing future space policy or who are just interested in learning about the intersection between space exploration and politics.
