Book B Meson Physics with Polarized Electron Beams at the SLC

Download or read book B Meson Physics with Polarized Electron Beams at the SLC written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expected large cross-section for ee− .-->. Z° and subsequent decay to b/bar b/ quarks makes the Z° an attractive place to pursue B meson physics. In addition, the big Electroweak asymmetries, thought to exist in Z° decays to b/bar b/ quarks with polarized electron beams, provide an outstanding handle for observation of such effects as B°−bar B/° mixing. In this paper, the feasibility of such measurements is investigated and, with relatively small samples of Z°'s (a few hundred thousand), both B/sub d/ and B/sub s/ meson mixing are shown to be measurable. The subject of CP violation in neutral B mesons is discussed last, but presently such measurements seem to be out of reach. 7 refs., 6 figs., 3 tabs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expected large cross section for e e Z and subsequent decay to b/bar b/ quarks makes the Z an attractive placeto pursue B meson physics. The cross section for b-quark production at the Z is compared to resonance production at the UPSILON/sub 4s/ and UPSILON/sub 5s/. In addition the big electroweak asymmetries, thought to exist in Z decays to b/bar b/ quarks with polarized electron beams, provide an outstanding handle for observation of such effects as B - /bar B/ mixing. Book Physics Results with Polarized Electrons at SLAC

Download or read book Physics Results with Polarized Electrons at SLAC written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarized electron beams can play an important role in the dynamics of interactions at high energies. Polarized electron beams at SLAC have been an important part of the physics program since 1970, when they were first proposed for use in testing the spin structure of the proton. Since 1992, the SLAC linear accelerator and the SLC have operated solely with polarized electrons, providing data for tests of QCD in studies of the spin structure of the nucleon and tests of the electroweak sector of the Standard Model. In the following sections, the performance of the source is summarized, and some of the recent results using the polarized beams are discussed.

Book High energy Spin Physics

Book excerpt: "This conference was concerned with both the technology of spin and with particle physics, i.e., particle physicists need to know what experiments might be possible and target/beam/source physicists want to know what their work will lead to, and get new ideas. A report of the progress which has been made since the first conference in Argonne, 1974, a discussion of new experiments and theory, and new ideas for polarized sources, beams, and targets which point toward an exciting future program of particle physics are given in this summary."--Summary by AIP

Book Introduction to Polarization Physics

Download or read book Introduction to Polarization Physics written by Sandibek B. Nurushev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-10-28 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the polarization (spin) physics of high energy particles and contains three parts. The first part presents the theoretical prefaces of polarization in the particle physics for interpretations, predictions and bases for understanding the following two parts. The second part of the book presents the description of the essential polarization experiments including the recent ones. This part is devoted to the innovative instrumentations, gives the parameters of the polarized beams, targets, polarized gas jets and polarimeters. The third part of the book concentrates on the important achievements in polarization physics. The book can be used in lectures on nuclear and particle physics and and nuclear instruments and methods. As supplementary reading this book is useful for researchers working in particle and nuclear physics.

Book Reviews Of Accelerator Science And Technology Volume 10 The Future Of Accelerators

Download or read book Reviews Of Accelerator Science And Technology Volume 10 The Future Of Accelerators written by Chao Alexander Wu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-09-09 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 10 in the series of the annual journal Reviews of Accelerator Science and Technology (RAST), will be its final volume. Its theme is 'The Future of Accelerators'. This volume, together with previous 9 volumes, gives readers a complete picture as well as detailed technical information about the accelerator field, and its many driving and fascinating aspects. This volume has 17 articles. The first 15 articles have a different approach from the previous volumes. They emphasize the more personal views, perspectives and advice from the frontier researchers rather than provide a review or survey of a specific subfield. This emphasis is more aligned with the theme of the current volume. The other two articles are dedicated respectively to Leon Lederman and Burton Richter, two prominent leaders of our community who left us last year.

Book Energy And Mass In Relativity Theory

Download or read book Energy And Mass In Relativity Theory written by Lev Borisovich Okun and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-03-04 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy and Mass in Relativity Theory presents about 30 pedagogical papers published by the author over the last 20 years. They deal with concepts central to relativity theory: energy E, rest energy E0, momentum p, mass m, velocity v of particles of matter, including massless photons for which v = c. Other related subjects are also discussed.According to Einstein's equation E0= mc2, a massive particle at rest contains rest energy which is partly liberated in the nuclear reactions in the stars and the Sun, as well as in nuclear reactors and bombs on the Earth. The mass entering Einstein's equation does not depend on velocity of a body. This concept of mass is used in the physics of elementary particles and is gradually prevailing in the modern physics textbooks. This is the first book in which Einstein's equation is explicitly compared with its popular though not correct counterpart E = mc2, according to which mass increases with velocity. The book will be of interest to researchers in theoretical, atomic and nuclear physics, to historians of science as well as to students and teachers interested in relativity theory.

Book Handbook of Particle Physics

Download or read book Handbook of Particle Physics written by M.K. Sundaresan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Literally thousands of elementary particles have been discovered over the last 50 years, their properties measured, relationships systematized, and existence and behavior explained in a myriad of cleverly constructed theories. As the field has grown so impressively, so has its jargon. Until now, scientists in other fields have had no single resource from which they can quickly reference an idea, acronym, or term and find an accessible definition and explanation. The Handbook of Particle Physics fills that void. This unique work contains, in encyclopedic form, terms of interest in particle physics, including its peculiar jargon. It covers the experimental and theoretical techniques of particle physics along with terms from the closely related fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Designed primarily for non-specialists with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and relativity, the entries preserve a degree of rigor by providing the relevant technical and mathematical details. Clear and engaging prose, numerous figures, and historical overviews complement the handbook's convenience both as a reference and as an invitation into the fascinating world of particle physics.

Book Highly Polarized Electron Beams for Linear Colliders

Download or read book Highly Polarized Electron Beams for Linear Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The SLC operates with electron beams having a polarization of (almost equal to) 80%. The physics opportunities for future colliders will be greatly enhanced if the beam polarization can be significantly higher. The prospects for achieving electron single-beam polarizations> 95% are discussed. A complimentary achievement would be to use two-beam polarization.
