Book B Lifetimes and Mixing at the Tevatron

Download or read book B Lifetimes and Mixing at the Tevatron written by Franco Bedeschi and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present recent results on b-hadron lifetimes and mixing obtained from the analysis of the data collected at the Tevatron Collider by the CDF and D0 Collaborations in the period 2002-2004. Many lifetime measurements have been updated since the Summer 2004 conferences, sometimes improving significantly the accuracy. Likewise the measurement of the B{sub d} oscillation frequency has been updated. New limits on the B{sub s} oscillation frequency have been determined using for the first time Run II data.

Book B S LIFETIME DIFFERENCE MEASUREMENTS FROM THE TEVATRON

Download or read book B S LIFETIME DIFFERENCE MEASUREMENTS FROM THE TEVATRON written by K. YIP and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two collider experiments at the Tevatron, CDF and D0, have made a lot of progress in B{sub s} lifetime difference measurements. Here, they have included 3 different channels of measurements, namely, B{sub s} {yields} J/{psi} + {phi}, B{sub s} {yields} K{sup +}K{sup -} and B{sub s} {yields} D{sub s}{sup (*)+}D{sub s}{sup (*)-}. Combining all the available measurements, they have obtained {Delta}{Lambda}{sub s} = 0.097{sub -0.042}{sup +0.041} ps{sup -1} and {bar {tau}} = 1/{Lambda}{sub s} = 1.461 {+-} 0.030 ps. {Delta}{Lambda}{sub s} is now 2.3 {sigma} away from zero.

Book B Lifetimes and X Y Z States at the Tevatron

Download or read book B Lifetimes and X Y Z States at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A measurement of b-hadron lifetimes in the fully reconstructed decay modes B 2!J/[psi]K+, B° 2!J/[psi]K*°, B° 2!J/[psi]K{sub S}°, and [Lambda]{sub b}° 2!J/[psi] [Lambda]° is reported using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fb−1, collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured values are [tau](B+) = 1.639 ± 0.009(stat) ± 0.009(syst) ps, [tau](B°) = 1.507 ± 0.010(stat) ± 0.008(syst) ps and [tau]([Lambda]{sub b}°) = 1.537 ± 0.045(stat) ± 0.014(syst) ps. The lifetime ratios are [tau](B+)/[tau](B°) - 1.088 ± 0.009(stat) ± 0.004(syst) and [tau]([Lambda]{sub b}°)/[tau](B°) = 1.020 ± 0.030(stat) ± 0.008(syst). These are the most precise measurements of these quantities from a single experiment. Observation is also reported for a structure near the J/[psi][phi] threshold, in B+ to J/[psi][phi]K+ decays with an integrated luminosity of 6.0 fb−1 and a statistical significance of 5 standard deviations. There are 19 ± 6 events observed for this structure at a mass of 4143.4{sub -3.0}{sup +2.9} ± 0.6 MeV/c2 and a width of 15.3{sub -6.1}{sup +10.4} ± 2.5 MeV/c2.

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Mass and Lifetime Measurements with Exclusive B Reconstruction at CDF

Download or read book Mass and Lifetime Measurements with Exclusive B Reconstruction at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifetimes and masses of B mesons have been measured in exclusively reconstructed decays including J/[psi] [yields] [mu][sup +] decays. In 19.3 pb[sup [minus]1] of [bar p]p collisions at [radical]s = 1.8 TeV taken in 19920--93 at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, approximately 300 B mesons have been fully reconstructed. The measurements require precise determination of the helical track parameters of charged particle tracks. We find M(B[sub S][sup O]) = 5367.7 [plus-minus] 2.4 [plus-minus] 4.8 MeV/c[sup 2], [tau](B[sup +]) = 1.61 [plus-minus] 0.16 [plus-minus] 0.05 ps, and [tau](B[sup O]) = 1.57 [plus-minus] 0.18 [plus-minus] 0.08 ps.

Book B Physics And Cp Violation Proceedings Of The 2nd International Conference

Download or read book B Physics And Cp Violation Proceedings Of The 2nd International Conference written by Thomas E Browder and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-04-04 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation is one of the most subtle effects in the Standard Model of particle physics and may be the first clue to the physics that lies beyond. Charge conjugation, C, and parity, P, are symmetries of particle interactions. C corresponds to the operation of replacing a particle by its antiparticle, while P is the operation of mirror reflection. Before 1956, it was believed that these were also symmetries of the interactions of elementary particles. In 1956, C S Wu found evidence for P violation in the weak interaction. Theorists proposed that the combination of CP would be a symmetry of the weak interaction. In 1964, Christenson, Cronin, Fitch and Turlay found the first evidence for the violation of CP symmetry in the decays of kaons.Although Kobayashi and Maskawa then showed how the Standard Model can accommodate the observed CP violation, Wolfenstein pointed out that it is also possible that there is a new interaction in addition to the usual four, called the superweak interaction, which is responsible for the asymmetry. To test this idea, the observation of a different type of asymmetry, called direct CP violation, is required; in the kaon sector, very precise measurements of the ratio of kaon decay rates are necessary. In B decay modes where a second order weak process whimisically named “penguin” interferes with another suppressed, first order “tree” amplitude, it may also be possible to observe these direct CP-violating effects.B physics and CP violation is now one of the major growth areas in high energy physics. Nearly every major high energy physics laboratory now has a project underway to observe the large CP asymmetries expected in the B sector and to test the consistency of the Standard Model. The unitarity of the Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing matrix in the Standard Model implies the existence of three phases, called alpha, beta and gamma, which can be determined by the measurements of CP asymmetries in B decays. About 200 participants gathered in Hawaii in March 1997 to discuss the progress in the field, and this important book constitutes the proceedings of that conference.

Book B Lifetimes at CDF

Download or read book B Lifetimes at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the average b-hadron lifetime using inclusive B [yields] J/[psi]X events, the individual B[sub u] and B[sub d] lifetimes and their ratio using exclusive B [yields] [psi]K events, and the B[sub s] lifetime using semileptonic B[sub s] lifetime using semileptonic B[sub s] [yields] l[nu]D[sub 3]X events are presented. The results were obtained from a 21.3 pb[sup [minus]1] sample of [radical]s = 1.8 TeV [bar p]p collisions collected in 1992--93 at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and required the precise position measurements of the recently installed CDF silicon vertex detector.

Download or read book B Physics at Hadron Machines written by Manfred Paulini and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2004-09-28 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference series reviews progress in understanding the physics of the 5th quark (beauty quark or bottom quark) and the properties of particles containing a b-quark. These quarks are produced at particle accelerators such as electron-positron accelerators or hadron colliders with the latter being the focus of the conference. One of the main issues in understanding the physics of the 5th quark is CP violation, a mechanism in particle physics that breaks the symmetry of nature between particles and antiparticles ultimately connected to the particle-antiparticle asymmetry of the universe. Topics include: recent results; CP violation; B production and spectroscopy; detectors, hardware, and computing; Vucb, Vub, and factorization; B lifetimes and mixing; rare decays; B trigger at future experiments; B physics at future hadron machines; the future of flavor.

Book B Physics Results from the Tevatron

Download or read book B Physics Results from the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With data samples of up to 2 fb−1 of p[bar p] interactions at [square root]s = 1960 GeV, the CDF and D0 experiments are beginning to make precision measurements of the lifetime of bottom hadrons not produced in ee− colliders operating at the [Upsilon](4S) and set limits on the branching ratios of many decay modes that are predicted to be rare or forbidden under the standard model. Both sets of measurements are providing limits on physics beyond the standard model.
