Book B Hadron Properties Measured in the D0 Experiment

Download or read book B Hadron Properties Measured in the D0 Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of charm and beauty mesons and baryons provides many opportunities to not only measure and classify their spectroscopic states, but also it serves as a testing ground for aspects of flavor QCD such as heavy quark effective theory and lattice gauge calculations, that are used in precise calculations of masses, lifetimes and cross sections. The Fermilab Tevatron has provided both fixed target and proton--antiproton collider facilities that not only account for the discovery of b-quarks but also have dovetailed well with the b-factories to answer a variety of b-physics questions, some of which were not readily explored at existing e e− and electron-positron colliders. An added feature of the hadron colliders is their large cross-section and high luminosity for production of b-quark states that compliments the high luminosities of the b-factories. We report on the observation of b-hadron states reconstructed using the D0 detector data at the Tevatron Collider. Measurements of the mass and relative rates of neutral excited B{sub d} and B{sub s} mesons, and the discovery of the [Xi]{sub b} baryon are described.

Book Measurements of the Masses Lifetimes and Decay Modes of Hadrons at Tevatron

Download or read book Measurements of the Masses Lifetimes and Decay Modes of Hadrons at Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tevatron provides 1.96 TeV p{bar p} collisions and allows for collection of rich b-hadron samples to the two experiments CDF and D0. The study of heavy flavor properties represents a fruitful opportunity to investigate the flavor sector of the Standard Model (SM) and to look for hints of New Physics (NP). Here we report the first measurement of polarization amplitudes in B{sub s}° charmless decays, world leading results on b-hadron lifetimes, and measurements of several other properties of b-hadrons.

Book Measurement of the D0 Meson Production in Pb Pb and p Pb Collisions

Download or read book Measurement of the D0 Meson Production in Pb Pb and p Pb Collisions written by Andrea Festanti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-07 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the first measurement of charmed D0 meson production relative to the reaction plane in Pb–Pb collisions at the center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon collision of √sNN = 2.76 TeV. It also showcases the measurement of the D0 production in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement of the D0 azimuthal anisotropy with respect to the reaction plane indicates that low- momentum charm quarks participate in the collective expansion of the high-density, strongly interacting medium formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, despite their large mass. This behavior can be explained by charm hadronization via recombination with light quarks from the medium and collisional energy loss. The measurement of the D0 production in p–Pb collisions is crucial to separate the effect induced by cold nuclear matter from the final- state effects induced by the hot medium formed in Pb–Pb collisions. The D0 production in p–Pb collisions is consistent with the binary collision scaling of the production in pp collisions, demonstrating that the modification of the momentum distribution observed in Pb–Pb collisions with respect to pp is predominantly induced by final-state effects such as the charm energy loss.

Book Measurements of the X c and X b Quarkonium States in pp Collisions with the ATLAS Experiment

Download or read book Measurements of the X c and X b Quarkonium States in pp Collisions with the ATLAS Experiment written by Andrew Chisholm and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-14 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis, which won one of the six 2015 ATLAS Thesis Awards, concerns the study of the charmonium and bottomonium bound heavy quark bound states. The first section of the thesis describes the observation of a candidate for the chi_b(3P) bottomonium states. This represented the first observation of a new particle at the LHC and its existence was subsequently confirmed by D0 and LHCb experiments. The second part of the thesis presents measurements of the prompt and non-prompt production of the chi_c1 and chi_c2 charmonium states in proton-proton collisions. These measurements are compared to several theoretical predictions and can be used to inform the development of theoretical models of quarkonium production.

Book B physics Measurements at the Tevatron

Download or read book B physics Measurements at the Tevatron written by S. D'Auria and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present experimental results on b-hadron mass measurements and b-meson oscillations based on integrated luminosity of 250 to 450 pb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.98 TeV by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the TeVatron. The masses of b-hadrons have been measured precisely by the CDF collaboration in decays containing a J/{psi}. A blind search of the decay mode B{sub c} {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup +} resulted in a peak of 18.9 {+-} 5.4 candidates at a mass value of 6287.0 {+-} 4.5 {+-} 1.1 MeV/c{sup 2}. A new limit has been set to the decay B{sub d, s} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -}. Both the CDF and D0 collaborations are in the position to put a limit on the frequency of the B{sub s} oscillations. D0 reports {Delta}m{sub s}> 5.0 ps{sup -1}.

This book was released on 1999-11-15 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of heavy flavors is a very active area of research in experimental and theoretical high energy physics. A number of heavy flavor experiments at new or upgraded accelerators are just coming on line to address some of the most fundamental questions of particle physics, e.g. matter-anti-matter asymmetry (CP violation). The Seventh International Symposium on Heavy Flavor Physics focused primarily on the physics of bottom and charmed quarks, but there were also sessions on the top quark and the tau lepton. It presented a great opportunity to take stock of the field on the eve of the new era in heavy flavor physics which will be opened up by the next generation of experiments.

Book Review of Heavy Flavor Physics at the Tevatron

Download or read book Review of Heavy Flavor Physics at the Tevatron written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The D0 and CDF detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron have each accumulated more that 9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The corresponding large datasets enable the two experiments to perform unprecedented studies of heavy flavor hadron properties. We present recent D0 and CDF measurements, focusing on rare decays and CP violation in B-meson decays. Flavor Physics probes new phenomena by either searching for small deviations from the Standard Model (SM) based theoretical predictions or by measuring quantities which are highly suppressed within the SM. Searching for small deviations from the SM are performed using large strange, charm or bottom hadron samples, mostly by kaon experiments of B factories. Measurements of highly suppressed quantities, such as CP violation phases and asymmetries in the neutral B{sub s}-meson system or searches for rare B decays, are performed with the hope that new physics effects would be large enough to significantly affect the measured quantities and so, lead to observations of deviations from the SM expectations. The D0 and CDF detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron have each accumulated more that 9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The corresponding large datasets enable the two experiments to perform unprecedented studies of heavy flavor hadron properties. We present recent D0 and CDF measurements, focusing on rare decays and CP violation in B-meson decays.
