Book Guidelines for Ferry Transportation Services

Download or read book Guidelines for Ferry Transportation Services written by Anthony Bruzzone and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research is to investigate the state of ferry transit operations in North America and to develop practitioner guidance for the planning, marketing, operation, and management of ferry transportation systems. The research is intended to present a uniform understanding of the status of ferries as well as options for how to approach planning and operational activities. This guidebook is intended for use by operators large and small, in publicly or privately owned operations, for the development of ferry operations as a solution to a transportation need. This research was developed through literature searches of previous studies, reviews of existing government and state documents, telephone interviews with a broad selection of ferry operators, in depth case studies of eight ferry operators and ferry systems geographically dispersed across the North American continent, and peer review of the interim documents. The main body of this report contains the case studies and a guidebook. Two appendices provide additional information to support the work documented within the main body of the report. Appendix A provides a listing of literature review sources, and Appendix B documents the results of a survey of ferry operators that was developed and implemented in this research.

Book Strategic Management for Tourism Communities

Download or read book Strategic Management for Tourism Communities written by Peter E. Murphy and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2004-11-05 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tourism, with its wide-ranging impact, needs to be managed effectively – but how? This book advocates taking a business approach to tourism that encourages greater collaboration between stakeholders in the practical assessment of tourism options. The approach places key business management functions and stakeholders at the forefront of tourism initiatives. The business management functions of planning, organising, leadership and control are the filters through which tourism opportunities are viewed, while the stakeholder groups of customers, residents, industry and government set the agenda for appropriate tourism development. Tourist destinations must engage in realistic assessments of their abilities to meet the needs and expectations of tourism stakeholders and then act on these assessments so their goals and objectives can be achieved. A new model for bridging stakeholder gaps is presented as a template for how communities can understand and make the most of their tourism resources. The Bridging Tourism Gaps Model is a practical tool to help destinations focus on the important factors in developing and maintaining tourism as a beneficial and vital part of their communities. This book builds on the success of Tourism: A Community Approach and the subsequent tourism planning experiences of both authors to advance strategic planning in tourism.

Book Geography of British Columbia Third Edition

Download or read book Geography of British Columbia Third Edition written by Brett McGillivray and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is British Columbia unique within Canada? What forces have shaped its landscape and its people? To answer these questions, Brett McGillivray adopts primarily a thematic approach. He begins by giving a regional overview and introduction to geographic concepts and the physical processes that produced a spectacularly diverse landscape. He then tackles different themes, tracing the province's historical geography, offering detailed accounts of its economic geography, and discussing contemporary issues such as urbanization, economic development, and resource management. This fully revised edition is enhanced by updated figures, maps, and graphs and by new discussions of how globalization, climate change, and recession are influencing the province and its people.

Book Tales from the Back Bumper

Download or read book Tales from the Back Bumper written by Christopher Garrish and published by Heritage House Publishing Co. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Buckle up your seatbelt and prepare for a ride on the history highway! Christopher Garrish has collected hundreds of facts and photos (not to mention licence plates) in this astonishing assembly of motoring madness. Discover what the earliest motorists in the province used to build their own licence plates; why some licence plate numbers are worth waiting in line overnight for; which offensive acronym slipped under the radar and found its way onto a licence plate before authorities recalled it; and dozens of other entertaining anecdotes. Whether you’re a car connoisseur or a tailgating trucker, you’ll find that Tales from the Back Bumper is more than just an ABC-123 account of licence plates. This book is not only the definitive guide to everything from plate prefixes and decals to provincial slogans and vanity plates, but also a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at how cars—and by extension licence plates—have played a part in our exploration and navigation of “Beautiful British Columbia” for the past hundred years.
