Book B A L S Biological Artificial Life System

Download or read book B A L S Biological Artificial Life System written by Nathan Kyle Riggers and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life is not what it seems to be. With the B.A.L.S. Biological Artificial Life System, humanity has acquired the technology to simulate whatever life one chooses. When the whole of the species opts to live in a simulated fantasy world, no one expected that eventually, the lines between fantasy and reality would blur until they are indistinguishable. In the Almaican empire, Cog Heavenshire believes himself to be a ruler caught in a brutal war against the Horosh. When he is visited by a strange man named Zolin who claims they are living in a simulation, Cog doesn’t know what to believe. Yet when Zolin vanishes, people begin appearing in Cog’s world, materializing out of thin air. The technology keeping everyone in the simulation is failing, warping time and filling Cog’s world with inexplicable events. Determined to unravel the truth behind B.A.L.S. and find the mysterious Zolin, Cog and his allies are forced to fight a war on two fronts: one within their world, and one that transcends it.

Book Artificial Life Volume I

Download or read book Artificial Life Volume I written by Christopher G Langton and published by Westview Press. This book was released on 1989-01-21 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Life is the study of synthetic systems that exhibit behaviors characteristic of natural living systems. It complements the traditional biological sciences concerned with the analysis of living organisms by attempting to synthesize lifelike behaviors within computers and other artificial media. By extending the empirical foundation upon which biology is based beyond the carbon-chain life that has evolved on Earth, Artificial Life can contribute to theoretical biology by locating "life as we know it" within the larger picture of "life as it could be." This book - proceedings of the First Interdisciplinary Workshop on the Synthesis and Simulation of Living Systems - introduces the field of Artificial Life, reviews its biological roots, discusses its goals and methodological approaches, and gives examples of modeling technologies and their application to the simulation of specific biological phenomena. It draws comparisons with similar "bottom-up" approaches to the understanding of complex systems as studied in fields such as Physics, Computer Science, and Artificial Intelligence. The book also contains an extensive annotated bibliography of more than 500 citations of work relevant to the field of Artificial Life. -- from back cover.

Book excerpt: The vital need for alternative resources and reaction routes, environmentally friendly and economically feasible industrial chemical processes has become a ubiquitous reality. This very timely introductory text covers new materials, processes and industry sectors: nanotechnology, microreactors, membrane separations, hybrid processes, clean technologies, energy savings and safe production of energy, renewables and biotechnology. Some completely new processes for the solid-liquid systems are also discussed in detail, thus creating new opportunities of sustainable development not only in industrial practice.

Download or read book Artificial Life II written by Christopher G. Langton and published by Westview Press. This book was released on 2003-04-17 with total page 880 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial life is a new field of scientific inquiry that studies biology by attempting to synthesize such biological phenomena as life, evolution, and ecological dynamics within computers and other "artificial" media. In addition to uncovering new ways to study life as we know it, a life extends research to the larger domain of life as it could be, whatever it might be made of and wherever it might be found in the universe. This proceedings volume, based on the second artificial life workshop held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1990, reflects the evolution and horizons of this rich field of study, and builds on the proceedings of the seminal first workshop, held at Los Alamos in 1987 (also available from Addison Wesley). This compendium includes more than 30 papers spanning the spectrum of a-life research, from studies of the origin of life to models of complex systems.

Book Artificial Life

Download or read book Artificial Life written by Christopher G. Langton and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-13 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In September 1987, the first workshop on Artificial Life was held at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Jointly sponsored by the Center for Nonlinear Studies, the Santa Fe Institute, and Apple Computer Inc, the workshop brought together 160 computer scientists, biologists, physicists, anthropologists, and other assorted ""-ists,"" all of whom shared a common interest in the simulation and synthesis of living systems. During five intense days, we saw a wide variety of models of living systems, including mathematical models for the origin of life, self-reproducing automata, computer programs using the mechanisms of Darwinian evolution to produce co-adapted ecosystems, simulations of flocking birds and schooling fish, the growth and development of artificial plants, and much, much more The workshop itself grew out of my frustration with the fragmented nature of the literature on biological modeling and simulation. For years I had prowled around libraries, shifted through computer-search results, and haunted bookstores, trying to get an overview of a field which I sensed existed but which did not seem to have any coherence or unity. Instead, I literally kept stumbling over interesting work almost by accident, often published in obscure journals if published at all."
