This bilingual book with its beautiful original drawings is an ideal gift to share with your special little one(s). About the author: Darya Hodaei, PharmD, is the author of this book. She is fluent in Azerbaijani, Turkish, English and Farsi (Persian) and began writing short stories when she was 9 years old. Growing up, she was deprived from having education in her own mother language (Azerbaijani). However, later in life she self-studied and learned how to write and read in her own native language when she became the mother of two young children. She saw how important it was for children to learn their own mother language in order to avoid identity problem in the future, a challenging issue she had experienced first-hand. As an immigrant parent she strongly believes preserving one's rich ethnic culture especially mother language is a fundamental part of upbringing. To fulfill her commitment to this end, she decided to create "EnglishAzerbaijani" platform using visual aids and Azerbaijani and English equivalents to help children in bi-lingual and multi-lingual environments with their language development. Later, she decided to start publishing her stories for kids in English and Azerbaijani as a step towards encouraging parents and promoting the value of education in mother language. Download or read book Armenophobia in Azerbaijan written by Anzhela Elibegova and published by Aegitas. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 873 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of this book came after the presentation of Azeriсhild project which represented a systematized compilation of works by Azerbaijani authors intended for children audiences along with a series of examples of works created by children themselves, which gave a clear demonstration of the gap between the real situation in the Azerbaijani society about anything relating to Armenia and the declared tolerance for diversity of cultures and religions. Naturally enough, we tend to label this hatred as armenophobia often without full awareness of the pivotal role it plays in shaping the ethnic identity of Azerbaijanis; such hatred channeled against all that pertains to Armenia stands as the nemesis of their psychological model and fuels the juxtaposition of us vs. them which is fraught with repercussions for Azerbaijanis themselves. The large archive compiled by the authors of this book a) serves as a thesaurus for an analysis of ongoing processes in the Azerbaijani society and b) allows building a temporal perspective on three levels by covering the past history, current situation and expected ramifications of the armenophobic policy pursued at the state level in Azerbaijan.

Download or read book Imagining Sameness and Difference in Children s Literature written by Emer O'Sullivan and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates how cultural sameness and difference has been presented in a variety of forms and genres of children’s literature from Denmark, Germany, France, Russia, Britain, and the United States; ranging from English caricatures of the 1780s to dynamic representations of contemporary cosmopolitan childhood. The chapters address different models of presenting foreigners using examples from children’s educational prints, dramatic performances, travel narratives, comics, and picture books. Contributors illuminate the ways in which the texts negotiate the tensions between the Enlightenment ideal of internationalism and discrete national or ethnic identities cultivated since the Romantic era, providing examples of ethnocentric cultural perspectives and of cultural relativism, as well as instances where discussions of child reader agency indicate how they might participate eventually in a tolerant transnational community.
