Book Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers with Very Large Transverse Curvature

Download or read book Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers with Very Large Transverse Curvature written by Jay M. Solomon and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The compressible axisymmetric laminar boundary layer is considered for very large values of the transverse curvature parameter (roughly proportional to the ratio of the Mangler value of the boundary layer displacement thickness to the local cross-sectional radius of the body). Asymptotic expansions are constructed using the method of inner-outer expansions and verified by comparison with exact numerical similarity solutions. Both finite and hypersonic Mach number inviscid flow conditions are considered. The principal results are asymptotic formulas for skin friction, heat transfer, and boundary layer displacement thickness. Existing expansions, obtained by Wei, are found to be incorrect. The viscous pressure interaction near the vertex of a pointed axisymmetric body is treated within the framework of boundary layer theory and a tangent-cone approximation. (Author).

Book An Approximate Solution for Compressible Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers Including the Effects of Transverse Curvature

Download or read book An Approximate Solution for Compressible Axisymmetric Laminar Boundary Layers Including the Effects of Transverse Curvature written by Jay M. Solomon and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An approximate momentum integral solution for the compressible axisymmetrix laminar boundary layer when transverse curvature effects are important is presented. Both finite and infinite inviscid Mach numbers are considered. Detailed comparisons with exact asymptotic solutions are given. The method is found, in many instances, to agree to leading order with the exact solutions as the transverse curvature becomes very large--a property that none of the existing approximate solutions for compressible flow possess. Some example calculations for a cone in supersonic and hypersonic flow are presented. Also, the method is applied to the hypersonic self-induced pressure problem for a cone. (Author).

Book Propulsion Re Entry Physics

Download or read book Propulsion Re Entry Physics written by Michał Lunc and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Propulsion Re-Entry Physics deals with the physics of propulsion re-entry and covers topics ranging from inductive magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) propulsion systems to launch systems and orbiting maneuvering systems. Problems of re-entry aerodynamics are considered, along with interaction problems in hypersonic fluid dynamics. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a detailed account of the quasi-steady adiabatic vaporization and subsequent exothermic decomposition of a pure monopropellant spherical droplet in the absence of free and forced convection. The discussion then turns to results of calculations on MPD machines working in the intermittent and in the continuous mode; inductive plasma accelerators with electromagnetic standing waves; and spherical rocket motors for space and upper stage propulsion. Subsequent chapters focus on pulsed plasma satellite control systems; drag and stability of various Mars entry configurations; hypersonic laminar boundary layers around slender bodies; and effects of an entry probe gas envelope on experiments concerning planetary atmospheres. This book will appeal to students, practitioners, and research workers interested in propulsion re-entry and the accompanying physics.

Book Static Pressure on Sharp and Blunt Cones in Conical and Parallel Low density Flow

Download or read book Static Pressure on Sharp and Blunt Cones in Conical and Parallel Low density Flow written by Max Kinslow and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The static pressure distribution on sharp and blunt 10-deg half-angle cones was measured under rarefied conditions in both a uniform and a source flow field. Angle of attack of the cones was varied up to 10 deg. Pressure distributions are presented for cold-wall conditions at 18.0 = or

Book Global Stability Analysis of Shear Flows

Download or read book Global Stability Analysis of Shear Flows written by Rameshkumar Bhoraniya and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the fundamentals and advanced research on the global stability analysis of the shear flows. The contents investigate the results of global stability analysis for different configurations of internal and external shear flows. The topics covered are global stability analysis of converging-diverging channel flows, axisymmetric boundary layer developed on a circular cylinder, cone and inclined flat-plate boundary layer, and wall jets. It further explains the effect of divergence, convergence, transverse curvature, and pressure gradients on the global stability of the different configurations of shear flows. The book is a valuable reference for beginners, researchers, and professionals working in the field of aerodynamics and marine hydrodynamics.
