This collection contains 135 peer-reviewed technical papers that discuss new solutions to some of the most critical infrastructure issues involving pipelines. The U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure systems are continuing to deteriorate. The recent economic downturn has increased the gap between current and required levels of funding. These serious financial constraints highlight the urgent need for creative and innovative solutions to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure systems. From the technical perspective, cost effective materials, proper planning, new design methods, innovative construction technologies, and advanced condition assessment technologies must be more aggressively developed, tested, and introduced to the industry. From the management perspective, optimal use of financial resources, smart and carefully crafted decision making processes on maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement activities must be made available, applied by and used by water and wastewater infrastructure agencies.

Book Awwa C215 22 Extruded Polyolefin Coatings for Steel Pipe

Download or read book Awwa C215 22 Extruded Polyolefin Coatings for Steel Pipe written by Awwa and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This standard describes the materials, systems, and application requirements for shop-applied extruded polyolefin coatings for the exterior of steel water pipes. 1.1.1 Extrusion types. This standard describes the following three types of coating-system applications: Type A, crosshead-die extrusion, consists of an adhesive and an extruded polyolefin sheath. This system is limited to pipe diameters 1/2 in. through 36 in. (13 mm through 900 mm). Type B, side extrusion, consists of an extruded adhesive and an extruded polyolefin sheath. This system is limited to pipe diameters 2 in. (50 mm) and larger. Type C, side extrusion, consists of a liquid adhesive (primer) layer, extruded butyl rubber adhesive, and extruded polyolefin sheath. This system is limited to pipe diameters 2 in. (50 mm) and larger. 1.1.2 Maximum temperatures. AWWA steel pipe coating standards are written for, and are based on, the service temperature of potable water. Extruded polyolefin coatings have performed at higher temperatures. Consult the coating manufacturer for conditions and limitations. 1.1.3 Conditions not described in this standard. This section does not discuss the additional materials and procedures that may be required for difficult installation conditions, such as those encountered in the construction of submerged lines, casing pipe, river crossings, or lines that are in exceptionally rocky areas or where soil conditions are known to be severe. Under these conditions, additional layers of coating material or a cement-mortar overcoat should be considered along with specially prepared backfill or other methods or materials to protect the pipe and coating. The manufacturer should be consulted for specific recommendations when these conditions exist. 1.1.4 Other substrates. Consult the coating manufacturer when this standard is referenced for substrates other than carbon steel, as the surface preparation methods, application methods, and performance data listed in this standard may not be applicable. This standard or sections of this standard can be referenced in documents for purchasing and receiving steel water pipelines with extruded polyolefin coatings. This standard can be used as a guide for applying, inspecting, and testing extruded polyolefin coatings. The requirements of this standard apply when this document has been referenced and then only to extruded polyolefin coatings used for steel water pipelines.

Book Corrosion Control in the Oil and Gas Industry

Download or read book Corrosion Control in the Oil and Gas Industry written by Sankara Papavinasam and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 1020 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of corrosion in the oil industry leads to the failure of parts. This failure results in shutting down the plant to clean the facility. The annual cost of corrosion to the oil and gas industry in the United States alone is estimated at $27 billion (According to NACE International)-leading some to estimate the global annual cost to the oil and gas industry as exceeding $60 billion. In addition, corrosion commonly causes serious environmental problems, such as spills and releases. An essential resource for all those who are involved in the corrosion management of oil and gas infrastructure, Corrosion Control in the Oil and Gas Industry provides engineers and designers with the tools and methods to design and implement comprehensive corrosion-management programs for oil and gas infrastructures. The book addresses all segments of the industry, including production, transmission, storage, refining and distribution. Selects cost-effective methods to control corrosion Quantitatively measures and estimates corrosion rates Treats oil and gas infrastructures as systems in order to avoid the impacts that changes to one segment if a corrosion management program may have on others Provides a gateway to more than 1,000 industry best practices and international standards
