Book excerpt: It is well accepted that education needs to be equalised along gender lines. However, until the management of education is also gender sensitive, that content cannot expect to be effectively communicated. This is the premise of this groundbreaking book. It addresses gender issues and management practices in education, by critically examining both successes and failures drawn from a number of African countries. It proposes ways of improving the management of education to focus on women - who have hitherto been left out of the mainstream of educational and training practices. It throws a uniquely African light on an issue that goes to the heart of the process of democratisation. In order to empower the girl child in the new South Africa and in Africa, the patriarchal and parochial structures that exist within the African educational paradigm need to be broken down and replaced. This would address problems such as: why women are discouraged from certain fields of studies, like sciences; the effect that interactions in learning situations can have on the achievement and attainment of female students; and the critical necessity of educating and training girls in rural Africa. The book speaks to the heart of the administrative processes within the education framework and shows how the way classes are structured or materials selected needs to be adapted in order to correct the present imbalance. It was created and developed with the aim of seeking out the best education management practices, finding common analyses from these and using them to develop guidelines for future education management.

Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility written by John O. Okpara and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's global business environment it is no longer acceptable that a corporation does well simply by doing good. It is expected. With increasing pressures from stakeholders to improve the bottom line as well as to be good corporate citizens, business leaders face tough decisions. What social issues should we support? What initiatives should we develop that will do the most good for the company as well as the cause? Do we include social messages in our advertising, encourage our employees to volunteer, do we modify our business practices? How do we integrate a new initiative into current strategies? These and other challenges will continue to face future leaders. This book provides thoughtful answers to these important questions, and to many more. The book offers suggestions on how to choose among major worthy causes and also how to measure the amount of good achieved both for the recipients and the companies themselves. Of course, all is not only about challenges, there are loads of opportunities that go along with them but it’s only responsible and sustainable leaders who would be able to spot these opportunities. That is the future which awaits 21st century leaders.

Book Igwebuike Ontology an African Philosophy of Humanity Towards the Other

Download or read book Igwebuike Ontology an African Philosophy of Humanity Towards the Other written by Ejikemeuwa J. O. Ndubisi Ph.D and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of readings is designed to accomplish two tasks: to philosophize on Igwebuike and to honour Professor KANU, Ikechukwu Anthony, O.S.A. These two tasks or goals go hand in hand because Igwebuike is Professor Kanu’s philosophy. The book clearly demonstrates why Kanu deserves honour as an African philosopher who has introduced a way of doing African philosophy. It is an approach of doing philosophy that takes into account African ontology and cosmology. Igwebuike as a systematic African thought is exploratory in nature. It investigates issues with a view of seeing how they are related. Doing philosophy in this way takes into account not only the African context but the world as a complex entity with myriads of challenges. The myriads of challenges facing humanity have a representation in this book. For this reason the book is bound to have a global impact. In terms of philosophizing, this book demonstrates that Africa is confronted with many discourses. Discourses that are already going on but need a more systematic African philosophical approach. Some of the discourses are on the environment, governance, infrastructure, human and material resource among others. — Denis Odinga Okiya Maryknoll Insitute of African Studies, Nairobi, Kenya

Book Theory and Practice of Technology Based Music Instruction

Download or read book Theory and Practice of Technology Based Music Instruction written by Jay Dorfman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-28 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology is an increasingly popular part of music education in schools that attracts students to school music who might not otherwise be involved. In many teacher preparation programs, music technology is an afterthought that does not receive the same extensive treatment as do traditional areas of music teaching such as band, orchestra, choir, and general music. This book helps to establish a theoretical and practical foundation for how to teach students to use technology as the major means for developing their musicianship. Including discussions of lesson planning, lesson delivery, and assessment, readers will learn how to gain comfort in the music technology lab. Theory and Practice of Technology-Based Music Instruction also includes "profiles of practice" that dive into the experiences of real teachers in music technology classes, their struggles, their successes, and lessons we can learn from both. In this second edition, new profiles feature Teachers of Color who use technology extensively in their varied types of music teaching. This edition encourages readers to think about issues of inequity of social justice in music education technology and how teachers might begin to address those concerns. Also updated are sections about new standards that may guide music education technology practice, about distance and technology-enhanced learning during the global pandemic, and about ways to integrate technology in emerging contexts.
