Book Industrial Neuroscience in Aviation

Download or read book Industrial Neuroscience in Aviation written by Gianluca Borghini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the emerging field of industrial neuroscience, and reports on the authors’ cutting-edge findings in the evaluation of mental states, including mental workload, cognitive control and training of personnel involved either in the piloting of aircraft and helicopters, or in managing air traffic. It encompasses neuroimaging and cognitive psychology techniques and shows how they have been successfully applied in the evaluation of human performance and human-machine interactions, and to guarantee a proper level of safety in such operational contexts. With an introduction to the most relevant concepts of neuroscience, neurophysiological techniques, simulators and case studies in aviation environments, it is a must-have for both students and scientists in the field of aeronautic and biomedical engineering, as well as for various professionals in the aviation world. This is the first book to intensively apply neurosciences to the evaluation of human factors and mental states in aviation.

Book Aeromedical Psychology

Download or read book Aeromedical Psychology written by Carrie H. Kennedy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aeromedical psychology is that branch of psychology pertaining to the assessment, selection and evaluation of aviation personnel. This book, Aeromedical Psychology, is designed to provide the means for a variety of clinicians to carry out sound assessment and selection procedures, perform informed evaluations and make subsequent recommendations regarding flight status and treatment strategies geared to the aviation environment. To facilitate a dynamic understanding of the field, the book emphasizes an integration of applications and theory, case examples and research. The book is divided into three parts. The first presents assessment and selection procedures for aviation personnel (i.e. air traffic controllers, flight officers and pilots) and astronauts and the many ways in which both psychologists and psychiatrists are involved in these roles. In the second part, the waiver standards put forth by both the FAA and the various branches of the military are presented, as well as the waiver decision process. Clinical issues unique to aviation - notably fear of flying, motivation to fly and airsickness - are addressed, as well as possible courses of intervention, treatment and disposition. In the final part, more specialized issues pertaining to aeromedical psychology are dealt with, namely the psychopharmacological research and regulations applicable to recreational pilots and aviation personnel, managing the aftermath of aviation mishaps and the psychologist's role in accident investigations.

Book Aviation Neuropsychiatry

Download or read book Aviation Neuropsychiatry written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article examines mental health factors in aviation and was written for the operational flight surgeon. It is contained as a chapter in the most recent edition of The Flight Surgeon's Guide. The major goal of this publication is to augment flight surgeon's prior psychiatric training with specific aeromedical applications of mental health principles and practices. A few of the specific objectives include: Elucidating the use of the Adaptability Rating for Military Aviation, providing a general understanding of human factors in aviation, examining concepts regarding pilot personality, covering important concepts in Critical Incident Stress Management, examining aviators' typical motivations to fly, and teaching important principles of treatment for psychiatric emergencies in aviation-related situations.

Book Aviation Mental Health

Download or read book Aviation Mental Health written by Todd Hubbard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an authoritative and practical guide to the assessment, management, treatment and care of pilots and other professional groups within aviation; covering a range of relevant topics, for health and human resources practitioners working in the airline industry. Pilot mental health has, hitherto, been regarded as a specialist topic in aviation medicine. Consequently, practitioners and researchers alike have been forced to consult specialist journals or seek out a relevant chapter on this topic in a general textbook to develop or update their understanding of the relevant issues. This book seeks to remedy this situation by gathering together all of the relevant insights into a single authoritative source gathered from the leading specialists in the field. It aims to cover all of the main relevant issues including the assessment, care, management and treatment of mental health problems, as well as the prevention of mental health problems among this occupational group.

Book Improving Aviation Performance through Applying Engineering Psychology

Download or read book Improving Aviation Performance through Applying Engineering Psychology written by Michael A. Vidulich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aviation remains one of the most active and challenging domains for human factors and applied psychology. Since 1981, the biennial International Symposium on Aviation Psychology (ISAP) has convened for the purposes of (a) presenting the latest research on human performance problems and opportunities within aviation systems, (b) envisioning design solutions that best utilize human capabilities for creating safe and efficient aviation systems, and (c) the bringing together of scientists, research sponsors, and operators in an effort to bridge the gap between research and application. Based upon the potential impact of emerging trends, current debates, or enduring issues presented at the 19th ISAP, select authors were invited to expand on their work following the benefit of interactions at the symposium. The authors include leading scientists, prominent researchers, and aviation operators contributing to the discussion of the most pressing technical challenges and research priorities. Visions for the incorporation of new interface technologies within next-generation cockpits, tools for future air traffic control research, neuroergonomic findings in aviation settings, and human limitations affecting safety are offered. The aim of these volumes is to report the latest findings in aviation psychology and to suggest new directions for advancing the field. FEATURES Bridges the gap between aviation psychology research and real-world challenges Includes work of the distinguished researchers and seasoned practitioners with select contributions reflecting significant developments in aviation psychology Reports on the latest findings in aviation psychology and suggests new directions for advancing the field Contains work on perceptual and cognitive influences on performance, the impact of advanced modeling techniques, and the potential of neuroergonomics

Book Outline of Neuropsychiatry in Aviation Medicine II

Download or read book Outline of Neuropsychiatry in Aviation Medicine II written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual discusses issues in psychiatry and psychology unique to aerospace medicine including: psychiatric disease in the aviator, selection of aircrew and astronauts, fear of flying, and the personality of the successful aviator. This manual addresses issues not emphasized in the typical psychiatry or psychology text, specifically airsickness, combat stress, aircrew fatigue management, prisoner-of-war experiences, and sequelae of aviation mishaps (accidents). Other issues in psychiatry and psychology, which are not fundamentally different from those encountered in everyday civilian and military practice, are not addressed in detail here but are dealt with in many widely available textbooks.
