Book excerpt: In 2011, South Sudan became independent following a long war of liberation, that gradually became marked by looting, raids and massacres pitting ethnic communities against each other. In this remarkably comprehensive work, Edward Thomas provides a multi-layered examination of what is happening in the country today. Writing from the perspective of South Sudan's most mutinous hinterland, Jonglei state, the book explains how this area was at the heart of South Sudan's struggle. Drawing on hundreds of interviews and a broad range of sources, this book gives a sharply focused, fresh account of South Sudan's long, unfinished fight for liberation.

Download or read book God With Us and Without Us Volume One written by Imad N. Shehadeh and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revelation of the Trinity establishes that the relationship of the one true God with us springs from the relationship within himself, without us. The Trinity is not a problem to be solved, but a beauty to be discovered. Dr Imad N. Shehadeh uses careful exegetical and theological analysis to explore the presentation of the triune God in Scripture and expertly navigate the reader through the errors and pitfalls regarding the Trinity. This book explains the essential role that the perfect truth of a three-in-one God plays in being able to know God and be sure of his character. Dr Shehadeh doesn’t fear to tread on controversial ground but instead addresses key issues in theology, the study of God, such as the logic of the Trinity, and whether the God of the Bible is the same as the god of other religions. This first of two volumes, is a valuable contribution to the theological academy but also is an accessible guide for anyone to encounter the perfect, holy, triune, God.
Download or read book Armed Drones and Globalization in the Asymmetric War on Terror written by Fred Aja Agwu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a critical exploration of the war on terror from the prism of armed drones and globalization. It is particularly focused on the United States’ use of the drones, and the systemic dysfunctions that globalization has caused to international political economy and national security, creating backlash in which the desirability of globalization is not only increasingly questioned, but the resultant dissension about its desirability appears increasingly militating against the international consensus needed to fight the war on terror. To underline the controversial nature of the war on terror and the pragmatic weapon (armed drones) fashioned for its prosecution, some of the elements of this controversy have been interrogated in this book. They include, amongst others, the doubt over whether the war should have been declared in the first place because terrorist attacks hardly meet the United Nations’ casus belli – an armed attack. There are critics, as highlighted in this book, who believe that the war on terror is not an armed conflict properly so called, and, thus, remains only a law enforcement issue. The United States and all the states taking part in the war on terror are obligated to observe International Humanitarian Law (IHL). It is within this context of IHL that this book appraises the drone as a weapon of engagement, discussing such issues as personality and signature strikes as well as the implications of the deployment of spies as drone strikers rather than the Defence Department, the members of the U.S armed forces. This book will be of value to researchers, academics, policymakers, professionals, and students in the fields of security studies, terrorism, the law of armed conflict, international humanitarian law, and international politics.
Download or read book Pure Providence written by Aja James and published by Aja James. This book was released on 2022-04-17 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All my existence, I have loved one woman. But she was never meant to be mine. I loved her when she was the intended bride for another. I betrayed him too. I loved her after they married. I took what wasn’t mine. I paid my penance by dying in his stead. But it wasn’t enough to restore the Balance. When the Goddess gave me a chance to make things right, to serve as a soldier of the Pure Ones, I embraced that offer. Even though what I really wanted to do was stay dead and numb. Never to be reawakened in this world. Never to feel again. To yearn and desire and seethe with jealousy and despair at my own helplessness. The Goddess warned me at the moment of my death and rebirth not to want her again. For our paths would cross in the future, though I wouldn’t know the time and place. Nor would I recognize her physical incarnation. For she was never meant to be mine. Will never be mine. But the moment I realized who she was—the Pure Queen I’d been assigned to protect as the Paladin—the moment I recognized her soul, I Fell again. I wanted. I craved. I yearned. I seethed. I resisted. I pushed her away over and over again. Made her angry and confused. Made her hate me. But Goddess above! I cannot change how I feel. I cannot stop wanting her. Cannot stop loving her. All my existence, my body, heart and soul have belonged to one woman. Even though she can never be mine. I love her still. I love her forever. This is the beginning of the end of our story. Judge me if you dare.
