Download or read book Pourquoi Je Dois Mourir Comme J sus Et Louis Riel written by Jacques Prince and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book It s Good to Tell You written by Rosemary Hyde Thomas and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories told in this book, like the stories on television, illustrate the triumph of good over evil; the rewards of heroism and virtue; and the endurance of the human spirit when faced with tragedy and catastrophe. In addition, these fairy tales offer the thrills of exotic settings and of exciting adventures. They are spiced with humor, both focused and broad. Like other traditional stories, they provide an interesting mirror of cultural values that indicate western European influence. There is evidence that these tales and their direct ancestors have evolved from the ancient Sanskrit and Persian cultures to the European Middle Ages, from the Age of Enlightenment to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, wherever oral cultures had flourished. We held our first interviews in the summer of 1977, after we decided that we would offer that September a free class for anyone who wanted to learn or to relearn the Old Mines French dialect. The purpose of the interviews was to enable us to find material for these lessons. We sought out people who spoke French in the Old Mines area and conversed with them in French, as well as was possible.

Book excerpt: Newfoundland is well known for the strong traditions and folklore of its English-speaking inhabitants. Until recently, however, few outside this province realized that there is also a small but vigorous Francophone population, situated mainly on the west coast of the island in and around the Port au Port Peninsula. The culture and folklore, and particularly their storytelling traditions, are the focus of the work by noted folklorist and memorial university professor Gerald Thomas. Thomas has conducted extensive and exhaustive research on the Port au Port Peninsula for more than twenty years, focusing on, though not limited to, the music and story telling in Franco Newfoundland communities, through the study of the repertoire, context and lives on three people: Mrs. Blanche Ozone, Mrs. Angela Kerfont, and Emile Benoit.

Download or read book Ame Qui Survit written by Mary Ross Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soul Survivor explores the depths of human emotions, both real and imagined. That any I of us reach adulthood in one piece, emotionally or physically is a miracle of no small proportion. That any of us reach adulthood to contribute back to society and become highly respected in the community is truly a gift of time and place. Soul Survivor is a true story of fortitude, and iron will and looking to the future in the hope that tomorrow will be better than today. Soul Survivor is nothing less than a story of triumph. "Little Mary" Reese spent her childhood living, working and playing in a funeral home. Her mother, Mrs. Mary ("Big Mary") Reese, was well known and respected in the African-American community in Los Angeles through the operation of a prestigious black funeral home. Little Mary's story tells what really happens behind the embalming room doors- the light and dark side of life. Soul Survivor is both humorous and mischievous, and talks of sex, murder, voodoo, preachers and deviate gravediggers. Famous entertainers that passed through Little Mary's life include Redd Foxx, Lou Rawls, Sam Cooke, Billy Preston and Johnny Cochran. Little Mary was born in 1944 in the South, reared in the Southwest and was often disparagingly referred to as "high-yellow." During racial tensions of the '50s and '60s, Little Mary found her hue to be a major issue but not her only problem. Mary's mother caused her to endure life threatening situations due to her drinking and wild ways. Little Mary’s childhood experiences, the mental and physical abuse faced each day, led her to believe that her only true friends were the dead people in the funeral home. Indeed, Little Mary received a BS degree (Be Smart) at an early age. It was the only way she I knew to survive. Little Mary's story is and unlikely but revealing peek into the unexpected and in the end, truly a story of a Soul Survivor.
